did I miss something or did you just say offensive weight IS visible in the game? i assume you mean in some form other than the average of suggested target, or doing your own calculations. Can you see the offensive war weight directly in the game somehow.

back to the post, do you really think on average people with badges (mods and game specialists) have less knowledge than the average forumer? They usually are more correct than not. And even if you think specific ones tend to be wrong a lot, isnt that what the rep system is designed to identify? Who are the badged or no badged individuals with info we trust, knowledge we appreciate, and attitude that should be emulated?

Everyone's opinion is important and has merit to them. So we all should show that person some respect for voicing their opinion. Yes there are some who are hateful,rude or toxic but I've said before not everyone will agree 100% of the time. We all interpret things different. Because they are fresh or a wrinkled member shouldn't make their opinion have any less merit. Everyone here likes the game and is passionate about it or we wouldn't be here. So I believe if you don't like the topic you shouldn't down vote someone for it just don't read it. You feed a wild animal it keeps coming back for food same goes for rude, toxic members. If you feed into their madness they will keep doing it. Publicly shaming someone with reputation points won't stop it. Most people who are being rude, toxic due it because they know its making someone mad. Read in someone's reputation button they got a negative vote because they gave that person one. How is that going to fix anything?

The reputation system seems to be making a small difference in my opinion. It is hard to judge, but it does seem to be having a positive effect, at least to me. Whether it is enough of a benefit to be worth the extra time moderators have to put in to monitor it, I don't know. It does look like they are still struggling to make the votes anonymous as intended, though.

You should make it is the points can counteract the negative forum points we have. I got 2 warning and now I find myself never participating in discussions for fear of being banned. I haven't got a negative forum point in a year but they never expire so eventually everyone will be banned.

What negative forum points? What ban are you referencing?

the forums has become less toxic already, I think its fairly self evident. Flame wars gone already, people being more polite. Are we in danger of living in pleasantville where seldom a sincere word or feeling expressed? A little bit. Is it worth the toxicity drop? So far I think so. There are many reasons people on internet forums tend to be so less polite and often toxic and rude compared with real life, and yes one reason is its hard to punch someone thought he internet, another its easy to have no empathy when you dont look someone in the eyes, and of cours your semi annonomous on line, but part of the equasion is in real life if you go around sprouting toxicity and inaccuracy your rep suffers. Sure real life rep cannot be compared to forum rep, most people probably dont care that much, and some not at all, but it still is a concept that reduces toxicity and has value in real life, and so far seams to have some positive effect here.

he means infractions, they never expire so you never know how close you are to a ban. I dont agree however the systems should be linked, would allow very popular people to be very toxic. Let the mods deal with infractions and bans, and the forum users the rep.

I agree, well said. I think there still will be lively debate and yes that could result in people downvoting someone just because they disagree, but then there also should be some upvotes just because others agree. It should even out. The one thing that won't (hopefully won't) even out are downvotes for toxic or otherwise useless posts.

I think he means infractions.

Tallas, maybe a mod can confirm, but I believe it's 5 infractions to be banned from the forum. 3 is a temporary ban (a week or something). So you're not in that much danger of being banished permanently.

I don't know about rep points clearing infractions, but it would seem better if they expired eventually due to time or posts or something. You've been on the forum for 2 years, and if you got the infractions early on and haven't picked up any since, it doesn't really seem that helpful still leaving them hanging over you.

Here's a wrinkle I haven't seen discussed. I received my first rep vote yesterday (negative) by someone who was banned, I'm assuming shortly after he placed the vote. Possibly it was because he unjustly referred to me as a "Nazi" in his vote comment? Here's an idea - any negative votes by someone subsequently banned from the forums be automatically changed to gray.

As to the rep system, I'm not especially a fan. I'm a mod in another website forum and we have tried a reputation vote system in the past and decided it wasn't viable for us for many of the reasons already cited in this thread. A positive reputation is eventually recognized over time to those who regularly contribute useful posts and those who are overly negative just for the sake of arguing, get identified as such by the members. We mods are pretty good at heading toxic discussions off at the pass and banning those that don't get the message. (While not as large a membership pool as CoC, we have over 250K total members with about 20% who are active at any time).
