I think it'll be fine, though theree have been suggestions about this. It is not the same as infractions, and it works well by allowing others to show how they feel about your posts, whether they were helpful etc.
From my experience the majority of users are using it as intended. One of my demotions was by an OP asking for experience of early TH11 life, I gave him my experience and he clearly didn't like what he read. Another one was a revenge demotion with the individual in question trawling through my posting history to try and find a post to give negative rep to He settled on one from a couple of days ago. Irony is the individual in question created a thread and got all upset when someone revenge neg repped him
But we already had the forum police and wannabee mods. Those "wrong sub-forum" posts have been around forever - they haven't been created by the rep system. In fact, once people start downvoting them it might actually deter some of the more irritating forum police.
But infractions and downvotes are for very different things. To take a random example - those "wrong sub-forum" posts. If you think they are irritating and unhelpful, you can downvote them. Mods aren't going to ban people for doing that, as annoying as it can be!Quote:
We already have moderators who do an excellent job and sighting infractions if we bend the forum rules. That should in itself be enough. We just don't need to wake up and realize that we unjustly receive a demotion for our point of views or topics of discussion. We should enjoy writing posts hence the simple freedom of speech at its best.
You may have gotten a couple of fairly harsh downvotes, but usually, as in most voting systems, the majority view seems to be winning out.
It's forced my posts to be much less sarcastic than normal and that's probably not a bad thing.
If there is no downvote then what is the use of an upvote? If you could not downvote posts then eventually everyone, regardless of the content of their posts, would have bloated reputations. If you feel someone is wrongly down voting your reputation then they're violating forum rule #20 and you can report their actions for a mods review.
I had mixed thoughts on the reputation system when it was announced, but I'm starting to really enjoy it. If your posts are at least somewhat informative, respectful, and/or intelligent then your reputation will eventually rise. The downvotes will not stack up to the upvotes. Best of luck to you.
I dont take part, I read the comments left, but I do not give bad or good feedback
I get the point of it, but its a terrible idea in my eyes, so I choose not to take part
