Seems a bit of a stretch.

Most forum friendships are only that in the loosest terms (as Tomville pointed out in a previous post) and I'd very much doubt that a player would convince their clan mates to hop on to down vote a person as there is zero value in doing so, not to mention it being a violation of the rules and a bannable offense.

From what I've seen those that are witty helpful or make decent on topic posts get nice affirmations while those who are toxic rude or spam... well hopefully they'll learn & enjoy some of those same affirmations soon. So I'd say it generally seems to be working as intended.

I'm more worried about millions of people voting illegally and tainting the system. It happens more often then you think according to some people.

I've logged onto the desktop version of the forum (thought I would look at what Rep I have accumulated) and I see I got a negative Rep for my first post.

QED.

My thread was merged with this one... my post was a week ago commenting on how many times I see negative Rep being threatened as a sort of revenge thing.

You also got 3 or 4 upvotes on this thread, so I don't see a huge problem. It is a voting system. Even Jeremy Corbyn wins some votes, but the majority view does tend to win in the end

hi guys so we all are now familiar with the reputation system and most of us are using it in a productive way which will surely encourage and motivate forum members to come up with quality new posts, but from past few days so many threads complaining about revenge negative rep just because they disagreed to someone makes me feel that the negative rep button is not even needed in the forums, infact I have been active in many other forums and most in my knowledge dosent have a negative rep button but only a positive one and that system would work great here too.

The negative button could be replaced by the report button which we already have and if someone report a post then 1 rep point should be deducted from the persons profile and since reporting someone is a lil bit serious matter as it involves mods in matter and can backfire too, so people would not do it as often as they do now, and if a mod feels that report was correct or if a person gets infraction then a mod may cut more rep points as per his/her wish.

The negative reputation vote is not the same as an infraction. It is for something much less. Have you read the threads you referenced? Looked at the reputations of those complaining? You will find that people will get the occasional undeserved down vote that will be out numbered by up votes, unless they are regularly rude, then their down votes will be higher, which is the point of the system.

You might possibly get one here for creating a new thread when you could have instead posted in one of the several threads already on this subject. I don't think that is really the right use of the down vote though. I think that is what reports to moderators are for. They can merge the thread then to one of the others if they want. So, I won't be giving a down vote, even though I do get personally irritated by new threads started on a subject already being discussed on the same forum, even the same first page.
