Have I properly messed up...?

Now as a grown man, premature is not a word to be used lightly in connection with yourself, but I think it applies to me 😢
I've only just come across the forums, and discovered that a maxed out TH is not always a good thing (wish I knew that when I started!), I have a pretty bad feeling that I've screwed my game.
I've attached a pic of my base, could any of you be kind enough to let me know how deep I am in the poo? Is it unsaveable, or can I recover from my sprint to TH lvl 10?

Start on those wiz towers. Drop your cup level, put on a straw hat and start farming

Without knowing your troop level I would say you are not in a terrible place. Walls are going to be tough for you but I would worry more about trying to get your base to a TH8 or even TH7 max standard. While people are going to smash through your walls pretty easy you should be able to recover from this.

Building all of the buildings will be more beneficial to you at this point. Stick in there and pray on those TH8 that are also weak.

Umm.. also cancel your TH upgrade ASAP... At TH10 I would tell you to give up...

If it hasn't already completed I would cancel that TH upgrade ASAP! Recovering from this is going to be difficult but possible. At TH10 the difficulty sky rockets. So again, cancel if you can! In the picture, your town hall is upgrading, if it hasn't finished yet, you will be much better off canceling it. Get all your army camps to the max level, and try to always have something being upgraded in the lab. If you're willing to put any more money into the game, the fifth builder's hut is the best long term investment. Most important defenses are clan castle, inferno tower(if you're TH10), xbow, mortars/wiz towers, teslas, archer towers, cannons. Get your clan castle to at least level 4 and find a good clan, if the clan castle is placed correctly and has good troops inside it, it is by far the best defense(and it can be used on offense too). It's a shame that supercell doesn't make the loot penalty visible in game, but it's definitely possible to recover from a premature town hall.

Thanks guys, it's gonna be painful pressing that cancel button, but at least I'll have a couple o mill for upgrades. And will be a shame to abandon my [admittedly small with only a couple of donators] clan, even though I only ended up as leader coz I have the same name as the guy that created it, but guess its necessary.
Definately be doing research in the forums now I know this game is more complicated than it first appears!

Looking at your base this is the order I would approach it.


Cancel TH10 upgrade.
Find an active farming clan.
Build 2 xbows.
Farm with a focus on elixir.
Upgrade all your core tier 1 troops to max. Giants, Archers, Barbs, and wall breakers.
Max your army camps.
Max your Spell Lab.
Max your CC.
Upgrade your defensive buildings starting from the ones that cost the least.
Dump excess gold into your walls to get them all at pink.

I'm in the same boat: I raced to a level 9 town hall before I ever found the forum and read about loot penalties. The good news: It's not as hard to accumulate loot as some say. Even with TH9, I find plenty of 200-400k gold/elixir bases to raid in the 1300-1600 trophy range and can average close to one million of each resource in an hour with just a little luck. It's not ideal, but it certainly didn't ruin the game for me.
