Need Some Upgrading Advice TH 8.5ish

Hey guys,

So currently I am a th9 with:

All Tesla upgraded
All Air defenses upgraded
All Traps placed
All Walls placed and level 9/10
Both Air sweepers placed

Everything else is at th8 level.

Troops are maxed and heroes are 23AQ 20 BK

I'm the no 1 base in clan war for my clan and although it doesn't really make sense to have a 8.5 at the top we've done pretty well and gotten a 36 win streak. (We aren't a serious war clan so there's different th9 - th3 range)

It was working for awhile but recently the clam members have been upgrading there bases and thus our overall war weight has increased. I've been getting maxed th9 defences as my mirror which is fine because I have the troop levels to take it.

We've been lucky since our opponents haven't been that good and despite being th9, they've failed to 3 star my base so that's how we've gotten our win streak.

Anyway, so now I'm wondering if I should just drop my defenses and make it harder for them to three star me, or should I move to town hall 10 and go that route?

You've got the xbows. You haven't been 8.5 for quite sometime. Unless you plan on engineering this account no reason not to work on the other defenses at this point.

I would say drop your defenses, as your clan continues to upgrade their bases having an engineered account at the top of your roster will probably only hinder you. You could also just try to recruit someone with max th9 defenses to war above you and that could offset your engineered account to some extent.

My bad, I didn't mean xbows, I meant I placed air defenses haha. I don't have xbows yet!

why upgrade defenses any more until your opponents start consistently 3 starring your current defenses/base? When your current base is 3 starred in two consecutive wars or it becomes the norm, then add or upgrade another defensive item.

I say move to TH 10 to get the additional camp space and troop/spell levels.

I even went to TH 11 so that I could get the GW and get started on upgrading him too.

at least that is my current philosophy.

With heroes in the 20s you can (not necessarily will) but can 3 star max 9s. If it was me I'd plant the x-bows an max them out but if you are still winning wars you can keep working on the non x-bow defenses but any tile I see a 9 with no x-bows I assume one of our low TH9 can wreck it with LaLoon these days.

I agree I've 3 starred a bunch of th9s although the base designs weren't very good. But I think that my troops are strong enough to take a maxed th9 and if I fail it would be more that I failed and not that my heroes weren't high enough.

Just trying to decided whether to place xbows and upgrade all defenses or just jump straight to th10. Being the no 1 base makes me think added the defenses would be more logical.

I agree with this too. Also I guess I just don't understand the point of th8.5. I mean you are just forgoing xbows, its no where near the same as forgoing infernos or eagle. I just don't get why so many th8s and early th9s glorify xbows (well it's because they are the new defense at th9 but...), they are really just a high hp archer tower. Xbows don't seem to have near the weight that inferno or eagle does so the advantage is much more minimal than say a th9.5 without inferno. Especially if you are sitting at the top of your war roster. It makes zero sense to have a war base on the top of your roster that could be 3 starred by someone half way down the roster. Now maybe the rest of your roster makes you match with terrible attackers but by not having xbows you are setting yourself up for failure against any sort of decent clan if you are #1 on the war roster.

I am the only engineered base in my clan and our wars are generally slightly easier when I am our #1. My base weighs 74k. Our opponents top 2 bases will weigh between 80k-86k. I can 3 star bases weighing 84k and below.

When I am our #2 our wars are tougher. Our #1 weighs 82k and I weigh 74k at #2. Our opponents top two bases will weigh between 83k-89k.

My 9 has 21/25 heroes I expect to get 5 or 6 stars hitting max and near max 9s.
With Loons these days some form of LaLoon or GoLaLoon can take out most 9s, even maxed ones.
HPBH can can handle most 9s that can't be taken down by air.
GoBoLo also very strong.

Though if you are #1 you probably don't have access to CC bowlers.

When I fail it's usually operator error and not because of the troops themselves.
