Advanced attack and defence guide
My advice, for what it's worth. :D
Barbarian
Advantages are good solid hit points and good solid damage per second (DPS) and cheap to make. Thedisadvantage of this unit is it’s artificial intelligence (AI) is pretty basic– attack what is in front of you.
Attacking strategy
Deploy in waves from different points. Once there are no structures available to attack from a certain distance (I think it’s 15 tiles in either direction) they will start hacking at walls to get to the next one. With this in mind, I would make a 3 pronged attack, first to sweep around the left side of the town, followed very shortly by a second sweep around the other side. Once enough building have been razed, deploy third battalion (love this word) to start hacking at the walls to reach defences. As soon as you have other types of troops available, Barbs should be used as a “meat shield”, particularly for archers, balloons and wizards.
Defensive strategy
Simple, keep all defensive, resource storage and town hall structures behind walls, and upgrade these walls as high as you can. Make sure buildings arranged outside the walls are within striking distance of yourdefensive building, and that as much of your perimeter is covered by your mortar – when they start hacking at your walls becoming a still target, a good mortar will crush them all in 2/3 hits. Try to arrange your outer buildings to‘suck’ the Barbarians into a hot zone, where most of your defensive ranges combine.
Archer
Advantages are the ability to shoot over walls and target air. The disadvantages are low hit points (less than half that of the Barbarian), the lowest DPS of all troops (except the healer, who’s a pacifist!)and lastly they cost double that of a Barbarian/Goblin. AI is also pretty basic, nearest structure first, and then walls to get to the next one if it’s out of range – they are known to spend 30 seconds attacking a wall even though a hole was made nearby shortly after they started. Despite this, the “over the wall” advantage more than tips the scale, making them the most popular troopsin CoC.
Attacking strategy
Like the Barbarian, deploy in waves. The best strategy is tou se them in conjunction with Barbarians. Deploy one wave of Barbarians and thenstraight after a wave of Archers. The barbarians will absorb the hit points while attacking structure outside the wall – meanwhile the archers following behind will attack the structures the Barbarians cannot reach, i.e. defensivebuildings. For this kind of attack, use 30-40-% Barbarians to 60-70% Archers.
Defensive strategy
Archers are very hard to defend against. Take advantage of the larger range of your defence structures, keeping them far enough away from your outer walls but close enough to hit the archers. This is especiallyimportant for mortar(s), if you leave them too near your outer perimeter, archers will have it/them down in seconds. Try to arrange your outer buildings to ‘suck’ the Archers into a hot zone, where most of your defensive rangescombine.
Goblin
Advantages are great speed and double DPS to resource structures, and they cost the same as barbarians. AI is also more advanced; goblins are programmed (?) to go for resource structures first. Disadvantages are that their hit points are only slightly higher than the archer, and so very vulnerable to mortar attacks.
Attacking strategy
You have two options – Option 1 is maxing out on defence destroying troops, with a few goblins. You deploy your giants/balloons (more on them later), and once the defences are down, send in the goblins for a fast clean-up of resources. This works well early on in the game, but beware the clan castle – if they have archers in there, they will have your giants down in quick time. Option 2; use a handful as well as Barbarians and Archers, sendingt hem in later in the attack, once the outer perimeters have been broken. This is purely to get Resource storages destroyed quickly so your Barbarians and Archers can concentrate on the defence structures. For both options, use 15-20 goblins maximum.
Defensive strategy
Try to set up your Resource storages inside an inner perimeter, or inner walled area, along with your Mortar and Town hall. You will have them hammering at walls while you pick them off with your mortar(s). This is difficult to set up earlier in the game when your walls are restricted to 100, but remember you do not need to have 2/3 storages when a single one withhigher upgrade will do.
Giants
Advantages of the Giant are huge amounts of hit points – almost 7 times that of a Barbarian, 15 times that of an Archer. DPS is also high, 25% higher than the Barbarian’s, and AI is to go straight for defence structures. Disadvantages are that they take up 5 spaces in your Army camps and cost 25 times more than a Barbarian (based on lvl 3). They are also very slow movers.
Attacking strategy
This depends upon your opponents set up. If they have alarge walled perimeter with no inner walled areas, send in first. Select the fastest route to the mortar(s), and then send in Barbarians in 2 waves. OnceArcher towers, cannons and Wizard towers start shooting at the giants, target them with archers. Once you have a clear line to some resource storages, send in the goblins.
If your opponent has an inner walled area, with several different sections, send in Barbarians first, followed by Archers in 2 waves, much like before. Your Barbarians are your ‘meat shield’, because your giants need time to get through several walls. Once your second wave of Barbarians and Archers is under way, immediately deploy your giants, again aiming for the quickest route to the mortar(s). Once they start to engage the mortar, send in your goblins – they do two things here, destroy the resources they can get to, and break down walls to get to more of them so Giants can concentrate on attacking Defensive structures.
Defensive Strategy
Having your Town walled into different sections will slow down the giants. Because they are slow, the longer you keep them away from your mortar, and other defences, the better. One giant wall around your town is just one wall to get through. Even though they are stronger than Barbarians, there are less of them, and they will tend to move in a group ; you should use your bombs and spring traps around your defensive structures, as they will impact hugely. Lastly, max out your wall strengths!
