You've answered your own question... Valks! ;)

Assuming you're th9, I'd say it depends on the bases you face in war. Valks are the better upgrade if you face older or less thought-out bases, golems are better if you face newer meta bases.

Spend your dark on heros and max those goblins so you can steal more dark. Its a vicious circle :D
