Has been discussed ad nauseum. The issue is that it would make it harder to "engineer", but it would cause numerous other side effects. To name a few:
1. It would greatly encourage camping at certain th levels b/c you would be worthless in war unless you had a "max" base of that level.
2. It would cause enormous issues for casual rushers, who make up a significant majority of the coc population
3. There are numerous other solutions that could work nearly as well without the unintended consequences.
4. The devs have come out on record as saying that they want to discourage "lopsided" bases, but they've also said that this is a strategy game and they don't want to dictate to us how we should upgrade things on our bases. TH matching would exactly dictate upgrade progression.
First of all, wrong forum. Second, many people have suggested this. Third, I have a much better title.
HOW TO FIX ENGINEERING
Everybody needs to get good at attacking, that will fix the issue. When you see things like this, how can you fault people for skimping on seemingly needless extra defensive weight?

Nice visual explaining why some people engineer. Man, I'd sure love to run up against that clan that couldn't 3* that base... :)
Sometimes engineering gives clans a paper advantage in the war, but often it gives them a skill advantage by matching them up with clueless people who can't take out a base with lvl 1 walls. Some people would rather have mismatches all the time and/or play th8 and th9 forever. I understand that feeling, winning is fun and losing sucks, I just feel better about winning a war with relatively even odds.
Ideally, (one of my clans) as a semi engineered clan, we win 2 out of 3 wars mostly based on the fact that the other clan has bad attack skills. I'll take 2 wins out of 3, especially for a family+casual clan. Don't need huge win streaks.
lol totally agree. If everyone could attack good engineering would be dead. IMHO engineering is only useful to make up for bad attackers and/ or people who don't use their attacks. Otherwise there's no reason yo give your opponent an ez base.
so either engineer to to offset your clans weakness or boot the slackers in your clan. Either way end result will be similar.
100% what we see in my clan. We totally crush those clans with several lopsided bases, that we occasionally meet. It requires some detailed planning on who attacks who, but it's really worth the effort.
The real problem now is roster engineering. Putting one really strong base on top and balancing with several TH3 on the bottom... You have no chance to 3* that base and it will easily 3* your top two bases.
The problem is that when over half of your clan is engineered bases it drops your defensive weight, which in my clan's recent wars, we usually have 7 th9s, 8 th8s, 2 th7s. When we face an engineered clan their top 3 are high lvl th10s. Their engineered th10s have all maxed troops and high lvl heroes. Yes we can easily take out their engineered bases with our th8s and below but have issues with their top th10s. We do 2 star their top but any half decent th10 can 3 star a th9. The other clan sweeps our side and we fall short at the top on their side. No defenses on the bottom half of their side means they can stack their top.
