An open statement from a $500+ gem buyer
Every company is in the business of making money. Supercell is in a key position to take on Angry Birds, Zynga, the whole lot.
So it should be no surprise that they want the users (who buy gems) to pay more. Do not kid yourself. Game supply/demand algorithms are tweaked to see just how much the gamer will pay for gems and how much they won't. (Note to Supercell: Your math for diamond purchasing in Hay Day is off compared to Clash of Clans)
And guess what. I do NOT mind that they want us to pay more. Hell, if I could invest in them I would. They know what they have and I know what they have. They just need to fix it before something else catches the gamers attention. (Battle Nations isn't it-lucky for them)
The solution is EASY.
1. Loot (trophies, gold, elixir) should all be based on an algorithm that is based on MORE than just town hall and trophy level. It should be based on how much defense the user has currently and how many slots the offense has. There should be a +/- of roughly 20% which I would call the "skill factor". This would entice users to keep on building up their defenses and/or offenses. Because if there isn't this "skill factor" then defenders would be less inclined to build up their defenses. So, for example, if Joe Schmo has two level six cannons, two level 5 archers, etc...he should be paired up with an offense that is similar with the +/- 20% skill variable factored in. NOT just town hall and trophy level.
2. I, and others, found out very quickly that using trophy level to match people up was a big error. What happens if you don't care about trophy level and you are a lvl 50+ with a town hall 8 and maxed offense? That's right, you walk down that hill and proceed to procreate with all off the baby cows. So what did Supercell do? They created this artificial need for trophies. They have contests for the top three clans to divvy up less than $100 worth of gems. To me, a user who has purchased well over this much in gems I thought "big deal". I want to DESTROY towns. I want to be Godzilla on the beach kicking over sand castles. I don't care about this e-peen trophy rating that users in general chat are illusioned into thinking has value. Why? Because I saw the same clans winning each week. There was even this mysterious "third clan" that would pop up and win also. Those were just the second tier of a top clan manipulating the system. I laughed at that because they were getting praised for manipulating the system, but "trophy droppers" were being called cheaters...okay.
3. The people who are mad are a mix of people who have purchased gems and don't want to keep purchasing gems to keep their precious trophy level at a maximum. They've developed sub-communities where they are now part of an internet gang. They don't want to be booted out of the gang because they miss the trophy cut-off and get excommunicated to "noob-land". It is a "need" that Supercell is well aware of and a delicate one at that. Supercell needs to win them over somehow and not make the bloodletting so obvious. If you are going to bleed the consumer, next time use a smaller gauge needle.
That being stated. I'm still playing the game. I haven't contacted Apple to get a refund because I've gotten my fun out of this game and I can still step on sand castles. But, I won't be buying any gems until they get this all sorted out.

Matching is the only bug they should be working on right now!!1
the solution is simple. base all matches on current experience level. those that chose to use low level equipment and have high experience will pay will have to deal with the choices they make. they either need to upgrade (buy gems) or fight the battle as best they can. the game is about war not farming. if you are waiting for resources to be built up by mining resources, then it is no wonder that you keep getting looted to the last penny. you should think about playing hay-day and not COC. I think the game was balanced well enough before the last patch. It is not up to supercell to change the game so those that make poor choices will also win. someone has to lose and that is base on the choices you make. Make bad choice and you lose, learn, change and move on. It is kind of ridiculouse to think that supercell is changing the program to accomodate those that make bad choices while at the same time condemn those that make game winning choices. That seems a little counter productive. It seems a shame that such a greate game is crashing. I hope supercell is learning from this or they may find themselves in the same place.
