im in the same situation as you, except my gold and elixir is already maxed out, and i only have a lvl 1 barb king. you sound ready to move on, but im staying at TH7 just cuz i wanna max out.

Me, I maxed my BK and my minions before upping to TH 8. But I use mine a lot and I like em buff.
While it is true what others have said about DE being easier to get, you still need to use a builder to up your BK. At TH 8 there are a lot of projects for my builders and im glad I didn't have to spend time getting my BK caught up... SAme goes for troop upgrades...
Basically, do you want to be entering TH 8 having to play catch up?
As for drills, well I have a low opinion of them in terms of generating DE for upgrades...Its a slow drip...They might pay for a few minions but ...
If you need DE, raid for it.
But that's just me... If youre aching to get to TH 8, go for it...
