How to get Fair and Competitive Wars, and Avoid Engineered Clans

so rather than speculate with our best guesses, i tried to get some info from the horse's mouth

i messaged SC about exactly this - here's how it all went down *fade into flashback*

Thanks for reaching out to us. i'm always one step ahead to assis the dedicated player like you and our team never want to see our clasher unhappy.

It's really sad to hear that your clan is matched up with some higher level players. I know the hard work you put in to compete in the war. I would like to take this as an opportunity to explain how these unfair matches happen.
Every time our matchmaking system tries to match a fair battle. If many players are searching for war at the same time it's pretty difficult to find an exact match. In this case, our matchmaking system tries to match up with the nearest level opponent based on the attacking and defensive strengths.
I know how difficult to defend against the stronger players. Don't worry, Our team is continuously working to make changes in the match making system. The only thing I request from your side is to bear with us for little bit time.
Meanwhile, try to work on some strategies to defeat the higher level players. If you succeed against them you can share those to your clan mates so they can learn from you.
Your kind understands in this matter is highly appreciated. If you have anything else that you would want to share it with us, please don't hesitate to drop us a line.

first impression - i think this is a mostly human reply because of the numerous grammar mistakes (I copied it character for character) and the logic fail (if many players are searching for war at the same time it's more difficult?)

however a lot of it feels copy-and-pastey - the empty compliments, the play for sympathy, the closing - it's all boiler plate material.
anyhoo - i replied politely saying 'thanks for the reply, but you didn't answer my question. how can we avoid matching against these lopsided clans?'

what followed was 2 more messages from the SC rep with a lot of words, but no answer. in his final message he used the phrase "In finally, ..." which apparently meant 'i'm closing this ticket, adios'.

long story short - if there is a way to avoid sandbagging clans - we're not going to hear about it from the in-game support. if anything, it'll be buried in our collective speculation.

personally, i'm going to continue my voodoo rituals in the hopes that SC will give us fair play in CW. i'll let you know if it works outt

Hi Supercell, the only way I could think of how to stop having unfair war matches is by having a war base weight limitation in order to proceed with the next th upgrade. Meaning to say.. If ur war base weight doesnt meet the required minimum war base weight for ur th, then u cannot join the war. Like for instance, a th9 base must have a minimum war base weight of 69 before you can upgrade ur th to th10. I dont see any problem when it comes to prioritizing ur troops first before war base. It is a matter of choice of each individual players. Also a matter of accepting all the pros and cons of your choices. So, to sum it up, maxing ur troops before ur base is always an advantage to me and is always been my strategy as a player alone. Having said that there are lots of rushed th's nowadays, if you will take a look at what I am trying to proposed as a solution to this oncoming and never ending problem, I am pretty much sure that everyone will appreciate my concern and suggestion. I do feel it is so unfair to be honest. You have managed to fix the problem with banning xmod users, now is the time for fixing the unbalanced war matches. Thanks and more power. HellcaT #2JY20CCVY

I absolutely do not agree with this and I'm a dedicated maxer. 69k means you've all but maxed th9. Players shouldn't be required to near max each townhall before progressing. I've went through the th9 grind, needless to say, I wouldn't wish it on my enemy. It's extremely tiresome, long before you get to 69k.

My idea of 69 war base weight was just an example. Supercell can think of a better and more fair level of war base weight minimum requirement in order to proceed with upgrading to a higher townhall level.

SC have rejected restricting upgrade paths.

Does anyone, i mean anyone, honestly , i mean honestly, think that war mm can't, i mean cannot, decipher an engineered war clan vs a non engineered clan?


This whole entire mess is not because SC and dev team want lopsided wars. well actually it is. but its the man who signs the pay checks who says. "Do not fix it. "

Look im going out on a limb here but , i use to AD&D . I was A DM/ GM. Id spend hours/ days / weeks, making a campaign. 20 min into the session some genius completely foils the campaign with some witty "thing or action" . I'm left realling the afterthought of how i can continue the evening and keep the game on track without having to throw away all my work only to have it happen again next session.!

This is EXACTLY what is going on right now with war mm. People have outwitted your "system" SC. But your too damn stubborn to admit it. or fix it !

Everything ive done with my base/TH has beem wrong.
before, i rushed a little to TH 9
thats wrong Mike you should consider restarting. they said. now im near maxed minus heros and walls and one air blower one level. That's wrong also Mike Now you get matched to TH 10s because your Engineering your wars...

i put people in the war. match us. thats all i do. thats all i want . holy hell.

im gonna do the math on every god forsaken war. to see who has the advantages if i have to come up with a math system of my own.

This is sad SC. seriously. sad. all that money. and were still mad and your still sad. go figure.

That is why I would like SC to think about restricting TH upgrade option to its minimum war base weight requirement.
Like if you want to go for another TH upgrade, work hard to reach the minimum war weight requirement.
It's like achieving a GOAL by working hard on it not cheating hard on it to reach it.
It's a matter of discipline as well.
It seems like Clash of Clans is all about cheating nowadays.
As an example, you don't get your 1000 gems just like that when you achieved your War Hero.
You also did work hard for it.
It can be an added feature to unlock with FREE GEMS and extra XP.

By the way, speaking of XP which I feel that it doesn't do much in this game.. how I wish we can have a War Base Weight on our profile instead in the next upgrade.

As much as I despise engineers and the think that "I'm just smarter" I agree with you on this. I think restricting upgrading TH based on what you already have upgraded is nuts. But, I didn't see where they rejected it. They seemed to be saying it's not practical.

Engineering clans get stomped regularly, but I feel that it's not as big a deal because they know they tried their best and it just didn't work out. Thats why we don't see any nerf maxxer clan complaint threads. It may be the opposite for a non engineered clan or an out engineered clan that looses. If two people run a race, the looser can't accuse the winner of cheating because he trained harder/longer. The looser put in the amount of effort he deemed appropriate but came up short. Hence they way it is in clan wars currently.

All that being said, I think personal village engineering is fine as you are optimizing yourself for war to excel at something. Where we get into trouble is when those efforts can be expanded upon for a global effect which could result in an unwinnable war. But until the issue is fixed, there will be highly motivated people/clans that will put together the ultimate roster. Just be glad there are not a lot of highly motivated clans out there.

I think this is a good point. One large point of discussion is whether this is considered a true "strategy" game. I would guess all serious engineers would say yes. If you say yes, then x.5 to dless is part of a strategy designed to increase your advantage in wars. The same way, base design, attack strategy, etc. are a part of a clans overall strategy.

i do disagree that there are that many "unwinnable" wars. After a match is made there can be an on paper advantage, but that doesn't guarantee a win. I personally have not seen anything on either side that is unwinnable. Almost every war, one clan ends up with more hits on the top. Sometimes that is a result of better lower attacks. Sometimes engineering, sometimes both.
