First decent troop addition for a very long time. Really popular with my whole clan and would make a great permanent addition!
His slow down rate should increase every level imo, 10% slow down rate at level 1, 15% at level 2, 20% at level 3, 25% at level 4 and 30% at level 5
Just my thought, the slowdown rate seems like nothing right now, if they do plan on adding him full into the game ofc.
I have been getting serious with this troop all morning, here is my analogy.
As the smallest defense-targeting troop, it is very decent for it's mechanic. You absolutely cannot substitute this troop for wizards alone, as they will not retaliate against cc troops. They need other troops around to be an affective force, which is a balance I thought was absolutely necessary.
As for their freeze shards, it's very significant. I notice the firing speed of defenses are slowed by at least 35%-50% relatively speaking (Depending on TH level)
I had a little trouble with the event on my TH9 against maxed bases. 11 is not a good number with this troop, as this troop is not necessarily needed at all, and wizards can simply do a better job. This troop is just here, I don't need a reason to use this troop, which is the problem I have. I see the Ice Wizard as an excellent support unit, but for very few scenarios. Assistance in Queen Walks, when she's taking fire from one-too-many defenses. You may place one or two IW's down to slow down a few defenses.
For major teaser bases where 80% of defenses are defending one side, the Ice Wizard could do a great job.
I feel this troop as just another troop, because it has nearly the same value as a regular wizard, which is not what I want in any troop. If it had a larger housing space, and more of an 'oomf' in certain situations, I feel this unit would feel a little more special, and it just isn't. It's just another regular troop. I don't blame SC since they don't plan on keeping this troop around.
The Ice Wizard has absolutely no effect on Inferno towers, so don't get your hopes up. I'm disappointed with this, because this troop could have been more than just another troop, but I digress. If this troop is not permanent then SC would never add this mechanic.
Ice Wizards delay the Eagle Artillery substantially. I rushed the EA with most of the army and funneled a few Ice Wizards in. The Eagle Artillery wasn't able to get another set of 3 off, and I was happy getting a nice 83%.
As for the freeze trap, it doesn't make much sense that it still affects the Ice Wizard, but neither do inferno towers on lava hounds. SC could add simple little mechanics for troops that should have exceptions, but they just don't.
Overall, the Ice Wizard is 'okay'. At least C ranking. It's a decent troop with a small freeze utility, but not much else. Since it is available to everyone, I can expect this, but for permanent terms of speaking, I'm sure this could be a nice addition for TH8+, or maybe even TH7+. Plenty of people across all TH levels are having fun messing around and getting serious using this troop, and I think it may be a cool addition. No pun intended.
The main reason I see why SC wouldn't keep this is because of it's defensive capability as a clan castle troop. I think the best thing to do would be to increase the troop's housing space AND/OR have a poison spell negate the utility of the troop like how the poison spell negates the bonus of a Baby Dragon.
• I like this troop, but there is not much to bringing it for every raid, and there needs to be something like that if there is a chance of this having a stay in Clash of Clans.
• Increased housing space and DPS to better-balance the Ice Wizard as a clan castle troop.
• Levels associated across available TH levels to create incentiveable upgrade opportunities.
To the OP, your poll choices are insignificant. They suggest the troop is either very good, or very bad. There is no in-between.
That is my full analysis, let me know if you have any questions.
Very well said.
I have been playing around with him as well, and as you stated, my biggest disappointment so far is the inferno factor, was really really hoping he would have an effect on them, then it would have definitely made him worth while. Hopes are quashed for now, if he's made permanent I truly hope an adjustment will be made vs infernos, otherwise imo not worth even bringing him into the game.
