I'm not Nick obviously, but in some other forums, they have this time rule to (very mildly?) limit spam, and the 10 words rule to avoid people simply being like "this" or just responding with a smiley in order to up their post count. I suppose the time constraint also helps to avoid the 'just commenting to up my post count' thing.
^^^ditto^^^
^ As you can see above, we all know how to bypass the 10 character rule anyway. It really is annoying, especially for many of the forum games here.
And now I have to wait 30 seconds for this follow up reply...
10 chars
60 seconds is fine. Who's really in that much of a hurry to post? XD
If your trying to do a few different forum games it would be worth it, as they are often just one word replies.
For regular posting though 60 seconds is reasonable so I understand why it's there.
The 10 character rule though we constantly make a mockery of it, should be scrapped!
The only time I saw the 60 second restriction was when I deleted my original post and wanted to post again right after.
The 10 char rule is to avoid simple replies such as: "lol", "agreed", "wow", "nope", etc. to increase post counts as Elluna mentioned. I can see why this rule is in effect.
Do empty characters work to make up the 10 characters? I know of other forums where that is an option, so you just hit the space bar a few times and you've got your 10. :)
Edit - nope, doesn't seem to work here. Ignore this post. :p
They do however if you put them inbetween your text.
I use this often in forum counting games. Another way around it!
1 [hold space for several characters] 0
1 0
We have so many ways around the 10 character thing, I know it's purpose it to try stop one word replies....but we do them so often anyway and I don't think anyone ever has been warned or banned for it. Just scrap it forum gods.
Thank you Neen for the reply. I know the correct answer and was wondering if Google gave Cowslips the correct answer too.
I find it fascinating that Google pointed us to the Urban Dictionary. Some of us believe Supercell uses UD to compile a list of naughty words and then filter them out in the forums and game chat. :)
The counting game. Got a question about that. What's the point? How is waiting one hr to post a number fun? A gender wins then it starts over. Seems pointless.
Lynn? Wussy? Anyone? Please explain :)
I see. :)
This other forum I was at had a similar game. Count to 1000 then backwards. Post as much as u want. No conversations, no themes. Just count. Number after number. Never understood it.
Thx Daz.
10 chars :)
Yoohoo?!?! XD
Hi nick. I have lost my village and need help getting it back but keep getting directed to the in game support but nobody is responding to me. Can you please help?
We may all make a mockery of the restriction from time to time, myself included. But removing the restriction would likely increase the noise significantly. Or let me flip it around...
How many meaningful or thoughtful or informative posts do you think get abandoned because of the 10-character restriction? I would guess ZERO.
U don't use Twitter, Robin? Best up to date source of info on player news for fantasy football, ever :). Not to mention, instant reactions from the masses to current events. It's awesome!
But yea, wouldn't work here on this forum. Having a character limit on complaints would not be the best idea...or would it? Hmmmm...XD
Twitter may be the most up to date, but because it is limited to 140 characters it is easy to misinterpret what someone could have conveyed if they had more than 140 characters to say something. Plus up to date in this day and age of media doesn't necessarily equate to most accurate. Just because someone tweets something doesn't validate its authenticity.
The only reason I would ever tweet anything would be to use #idontcarewhatyouthink as a response to most of what is on there :)
True. There are a lot fake Twitter handles out there. Which is why I try to find and follow the most reliable ones with the most credible sources. 10 credible sources can't be all wrong. Believe it or not, 140 characters can convey a lot. Short, sweet and presice. These people usually do a few follow up tweets to really get their message across. There's no limit to that.
I'm a seasonal user of Twitter. Once football season is over, I hardly touch the app. Unless there's a major global news topic I wanna be in the loop with. Otherwise, #idontcaremuchforit :)
I love Twitter to get a quick pulse on what's going on. Not for credible news - but if Twitterland is agitating, I know to go check my legit sources.
Oh, and the hashtag games - sometimes for a quick laugh, I read those. Some people are very creative :-)
And of course, fantasy football...although this year, not so much as my teams have performed like the @eagles.
#SidetrackTheThread
Credible fantasy news :p
Twitter is the quickest source to find out whether my Adrian Peterson is out for the season with a possible ACL injury. Whether or not it's reliable depends on the source of the report.
But yea, getting a "quick pulse" is a great way to sum up Twitter. Instantaneous reactions to just about anything is always an interesting read :)
Missed playoffs by .28 pts. But that's #WayOffTopic.
Speaking of the Twitterverse, Hay Day has a Twitter account and posted the following tweet last week:
"Why not cheer up the Hay Day team with a real, physical postcard or some Hay Day art you have made?"
https://twitter.com/hayday/status/809020123507879936
I find the above ironic because Team Hay Day is using something so ephemeral as social media to solicit a physical response from us, which they can hold in their hands. Fascinating.
