Hi all,
I know that the answer is probably not a lot and I will just need to suck it up. Just need have a rant.
Nothing worse than new people joining our NH and the derby starts only for them to then drop out on the second day without completing any tasks - it's resulted in us getting demoted this week :(
Not a happy farmer at all.
Has anyone else had this experience?
Our neighborhood is set at "request to join" so people can't randomly come and go. Sorry you got demoted. :(
I've got nothing against people joining our NH - the more the merrier I say. But if opting into the derby have the decency to actually compete (we'd had the conversation around our NH and how we work before it started). Just disappointing really.
Does the "request to join" option allow you to have a conversation before accepting the person?

Unfortunately there's no way to communicate prior to accepting, but usually if some must request to join or be invited, it is more likely the are a more serious player. The other stories I have seen that are similar to yours, is usually where anyone can join.

I'd guess people are doing it just to obtain the achievement.
There used to be some neighborhoods who had Facebook and/or websites set up to list their rules which then anyone could read before requesting to join. That way you could communicate with those who ask to join. Or even have a "plse Kik" in the motto or something.
SC needs to create a penalty system for players who join NHs and leave in the middle of a derby and the penalty system should also apply to those NHs that kick players in the middle of a derby or before the winnings have been handed out. Maybe a joining fee should be used for joining a NH? I just booted a guy because he could not communicate in chat and I was worried he would mess up the teams derby.
I've seen this proposed before; and I don't agree. My NH goes over the rules with new members, allows opt outs anytime the player wants, and allows a derby screw up or two. Still, we get the occasional player who doesn't opt out, but consistently doesn't complete all 9 tasks as required/requested. Once (even twice, thrice maybe) --> ok. But when they say, 'no this time I will do it'; and they don't without reasons, why should we not kick them out early without a penalty. Having them in the hood and providing them with all the opportunities we do to just lose anyway, we have paid a penalty.Quote:

We keep our neighborhood Request to Join and only accept new members if the derby is already in progress. That gives us a few days to see how the new members play and interact with the established team. We can tell if they are helpful or simply there to advance their own farms.
We don't want to hurt anyone's feelings in the chat feed. We established a code word that signals it is time for a team vote on new members. The code word is announced in the chat feed and the yes/no majority wins. If yes, new member stays. If no, then they are kicked out.
I'm sorry you've been hurt by unfriendly neighborhoods like that. But it strikes me that the people likely are not unfriendly because of the way the derby system works, they're just unfriendly by nature and the derby system helps expose that. You're better off elsewhere, and be glad you found out sooner instead of later.Quote:
