Hello everyone,
Like you probably know, the fishing Christmas event is here. And I'd like to know, if i should use all my colors vouchers to craft lures? (not that I have a lot of vouchers). I have actually 100 red lures on the side. But I could craft colored lures faster.

Assuming 10 k per fish you have to catch about 36 fish. That can be done with green lures. You must catch max 1 not event fish to do this. (I hereby assume 360 k as goal).
You CAN do it with red lures, if you go to the swampy spot, you could catch the event fish even with red lures.
AND if you accept to fish more often (red lure on other spots give about 4k per fish, so more red lures)
Okay so I'm actually at 86Kg / 360Kg and I still have 100 red lures in Stock while others are preparing. So I guess I don't need to spend all my vouchers. I guess I was well prepared 😊😃
Well, the coloured vouchers give you the chance to actually catch event fish (except that one spot by the duck salon, there's a small chance you catch one with a red lure in that spot and that spot ONLY. for as far as I know). So while you may be able to do it with red lures only, the 10 kg/pounds+ event fish you can catch with coloured lures CONSIDERABLY speed things up. I've not managed to complete an event on red lures alone, though I am sure you could as I do plenty of Derby fishing tasks with red lures alone. also my tacklebox is 45 spaces cause my barn and silo are more important to me at the moment.
So... You just do what you want and what works for you. If you're saving up your vouchers for pets or decoration, stick to red lures with maybe the occasional coloured one if you care to. If you have nothing else to do with your vouchers, use them for fishing if you want!
It's a tough call when still collecting vouchers for pets how much to participate here. I had once hit the final goal with red lures. But I also stacked 100 of them, made more on the go and gave up sleep to get the job done.
You also can release your worm lures in the bottom right fishing spot, after you see that the circle generated for your red lure is NOT the small one for an event fish. This lure goes back into your tackle box to be used again as long as you release it before you complete catching the fish.
As others have said, that bottom right spot is the only spot where you can catch an event fish (Red-Tailed Catfish) on a red lure. You may have to drop and release a red lure 20 times or more before you get the small circle and the slow-moving ring, but it will eventually generate if you keep trying.
I have gone four times through my fishing area today, and have caught 4 Red-Tailed Catfish in that spot.
I dedicate 25 green and 5 blue vouchers to this event, and no more. I try and catch 10 event fish per cycle, but I usually average 8, and settled once for 5 fish caught with worm lures (4 nonevent fish). It can be done, with patience. :)
I also use a fish timer of 4 fields planted in indigo, cotton, pumpkins, and chile to let me know when the spots are ready to fish again.
I've caught 400lbs using colored lures (10+lbs per fish) and I never make gold lures
To answer the op's question, yes it is perfectly possible to just use red lures. Just think about it, the derby regularly includes tasks for 110lbs or so of fish. Nobody takes days to do this. And the final event goal is 360.
Search for some hints by Xyyzzz on how to identify the salmon which is the largest of the red lure fish. And then in the one spot where you can catch the red tailed catfish (event fish) with a red lure too you look for the slow moving outer circle. You should be able to fairly easily make the goal with just red lures. I used to all the time when I was saving for pets.
These days I use vouchers because there's no other use for them. After fishing four rounds I'm close to 600lbs.
