I feel like its not much use in defence. Does anyone find that bomb towers are useful. Or where do you place the bomb towers, what is your defence around the bomb tower. I heard people put giant double bombs in front of them.

Yes, upgrade them to max. They provide the highest splash damage in the game. Their best use is to force a heal around them so I don't recommend to have giant bombs nearby. A couple point defenses to punish troops who don't get healed. At th10 I have one each in range of an IT.
Why would you not upgrade it? Even if it only did 1 point damage, that is more damage than not upgrading it.
I believe prosper12 is considering the added war weight v. the damage they deliver currently. If you check the weight they are actually fairly heavy.Quote:

Like any upgrade they get better with each one. For example Lvl 1 xbows aren't all that great but by LvL 3 they make a difference.
Yes I was concerned about war weight. I am hearing they have more war weight than xbows, not sure.Quote:

Lvl 3-5 bomb towers add about 1.5x the weight of lvl 3-5 xbows so very weighty. But excell at damage to mass valk and bowler attacks.
So def an advantage for the current troop use trend.
For air based attacks, not so much. An Xbow can be set to air...
