In a word: Rosebot. Please see discussion in thread below. Thank you.

And to follow Lynn up, I would expect the paper to normalize once the free trial of the helpers end.
Just had to endure the excessive eggs for a little while longer.
The DD will be interesting after the free trial of the helpers stops, it'll give us an idea of how popular they are with non forumers
My DD isn't overrun with eggs. The red hats are creeping back in
Ahh, ok. I sort of ignored the 2 helpers as I could not see the point of them. I have my own routine in feeding & harvesting which works well for me & it is part of my game play, so I dont see the point of changing.
It seems to. E your dd has never been your dd. In almost 3 years playing I bought less than 10 things wirthwhile in dd. Now it is eggs, for me before was only wheat, soy hot dogs and red hats, I did some power dd once after 2 days of spy hot dogs I just got too bored. I never found ANYTHING but useless suff in dd
That's interesting. In all my years of playing, I spend most of my time in the DD. My trucks, boats, townies are all reliant on the DD. I hardly make my own products, hardly grow my own crops. So when the DD sucks, my game grinds to a complete halt. Interesting how we all play this game so differently...and this is just the paper we're talking about :)
Haystacker, I was thinking about you and your style of play when I opened the DD and saw the glut of eggs recently.
I'm still amazed when you shared the video last year of how you powershopped. If I didn't see your blazing thumbs flipping the pages of the DD, I would believe you were running a shopping bot. :)
I remember that video. Thank you for posting it, Haystacker. It was fun to see how fast your thumbs fly.
But I didn't see you actually snag anything great. Was it cotton that you bought.
If Haystacker's open to it, I hope he posts another video documenting some truly special finds - like lobsters or jelly beans.
Sorry, LTMP...I didn't have the time to document a 10 minute video of all the goodies I bought. Premiums aren't as easy as cotton to snatch up. It's hit or miss but well worth my time.
I'll try to post another video when I have time. I'm currently busy counting the days til Rose's trial ends...T-minus 2 days :)
No apology necessary. Just a suggestion/request.
A while back you posted that you could find anything you needed in the DD. That always stayed with me. Once in a while, I'll find something amazing, but it only happens to me every other month or so. Like, back in August, I bought seven blankets from the newspaper. And I haven't seen another blanket in a store visited via the DD since.
So, say you have a boat asking for pillows and apple jam arriving in four hours. Let's pretend you have none of either in stock, and you're not going to ask for help. Would you be able to find in the DD all the pillows and apple jam you'd need to fill those crates? About how long would you expect it to take to find, let's say: 4 pillows and 16 apple jam?
I'm curious about the potential power of the DD which I'm probably neglecting. If you answer, no need to provide video proof. :smirk: Your word is more than enough.
When I say I can find anything I want, it means premiums of all kinds will eventually show up if I'm persistent enough. It entails flipping through every ad in the DD, leaving no ad untouched and be as quick as possible. Refresh after refresh after refresh. The premiums I come across can be anything...I buy every premium that i see and most importantly, hoard. By hoarding those products for future use, I can fill any boat I want.
If u expect to find 4 pillows and 16 apple jams just because ur next boat needs it, I don't think u quite understand how the DD works. It certainly doesn't work that way. If u cruise slowly through DD and shop nonchalantly, the chances of finding anything worth while is slim to none.
Hope that somewhat answers ur question. I won't bore u with any video. The power of the DD is indeed great :)
Wow, Haystacker, that's an interesting approach to hayday. I think I might take a week (or more) and play this game Haystacker-style. Seems like fun!
Ooh, that could be a new challenge (like scorched earth). We could try out different people's playing styles just for s&g! As soon as I regain control of my farm that is...T-9hrs 39 minutes - not that I'm counting
:)
I was obsessed with expanding my barn very early on in this game. Wheating didn't do it for me. Back then, BEMs in the DD were a lot more frequent than it is now. I soon realized if I had picked up my shopping pace, I can probably grab some of those BEMs and expand a lot quicker. Not only was I able to expand the barn quickly that way, I was snatching up premiums along the way. The DD became my Tom. I only hired him once and never did again. The DD is my game, the cog that makes the wheel turn.
It's a different approach to HD...but one that's been working for me for a very long time :)
As long as the DD remains somewhat decent and nothing drastic affects it (maps), the helpers are basically useless to me. T-minus 1 day...
The Daily Cloche is back to normal!
I also heavily rely on the DD, particularly if boats require common products. I've definitely found though that the more you level up, the weaker the paper becomes. It's just pages of hats. I actually enjoyed the DD during the helpers week, found plenty of ingedients that actually have a use.
Ughh page after page of cloche hats, at least eggs are useful, missing the all egg paper already.
I was surprised at how quickly the egg and animal product ads disappeared. Given that we couldn't have all started the free trial at the same time, the paper changed extremely quickly. I still have a day to go before my free Rose is finished.
Maybe all the red red hats are a result of people using up the last of the wool.
I keep a crate of red hats at the back of my shop for Tom or Greg but never advertise it. Interestingly enough half the time someone buys it before Tom or Greg get to it.
I think in part they are also also a result of the double XP truck event going on right now. Lots of people want to keep the good stuff for the trucks.
I have another friend who is a super shopper too. Personally I don't have the patience for it anymore, I think I over did it!
I feel for Hay Stacker & others who use the DD as a huge part of their game, but on a personal level I've loved it being full of milk & bacon.
I often wonder if people who complain it's full of hats & wheat even know you can open the adverts to see what else is in the RSS or if they think it's only what's on the advert that's for sale? It's the ONLY thing I can think of when people complain that there's never anything else in it?!
Yeah Whenever i open it i see only eggs everywhere..............
The DD, when "normal", is somewhat diverse with a good chunk of wheat ads. Players are advertising all sorts of things. It may not be advertised premiums but it's not just one product overtaking the entire paper. Players are probably used to seeing a "normal" paper and when something like maps(the worst DD debacle, IMO) and eggs dominates every page of the paper, it changes the outlook of the DD. It makes it bland and boring...it throws players off. I click on all ads and was able to find a lot of goodies during the free trial, so it wasn't as bothersome for me but I can see how it may be tedious and frustrating for many. Crops like carrots and indigo were basically nonexistent, even behind those egg ads. The free trial ended for a lot of folks so the DD is now somewhat back to normal :)
I'm puzzled why you think we didn't all start the trial at the same time? Most players knew the update was coming. The time it got released at (particularly Apple) meant many downloaded at the same time. Many just started Rosie and Ernest at that time.
The DD definitely is representative of people who didn't renew the trial dumping or using the product. It is going in waves. As I explained in another post it is a battle for some to try and regain control of their barn. You're faced with the option of either just selling off the product the two helpers had in storage or figuring out a product to make to use it up. The result has been cream cakes, bacon and eggs, cloche hats, ice cream, etc. in abundant quantities.
I see. So, the way of the power-shopper is like a practice or discipline. It's about finding those buying opportunities and accumulating. You have to shop regularly to keep your stocks up. Just like how many players regularly refill production slots/grow crops on their farms to replenish their barns. Thanks for the scoop!
I will make the observation that flipping through ads on a phone is a bunch simpler than waiting for the pages to slowly turn when playing on a tablet. And the further back the pages are you've managed to get to, means seconds delays before you can even get to the unseen ads. I'd love to see you try to look at every ad on a tablet. I've never managed to get to more than 2/3rds of the ads before it refreshes whereas on a phone with scrolling the bar it is a lot easier.
How do you do that Haystacker. I only get 12 of 18 pages done. (i get 18 pages)... It was quite funny last week. Though it isn't funny at all to see : 10 tomatoes : someone else bough, 1 screw : someone else bought AND 10 goatfeed (someone else bought) right after eachother. Fun part is when you get 7 axes behind an advert of an egg :)
Pretty much :)
It doesn't matter how players replenish their barns...whether it's by producing, using Tom, or shopping. It's all well and good. I'm already in the DD hunting for BEMs anyways, stumbling on 5 jams while doing so is just an added bonus. Saves me 30 hrs of producing. Well worth my time and effort :)
The advantages of playing on an iPhone I guess. Easier to swipe the paper. I don't think anyone expects to find much behind a boring ad, but when there is a treasure trove of goodies just waiting to be bought and ur the first one there...that is the fun part for me :)
