Bring back upgrading dark elixir troops separately from regular troops

Upgrading troops separately gives the ability to better protect our dark elixir from being stolen while we're trying to save up for a big upgrade. I get that part of the game is stealing from each other to get ahead, but it makes it impossible to produce enough dark elixir to offset what is stolen.
I also know I can:
* put troops in queue to protect some elixir from being stolen
* buy more gems = more elixir
* put up shields for over a week and boost collectors = more gems (which equals more money).

Helpful comments are appreciated.

its all about timing, isn't it?
just make sure you have saved the Dark (or elixir) for when the previous upgrade of troops is done.

Well, yes to a degree. I just spent x amount of gems for 9 days worth of shields, 9 days of boosting all collectors and that enabled me to save 50,000 dark elixir for one major upgrade that takes 7 days. I'm doing the math and I'm not psyched about the cost-benefit ratio or the amount of time it takes to do just one upgrade.

For one, what town hall level are you?

Secondly, there was never a separate way to upgrade dark troops I believe

I'm at Town level 8 and you may be right about the dark elixir troop upgrade. It wasn't until 1 - 2 months ago I started upgrading dark troops, but I do remember being able to train them separately and thought the upgrade process was separate as well. Regardless, the whole upgrade process is maddening as far as length of time/cost to upgrade just one troop or spell at a time. It basically means you can't save up regular elixir at the same time to do upgrades without it being stolen, unless you have shields for several days.
As I'm composing this message I recognize that Supercell has a lot of support / infrastructure in place to keep this game going so I know they need to make some money to keep the lights on. Maybe a monthly subscription fee could be a solution; my password manager LastPass charges $12 a year for a premium membership. Most people are willing to pay a dollar a month for something they see value in...
A membership for people that are established in the game and want to keep it going without having to wait as long for upgrades. You could opt to pay $1 a month for the basic subscription and that would give people faster upgrade times or some other benefit. How much revenue could that bring in? Possible solutions to make everyone happy.
Hell, everytime I see one of those resource packs for $0.99, I buy it!

Well, for one it seems like you don't actually farm raid, you mostly depend on your buildings to bring resources and that's fairly inefficient compared to doing a few raids here and there.

As for your suggestion, that would actually ruin the game in its current state and cause supercell to lose a good portion of players, since most are younger individuals, it would be a pay to win game and no one would want that, at least for those that wouldn't want to pay no matter the price.
