Getting more matchups with clans that have th8's th9's with no defenses

Ok who else is starting to get these lopsided matchups where a clan has at least a couple maybe more th8's or th9's with strong troops and absolutely no walls or defense.
When this happens they usually have at least 2 extra th10's than us and maybe between 3-7 extra th9's making an impossible matchup.
is this smart strategy or is it creating an engineered clan design that is unfair.
I am asking for opinions? Is clash going to address this for war balancing or is this a common practice because the wars are not any fun to go through.

This is common now. 3 of our last 4 wars have been engineered clans. Only lost to 1 of them, which was last war.

They had a max th11 clear our th10s, 3 th10s to clear our th9s, then another th11 at very bottom of their th9s who didnt even need to attack.

If next update doesnt address this then im out. People who play the game, the way it was intended, can not play competitively anymore. I dont blame the players, like i would for xmod. I will blame supercell.

It is fair play. Why? because you are free to do the exact same thing. There is no rule against it. Until SC does something about it, it's fair game.

You won 3/4 times against engineered clans and yet you will quit if this issue is not "addressed"? Why?

Engineering is just an alternative gameplay, which doesn't guarantee anything by your own admission. If you faced a modded clan you will not win 3/4 times. Phasing out all the different styles and gameplays is what will kill the game. Only one "correct" way to play? That is when it's time to get out.

Lots of threads on this. Growing trend that is troubling (imo).

yeah we've been seeing a bunch lately too. Luckily most of them turn out to be terrible attackers so we are able to beat them most of the time. (except for a recent time when we also decided to be terrible attackers)

I don't mind them having extra attacks at the top as much as Im bothered by the defenseless accounts dragging total clan war weight down so we end up getting matched against a near max TH10 at the top vs our near max TH9. It gives them enough of an advantage that they can be terrible and still win.

It will only get worse if they don't change it. I spent nearly two years upgrading for a level base, offense and defense in harmony. I gave that up months ago.

My main base is 9.5 with max valks max wiz lv 2 bowlers and no new defenses. I will add a warden soon if there are no changes. My 2nd base is 8.5 no xbows and nearly maxed lab. I will be upgrading TH and adding bowlers soon if they don't disadvantage that strategy. I just upgraded my defenseless TH to 7 and will have drags soon.

Engineering is smart under the current rules. If you cant beat em join em. If they change the effective advantage I will easily adapt.

i hope they dont make engineering obsolete. mind you, im ok with a nerf but not a witch kill.

bored on my max 11 (going to change soon hehe) so i make an engineered base and am progressing a 8.5 given to me. plan to make two engineered fo them both

Will be interesting to see how SC addresses this. I think hyper / defenseless will get hit, but not the TH x.5.

It's going to be an interesting tightrope for SC to tread. Lopsided bases are killing the fun in wars for many people. But SC have let it go on so long, and there are so many around now that a witch-kill will cause outrage. And would be unfair. It's not just like nerfing 1 troop which takes 2-4 weeks to upgrade so that you have to use a different one. Building a new account takes months and months. People with lopsided accounts were playing entirely within the rules, and if SC render those accounts totally unplayable... that would seem very wrong.

Why would it be an outrage? Lets take an example: all things being equal, engineered Clan A used to have 6 extra TH10 attacks compared to a regular Clan B. If MM is changed to make it fairer, Clan A will now have the same # of Th10 attacks as Clan B.

He referenced a witch-kill... a nerf so strong as to make it completely useless, way beyond balanced. My point was that if SC don't balance it, but instead crush lopsided bases so that they will always lose it would be very unfair on people who spent months making them, entirely within the rules.

And actually making it balanced so everyone has an equal chance is going to be quite tough now that SC have encouraged so many people to make so many weird bases.

Growing because anyone who reads or tries to understand the game stopped making defenses, to keep up with everyone else not making defense.

5 builders lets you catch up quick once lab is finished. And doing wall in the meantime means you are not wasting the gold.

I should add: If they dont fix it, there is a good chance my 9.5 goes to TH 11 the next day.

I love it.. my "one canon, one AD and 4 tesla" TH10 base is about to get 240 troop space. I smash MOST TH9s from the air and as soon as Bowlers and miners are unlocked.. will be a super attacker. People always say that these owers are crappy attackers.. However, I have a TH10, TH9 and TH8 account with combined over 3000 war stars.. I can attack..

Fact is its part of the game, its fair and until SC changes it.. you better adapt and figure out how to beat it. Build better bases, anti-air and dragon settings, moat bases, teslas farms.. Stop Whining on Forums begging for changes because people aren't playing the game the way you do.. instead, get smart about it..

While I do find it ironic that that guy is talking about quitting b/c he only wont 3/4 against engineered clans, facing up with a really well engineered clan can be tiresome. Poorly engineered clans are the norm, and most of them are beatable, but as your win streak grows you're going to match up with opposing clans with better records or more of a base advantage over you, until eventually you run into an unwinnable matchup. Unwinnable matchups are the opposite of fun, and you have to sit around for 2 days waiting for the terrible match to expire before you get another chance at a fun war.

I disagree, Anoushka clearly stated a month ago that SC feels that lopsided bases are not the way that they want the game to be played and they're planning to change the MM to deal with them. Also, people complain constantly about how engineered bases are killing their enjoyment of the game. It's not unfair for them to make lopsided bases less-effective in my opinion, and in fact most of the players would welcome that change.

Just because something is POSSIBLE does not mean that it's ENCOURAGED. In fact, lopsided bases are discouraged currently by supercell, they're only changing the rules to deal with them b/c these bases (and whole clans for that matter) cause such consternation to their opponents.

This is on Supercell. They set the rules that some people are leveraging for an absurd advantage. To me this is DEFINITELY NOT how the game should be played, but the longer SC does nothing the worse it will get. Ultimately they will have to choose their customers because I don't want to play those kind of wars.

They are encouraged in that high-offence still carries a large advantage, and that's 6 or more months after the MM update that introduced the problem. And it's not like it's an issue that only came to light later - there were plenty of people on here predicting the rise of x.5 and defenceless before the update went live.

The balance between offence and defence in the matching is presumably server side only and something SC could have tweaked at any time without an update.

They've chosen to leave lopsided bases with a large advantage for 6 months+. It's true that a month or two ago they said they didn't like them and would rebalance. It's still going to cause a lot of upset if they go beyond balancing and, as the poster above put it, "witch-kill" them.

i dont think they will witch kill them.

i suspect a moderate nerf and maybe in the future it will get heavier but by then people will have gotten the clue and dropped defenses

Unfortunately – because I hate it – it is good strategy unless Super Cell does something about it. My thoughts are:

1. SC's only apparent reason for allowing it is to suck gems out of the engineered clans (it can't be cheap to build a TH10 or TH11 with no defences to match up against TH6's and TH7's in war). If SC had any desire it wouldn't be hard to fix by adjusting war weighting in numerous ways that have already been discussed in the forums.

2. Engineered clans will spread like a cancer until SC addresses it because the only way I can see to beat them is to create your own 'lop-sided' accounts. And more and more clans will be rushing their own lop-sided bases to higher and higher levels.

3. I dislike it because the goal is to neutralize skill and effort. There is no skill beating a TH9 with a span bowler attack. In our most recent war their #22 (in a 25 war) destroyed our #2 with a one finger bowler drop (after CC troops were eliminated). Yay!! That was exciting. Yes our #2 base was vulnerable to a bowler attack, but most TH9's aren't planning to defend mass bowlers.

4. It totally changes the type of skill involved. Up until recently skill meant making good upgrade decisions, and developing good base designs. Now skill just means finding the right mix of defenceless and engineered bases to create a mismatch. Again yay!!!

5. What really bugs me is Super Cell doesn't say anything about the future of the game (which led me to point 1). I'd kind of like to know if the future of this game is just spamming engineered accounts I'd stop buying gems and move on. I guess the smart thing is to stop buying gems and wait to see if anything happens.

Agreed. This is totally on supercell because they are allowing the rules to be exploited (which IS NOT cheating) when a simple war weight fix would keep the playing field level. I'm not against engineering to some extent, but it is going to extremes and it will only get worse because it is the smartest way to play.

I get that building a new base takes months, but wouldn't the lop-sided accounts just have to start upgrading defences? They must have tons of extra gold with nowhere to spend it since defences and walls don't get upgraded.

Also a good point that SC is compounding the problem by saying nothing, and that the longer they sit on their hands the worse the change will be.

That's likely when they will fix it. I just wish they would be clear about their plans and don't get why they can't make a quick, simple war weight tweak. Not really hard.

Johnny is right with this quote. I have played the game since Feb 2014 and only joined the these forum boards this month for the very reason of engineered bases killing the game. I know people carry on (and Supercell staff say it themselves) saying people have the right to do with their base as they want but it is KILLING Clan Wars.
