Daily Dirt - What Happened?

Several on my team (including me) are now in the low 40s (levelwise). During the last derby we all noticed that the Daily Dirt wasn't that much fun anymore. It was filled with far too much wheat and not any near as many finished goods as it was during previous derbies.

Is this typical? Is it because as we rise in level the Daily Dirt become less useful? If so...bummer. This is such a fun part of the game having it become so annoying and irrelevant takes some of the fun out of playing. So, I hope this isn't a permanent thing and I will be able to go back to enjoying it. If this is typical I hope the algorithm gets tweaked.

I'm also in the low 40s at the moment. I've too been seeing lots of items such as wheat and tomatoes. Though, I'm not 100% sure that it's because of our level.

It's probably a coincidence, or lots of people deciding to wheat and get items. Since you unlock more items as you level up, something definitely changes about the DD, but I'm not sure if anything in particular is causing what you're seeing

Sometimes when the newspaper gets to wheat-infested, the Team tweaks something and it improves for a little while... sometimes the best treasures found are in the least tempting shops. Check them out!

Items in the DD can be influenced by events. When there is a truck event many farmers run low on produced items, so are less likely to advertise them. Things will be back to normal soon after the event ends.

It's a reflection of supply and demand.

Most players have surplus wheat, eggs, indigo etc so that is what floods the paper.

As stated above consumption events; trucks especially like the current one put a much higher demand on the good foods.

Daily Dirt shopping is typically most difficult during Truck, and also the rare one day Visitor events.

I don't think it's related to your level as such. It seems to go in cycles for me - I sometimes get "bad" DDs where the majority of ads are for wheat or indigo, and then after a day or two, things improve and it's more balanced again.

Agreed - I think the truck event has impacted the paper the last few days. It should be back to normal in 1 day when the event is over.

I'm amazed that you've got into the 40s and never seen a wheat filled DD before!

I noticed, though I could be wrong, that if you sell good stuff regularly in your RSS you somehow get rewarded with a better DD (more varied and more likely to find tools). There are days when I only sell wheat and the DD is boring, all I can see is wheat, strawberries and cloche hats. As soon as I start selling produced goods the DD seems to improve. Has anybody else notice this??

Interesting theory. I know after I cleared out the barn to gain coins for machines I needed, aftwrwards, noticed more of the "good stuff" (tools & hard to find products) in the DD

I noticed this too and this happened exactly the time the double gold truck event started.

Funny story - the day you want bloody Chilli popcorn, no one was selling them! And any chance I would get to see, it would be sold!

There was a 1k gold order which included a single Wooly chap...took me an hour to find one ♥♥♥♥

During normal period without any events there would be 10s of Wooly chaps around haha :p

The daily dirt is totally manipulated. Though not confirmed by anyone from supercell the DD algorithm purposefully shorts the paper from items you have none of.

At my level wheat, eggs, tofu dogs, and indigo flood the paper. If I'm out of any one of those there will be little to none advertised in the DD. Eggs for example are always in my paper but if I run completely out I can go five or more papers before offered again. As soon as I'm stocked back up eggs again are numerous.

I tried a little experiment one time. I purposely sold all the items listed above and couldn't believe how much more variety was listed in the DD. There was a few wheats, a couple of tofu dogs but no indigo or eggs. Of coarse as I suspected the DD went back to normal at soon as I stocked back these items. This wasn't a fluke, the paper has always been this way, at least as long as I've been playing.

Why is the DD like this? Money of coarse. Spend diamonds, buy more diamonds, ultimately about the money and I guess that's ok, supercell has to make the cash or this game dissappears.

People complain about the DD much less than they used to. I infer from that people are generally happier with it than they used to be. I know I am. Anybody remember the endless whining about it being full of blue sweaters and red scarves? :unsure:

Would I prefer that it showed ads exclusively for blankets, panels, and tape? Maybe for a day. Then the novelty would wear off, the challenge would be gone, and so to the fun.

Don't forget that events usually increase demand for items, so that impacts the DD. More people looking for good stuff means less good stuff to go around.

I don't believe in a conspiracy... it is just Murphy's Law when you don't find what you need. Search the paper the right way, often and with vigour and you can find many great things.

We only see 50+ listings out of thousands listed, certainly there is an algorithm that chooses the ones we get. Supercell is very good at what it does, making good games and making money. There's no conspiracy as you put it, it a good money maker move on their part. Your entitled to your own opinion but I've been playing this game for a while and I know what I know.

I don't believe it's a conspiracy either. Sometimes I need to go thru 4 or 5 DD to find what I need. Sometimes it's on the first page of first DD I open. Murphys Law is exactly right.

I couldn't find a single egg yesterday!

I have no doubt that there is an algorithm for the DD that involves you not seeing what you need. What ever I run out of crop wise (except wheat) I can never source it via the DD. I run of carrots once and after searching every single advert in lots of papers I found not a single carrot! I mean seriously.....a whole day with no carrots. What ever my boat needs is guaranteed to be unavailable via the DD but in plentiful supply any other day. Its so obviously designed to encourage diamond use......fair play SC but you can be certain this girl won't be ever running out of carrots again!

I just had a boat load of indigo... do you think I could find any???

I spend 90% of my gameplay in the DD hunting for things. The DD is basically my game. I shop like a mad man and I must say, I'm pretty good at it. That being said, there's no DD conspiracy.

The DD has some kind of algorithm but it's not as complex and sophisticated as some might think. It's just random like everything else in this game. U really think the DD is sophisticated enough to know what a player has the least of in his/her barn or what he/she needs for the boat and hide those items from each specific player? I highly doubt the DD is tailor-made that way. Players can't find something because they need it on the spot, they want it now and they want it quick...so they come up with a theory for why it's not showing up. It's all psychological.

I learned very early on, slowly flipping through the pages of the DD will rarely get u anything. And it's essential to click on every single ad. Everything I do...finding things for boats, trucks, townies, BEMs to upgrade my barn is all reliant on the DD. The double coin/xp truck event and little visitors event dries up the DD, which makes those events my least favorite.

Yeah, no conspiracy. I think a good way to test this is to pick a random product that you think is in every DD and go looking. Like carrots. I think you'd be surprised that it's actually not there always. You just think it is because you see it often when you don't need it.

I have to say I find looking in the DD tedious. Endlessly looking for things that you might never find. So much time spent and maybe a few nice things found. I think it's much more fun to make things myself and it's kind of the point of the game for me. But of course I'm glad it's there for those who like it.

I never harvest eggs at all , I buy them all in the DD as needed. This from a tip I read on the forum. So I should not be able to find any

Your point? I never harvest eggs either, buy them in the paper. If I have eggs whether it be many or a few then they are generally plentiful in the paper. If I'm completely out they dissappear. Same with indigo.

This happens a few times I'd chalk it up to coincidence, but almost every time? Pattern, purposeful pattern. And no its not as something as simple as some mental perception just because it's not there when I'm completely out.

I didn't intend for this to go this far but the truth has to come out once and for all. The issue with the daily dirt is a vast conspiracy which I believe has been perpetrated by those directly involved with the Kennedy assassination to create a new world order. Those conspiritors with the help of aliens have plotted to bring our society to a grinding halt via the daily dirt. What they didn't count on is the determination of the Greg led resistance to expose and halt this insidious plan. Can't say to much more at this time as they are watching! I have no fear though, I have my protection, my trusty tin hat. I'm protected, are you???

Uhmmm... this belongs in "Last post wins" in games sub forum, I think?

People always forget the DD will only show you items the ad has been flagged for that you can buy at your level. That means lower level players see a different DD than those at higher levels. For example at low levels seeing dairy and EMS isn't uncommon. But you're simply not going to see those at high levels on a frequent basis. And those items won't show for the high levels because of the need to fill the DD for the lower level players. Thus you see indigo, wheat, tofu dogs, red hats, etc as a rule of thumb rather than different items. At lower levels it is easily seen that this is the case. As soon as you can start making a new product, the DD is filled with that product. But behind that indigo there is usually a whole bunch of goodies...

Like others have said I don't believe there is any fancy algorithm to purposefully withhold something you need at the time. Who would invest that much time coding something that just frustrates players anyway?

It's just when you really need something, you probably overrate how available that item really is. For example, I often see Bacon & Eggs in the paper. But certainly not every time I open the paper.

Should a Bacon & Eggs order come in and I'm short; I'll go straight to the paper. But have to remind myself while it's somewhat common. It's not as oversupplied as Wheat or Eggs. It may take a number of papers to find some.

And I'll re-iterate this topic popped up during the Truck event. Truck events are the worst for the paper, almost everyone as a result is selling less in their RSS and buying more from the paper. Obviously that makes shopping more difficult than usual.

I had nothing better to do... I had no indigo, no eggs and went hunting for probably 2 hours. The DD was still full of both.
