Seeking Barn Upgrade Tips

Hi, ya'll. I'm currently a level 73 player with a barn capacity of 1500. I am always trying to upgrade barn (NEVER enough room!!). It seems to be getting more and more difficult for me to hold all the tools needed to upgrade - especially during the derby. I'm the leader of a champ league team and I really, really don't want to opt-out in order to upgrade. Although my team members are almost entirely self-sufficient, I also always try to have extra goods on hand for them, too. How do you higher level players (or those with bigger barns) handle upgrading? Any tips or strategies for me would be greatly appreciated!

The good news here is as you get bigger than 1000 it gets easier, in terms of the % of number of items you need to hold to upgrade compared to the space available. That said, it's never easy!

One tip would be to fix your priority, and not try to upgrade all of barn, silo, town and land at the same time. Another would be to be ruthless in what you keep in the barn when struggling for space - if you are trying to upgrade then it's best not to keep more than 1 of any barn item you can find in the Daily Dirt in a short space of time. If you haven't upgraded the slots on various machines that use barn products then that's a good thing to do too, think of it as free storage.

Another possible way to manage barn space is when you get to the point where you need just one more of one type of expansion item (let's say tape, for example) spend 8 diamonds for that one roll of tape. When you do that all of the tape you need to expand is 'banked', thereby creating space.

You can then go on collecting the other expansion items you need, (and can do the same again with the next one if you wish).

I appreciate that this uses diamonds, which may not suit everyone, but it might help when space is tight.

As stated above, prioritize. Don't try to save silo parts when saving to expand barn. Keep small amounts of eggs, corn bread, wooly chaps pink dresses and other items easy to find in DD. Dump town upgrade items ifor space gets tight. Don't worry about neighbors if they are self sufficient - I don't expect my leader to carry extra items for me. The whole nh helps each other, don't try to carry extra weight for others, unless for limited time only.

Wheating and producing lots of eggs really helps. There is a cycle of expansion part drops for animal products and another cycle for crops. You can use both to your advantage. Also skimming the paper for parts is really useful. Swipe as fast as you can and glimpse at all the icons, and if you go fast enough, you can go back and get things that looked good.

I do it differently: I budget my barn allocation to hold a full set of upgrade tools for barn and silo. Which means 663 BEM+SEM right now. Do I have that much space? No, but I consider things cutting into that space to be overstocked items: I'm just temporarily overstocked on dairy, sugar, bread, and shovels right now.

I don't ever consider myself to be taking time off from upgrading, and I don't alternate between barn and silo. However, I do sell off any BEM or SEM that I have too much of, I don't ask neighbors for tools (but will buy if they offer). Which means I regularly supply Screws and Planks to my neighbors and upgrade only as fast as my slow items (Panels and Tape).

But by thinking of it as needing to have all that space set aside for tools I don't need to stress about the space, I take my time on upgrades, and basically relax. It works well, because in spite of not being in a hurry I somehow manage to upgrade more frequently than most. Maybe it's all the townies giving tools. :)

Let me put it a different way: most people think that an upgrade expands the barn by 50. I don't. It expands the barn by 44. The other 6 are overhead necessary for tools for the every future expansion.

Or to summarize: it's about frame of mind.

Hey i have an idea here, start a new farm with a different id and in a different device upgrade that barn to 1000 problem solved. Upgrading 25-1000 is easier than 1000 to 2000. I have thought of it a long ago but never executed. By the time i got this idea, i was in a very comfortable position but for u it could be very helpful. You dont have to sell your premium products to make room or to spend diamonds to upgrade. I hope i didnt spoil you 😂 just trying to help you.

That's brilliant! I'm way too lazy to set up another farm or transfer things to the other barn all the time, but that's a really smart idea!

Don't ignore your pets... they provide excellent hardware 3 times per day!

- Wheating (or corning if you still need coins). Wheating is life :)
- Trade everything you have an excess of for BEMs: food, saws and axes, LEMs, mining tools... There is a market for everything.
- Sell anything that is easy to find in the DD and/or to produce when your barn is getting full
- Serve only the visitors that you pick up with your PT (only one stop)
- Feed your animals, collect eggs/milk/wool as often as possible

That is very interesting! I've played for years but I've never known that either. I've never spent diamonds to expand. So it removes the tapes from your barn until you expand? SC should somehow advertise this. I might have used it in the past if I'd known. But good to know now. :)
