Engineered bases are frustrating

We have an interesting matchup with a chinese clan.

Us:
1: maxed townhall 11.
2. New townhall 10
3. Townhall 9.5
4-7 are townhall 9s
8-10 are townhall 8.5s
The rest are townhall 7s and 8s

Them:
1: maxed townhall 11
2: townhall 9.5
3-7 are townhall 9s
8 is a townhall 11 with lvl 35 king/queen and lvl 5 warden.
9-13 are 8.5
14-16 are townhall 8s.
17 is a defenseless townhall 9
18 and 19 are defenseless townhall 11s with lvl 10 heroes
20 is a defenseless townhall 8

Anyway, they do have the offensive advantage but the war will likely come down to the number 1s from both sides. Whoever 3 stars or gets the highest percentage wins.

They have 89 war win streak so this should be an interesting war.

Some interesting points made in this thread.

I'd just like to add :-

The matchmaking update of March 2016 was a superb balancing update. Before then, we had some terrible matches. Since the update, I can only think of one match, where hand on heart, we were definitely outgunned.

In March, a Youtuber (Ash), put up some videos on matchmaking after one to one discussions with Jonas from the Dev team.

Specifically, balanced bases within a balanced war roster was a check box within MM. A clan with such a roster was 'more likely' to gain fair, or even beneficial , match ups.
This is exactly what we have seen, and as things stand we have no intention of including non-balanced bases within our roster.
I read many forum posts about the difficulty with many engineered bases, and I am certainly sympathetic. I just wanted to agree with another poster, that we 'rarely' see them. This cannot be down to just pure luck!

Look i get it, we are asking for it with our casual friends and family clans. We should kick out friends or family who do not 3 star the same TH and defense and offense level they got. We deserve to loose half of the time. And it is because our roster does not include TH11s and is pretty variable from TH10 almost max to TH6. With 30 vs 30. We deserve to loose and not have fun. And we all suck at attacking. We are just whining because of the whining. We must be truly very dumb to waste our time and post about this on the forums and be a real nuisance to all those real "top" "elite" war clans and real "top" "elite" players who understand all the matchmaking and attacks.

Reality check: What is true is that we DO get engineered clans every 3 out of 5 wars. I am not saying we do loose every time we see them, far from it. I would say those half engineered clans are mostly too easy to beat. Which is NO fun either.

Look as I stated many times, we loose from "normal" clans too. And we accept that. However, when we DO get up to a engineered clan that has its act together (ie fully TH11/TH10/T9 defenseless) we might as well not play the war. Same is the other way around, we just matched with a premmie clan. We will win easy with two fingers in our nose. Even with my tragic attacking skills and 0 starring TH10s of late, we will still win. THAT is no fun at all either.

True, we do not see those fully developed ones 3 out of 5 times, that is much more rarer. But I do not think the ones half way there will stop growing into beasts soon enough. And then it WILL be 3 out of 5 wars of no fun.

I think if SC does not act soon, it will be too late and we will see them 3 out of 5 wars. However, the marketi... eh Clash of Clans Design Values statement in general does not forebode anything good for us casual, average, not so good players who do not have the time nor the desire to make a bunch of second accounts.

Sorry, but it's a lot worse than that. In about an hour, we have a war starting.. We have 3 nines in the war. They have six. What they did was enginer their entire clan. Their's 7's are a complete joke. So what, they get they 3 stared anyway. One of their nines has level 1 defenses but full maxed out spell factory and level 5 lighting which means he can three star without effort our best 8s by zapquaking two of the AD leaving only one for an easy kill with his level 4 dragons! Oh and in this 20 person war, he's number 20.

They are giving us everything from 8 down which includes two of their 8s which our 7s can likely take out with their level 1 air swepers and level 5 AD.

So What, our maxed out 8s are doomed, they don't have a freaking chance in this war.

Six nines to our three? They also have more 8s but I don't recall the number.

It is very unlikely we can win this war though it is not impossible. Their top 3 nines are well defended. We need to three star all three. Probably we won't. The only bright spot for us in this war of doom and gloom, is they probably can't three star our 9s . They have poor ground troops. They are probably modding too. Just not yet busted, They have multiple accounts that look like burner accounts. For the life of me why did they try to get a spy in?

Engineered clans to this extent are abusive and ruining the game. We have one 8 with low level defenses and maxed troops too but what this clan is doing is absurd. It's within the rules. Really, they are just being smart but I don't want to play that way. I don't blame them, I blame supercell. A change is needed and soon. Not the first this has happened to us. We not a bad clan. Our war record is 52-14-2 which is pretty darn good.

Yikes. 3 out of 5 wars? That's not fun. As I said in my post, I AM sympathetic. I agree that something needs to be done, or the whole future of war will be at risk. The game cannot afford to lose the casual/family clans who war for fun, and just want a level playing field.
My own clan is a casual clan. We are certainly not elite. The point I was making was that, I do manage our roster specifically to try to avoid imbalanced rosters of other clans!

How do you manage people sitting out of war? We tried that (for other reasons btw), but my experience is that people just leave to a another clan when they are asked to sit out a war.

In a way, I'm fortunate. Back in late 2015, we lost 9 wars in a row. As always there were many reasons. At the time I took full responsibility, and promised the clan we would recover. It was about the time I joined the forums. I asked the clan for help, and set out a basic mandate for anyone who wanted to be included in future wars. Basically this was, all TH8's and TH9's (especially) must have an anti 3 star war base, and I wouldn't accept players in war who's defences outweighed their offence capability.

Because we had lost all these wars, the clan backed me and my mandate. It couldn't get much worse right? My new job description was 'get us a green war log'. To do this I made it clear I needed to run a balanced roster. Of course, we have lost players since then, including fully maxed TH11's, but we are in a better place now.

I was fortunate as I said. Many of my clan mates have given the clan fantastic support since these dark days. Players have prioritised upgrading Heros and key offence units.
We don't war with TH11's, just TH8-TH10 with the occasional TH7. The only time I've allowed a TH11 to war with us, was when 'HOLPS' (one of the forum moderators) visited us as a kind gesture. We've had TH11's join us, and I've had to tell them that I won't include them in war... they usually leave! So be it. Good luck to you!:thumbsup:

This right here is your problem. If you have a single engineered base then you're a lot more likely to get paired with an enemy clan with them. If you have several then it's almost guaranteed. Run without any engineered at all, and keep a pretty tight th spread from top to bottom, and you'll avoid aggressively engineered opponents the vast majority of the time.

Also as Red Huntress said, engineered th are only a big advantage for your opponents if your top bases can't 3* their mirror.

If their 9's "aren't that great" then just 3* them all. It sounds like your opponents aren't going to have a perfect war, you get your perfect and you'll win.

The guy who was complaining said that his opponents 9's were "not that great", however, which implies that they were a long way from max 9's.

Funny you mention that, the toughest enemy th10 in my last war had mostly purple walls and was actually #4 on their map. We handled the opponent overall with ease, they only got ONE 3* on us in a 15v15, we won the war 42-31, but that one base was just really well put together. It took us 4 hits to even 2* him, and it took our 1 who regularly matches up vs th 11's with his 40/40 heroes to even get the 2*.

Walls are certainly very important, but using them properly is just as important.
