Planning for the future... is space a premium?

Im still a newb and I never built the second Feed Mill because I didnt even feed the few pets I bought (went exp crazy instead).

But now that I slowed down I find that I need the feed BUT I read that some people never even use their feed mills nor the animals at the high end.

I've also seen some really crammed areas so I was wondering, is it unwise to build the second feed mill if I dont "really" need it? I mean... I can certainly get by not feeding my chickens since I mostly just sell the eggs as I actively plow crops.

Personally I find the second feed mill extremely valuable; both of mine are pretty much running non stop.

Also if you are looking to do derby Feed, Egg tasks having the two is necessary.

I'm one who doesn't have all the pens of animals, but even with only 2 pens of chickens, pigs, sheep and goats (you will definitely want all 15 cows), I keep both feed mills running as much as possible. One advantage to the feed mills as a machine is that they only take "common" quick-growing crops. Any extra feed you have will sell instantly, and when you join a neighborhood, you can supply neighbors. There is one person in our NH who generally has feed in her RSS, and I always check there when I'm short.

So, space can eventually become tight depending upon how you want to set up your farm. Since you have cleared all the land, you shouldn't have a problem since it sounds like you won't be going crazy with decorations for a while. When you are able to repair the little rowboat, if you have LEMs (land expansion materials--deeds, mallets, stakes) use them to open fishing holes. Don't bother expanding your farmland until you have opened all your fishing holes. Fishing holes are the only thing you can use LEMs for that actively enable you to produce something. They also enable you to participate in the fishing events.

I second the motion that land expansions are best utilised in the fishing area.

I don't have max animals yet (there's a third goat pen coming in a few levels), but personally I already find myself wishing there were three feed mills. My two are always going flat out. I don't know any farmers (NH etc.) who don't use theirs. Also, milk and bacon usually sell in a flash! :)

I like my farm to be self reliant and use the DD only to look for extra goods and tools, so for this reason I really do need my feed mills and all animals, if I time manage properly I never need to get milk. bacon. eggs, wool or goats milk elsewhere.

I wouldn't be able to play with out both mills and all animals.

Agree fishing spot expansion first is the best way to go.

Yep, those of us that have heaps of pets can struggle to keep up with basic milk and bacon.

I have purchased it at max at times; and will again in the future. Good coin spinner for low levels.

The other thing I just thought of is that animals give you bonus items when you feed them. Not as frequently as the crops, but my chickens are pretty darn generous with their bolts and land deeds and such. :) So if you buy all your animal products or just don't feed your animals for long periods of time, you'll miss out on that.

* Cows: 15 needed. Milk is needed as well for dairy as for your cats and kitten... And that !$@%@! coffee machine asks for it too
* Pigs: 15 needed. Only every 4 hour you get 15 meat and every 6 hours 12 meat (having all dogs and pups) are needed.
* Sheep: I have 15, could have done with 10.... You can get wool easily from DD
* Goat: I have 12, can get enough goat milk in DD to need just 4 goat.... Producing goat feed in food mill is to be considered :)

2nd food mill allways. Producing gives xp and food is never longer than 2 minutes in RSS when advertized.

Yes, buy the second feedmill. It will be a big help, believe me! With the derby and the orders, it will be a crime not to (just kidding).

Not necessarily, I manage perfectly well with 12 chickens, 10 cows, 5 pigs, 5 sheep and 4 goats. I do buy milk when I see it advertised, and have had to buy eggs lately, but someone has to keep the Hay Day economy turning. :caticon: (Also, I don't have all the pets - no dogs at all).

I have both feed mills and have always sold extra feed, and it has proved a reliable source of coins - useful when saving for this expensive machines later on.

I agree that the dogs and puppies are a major factor in how many pigs you need. By choice, I only have 6 (out of a possible 12) so that may be why I can get by with only 2 pens of pigs. Glade has zero dogs, so she gets by on one pen.

I also agree that wool is generally available. With 2 pens of sheep, I almost always have batches of 10 wool to sell. I would absolutely be happy with only one pen of goats. I often sell goat milk in batches of 10--and I have no trouble making enough goat cheese for my own consumption. So if you just start out with one pen of sheep and goats, you can see if you can get enough wool and goat milk through friends RSSs and the DD. If not, you can always buy more. One of the most frustrating things is having pens of animals taking up real estate that you could use for something else important...like a swimming pool! LOL

Of course, you can always sell the extra animal products, and if you are going to participate in the Derby, some tasks can't be done in the time allotted (or are at least more difficult to do) if you don't have all the animals. The more animals you have, the harder it is to keep enough feed in stock. I am generally able to keep supply up with demand.

The game makes assumptions about what is available. You'll get truck/boat/townie orders for things that are level-appropriate, regardless of whether you can produce them. You probably wont even be able to buy those items to satisfy the orders, as purchase price is usually max and you raise money by producing.

You can play the game however you want. You'll find people here on the forum that might sacrifice their firstborn to defend your "right" to play how you want. But you might find the game works against you. Just remember it makes no more sense to complain about that than if you showed up for baseball tryouts and got looked down on for insisting that your style of baseball is to use a basketball and wear football pads.

I keep my feed mills running nonstop. I use up my extra crops and I supply my neighbors with feed. I didn't run my mills at all when I first started playing. But now I have found it frees up space in my silo and brings in a few extra coins.

I squished everything in while I worked on opening up fishing spots. I have all animals and both feed mills ...they gobble so much these greedy animals.

Since ur a newbie n u harvest alot, i would advice you to buy second feed mill ASAP and make lots of chicken feeds and sell em in shop. You will be rich in no time. You will need lots of coins to buy machines in future so its better to start it now
