I've stopped buying diamonds, and here's why.

I'm a long time player of the game, recently just hitting 116. Most people know that past 80 or so, the game just gets repetitive and tedious and the only thing keeping you going is your love of the game.

I've been playing for a while, and not afraid to spend money on a free game. In the grand scheme of things, my purchases are but a drop in the ocean but money is money for them. And I am satisfied enough to pay for a game I truly enjoy.

When the new diamond packages with the limited edition decorations got released, I actually purchased a diamond package a few hours beforehand. Naturally, I was upset I just missed out on them especially since if I delayed my purchase for 2 hours I would have gotten this decoration. Now his decoration adds nothing for Supercell, it's purely cosmetical and adds no game advantage. I opened a ticket kindly asking, that since I bought diamonds just before the special release, if they would be able to still reward with it. To my utmost suprise, they declined. With what seemed to be a very formulaic answer, stating that they could not give it to me and that if I wanted them I would need to purchase another package.

Now, I wasn't asking for more diamonds. Nor was the package giving any more diamonds that I had already bought. The only difference was a decoration which I just missed out on by 2 hours. And as a long time paying customer, they couldn't reimburse me for that. In the retail world, when an item goes on sale they would normally reimburse a person who bought it the day before for that difference. Up to a time limit of course. But this was 2 hours. All Supercell could have gained was customer satisfaction and any future spending from me, but an aesthetic decoration was not worth this in their eyes.

I know a lot of people will tell me tough luck etc. I don't mind. If you were in my shoes you would be feeling the same way. I know that the customer representative replying to my ticket has a certain formulaic response he has to keep to do I don't blame him either. I know I'm not entitled to anything. Im more so disappointed in Supercells decision in this, showing their greed and disregard for customer satisfaction. I still love the game, and I will still play it. But I will no longer be a paying customer.

Very unfortunate timing, reference to the real retail world and Hay Day very relevant too.

Customer service decisions like this really are crazy, it just costs them future income.

I had just purchased for two farms right before also. I considered it "just my luck". I didn't ask for special consideration. And I will still budget my monthly diamond purchases and enjoy my game.

Their decision was from an employment standpoint as this is their livelihood, their paycheck. They have over 3 million players so if you do it for one, you do it for 3 million.

They are a free game and offer optional investment. Id rather buy diamonds at my price and at my leisure than have a monthly players fee like World of Warcraft and other games require.

Please reconsider your decision and monetarily support our wonderful game and design team.

I'm not sure your retail analogy is accurate...

It's more like, you bought a lunch box for $5 yesterday, and then the next day you see a deal that says "Buy a Lunch Box and Get a Thermos Free!", and you are asking them to give you the free thermos because you bought a lunch box yesterday.

I see why some people are irked about the whole business. But I really don't think anything about this program as greedy. People keep throwing that word around when all the company is doing is trying to make money. That's what a business is supposed to do.

Just about any retailer will honor sales prices if an item goes on sale within X days of you having bought something. After all you could return the item for a full credit for the purchase price and simply repurchase it at the how lower cost.

You won't hear tough luck from me. I completely get where you're coming from. It's too bad they couldn't give a deco to you. Did you try asking a second time? I would. You might get the same response but IDK, I guess I am just hopeful for you that you do indeed get that deco.

I completely agree, ask again. Even a third time if needed. This is not a tangible item that they would "lose" money by giving you. That's just good business, in my opinion. Keep a paying customer happy!

I would pester support. But that's just me. I "lost" in the area of 200 diamonds once. Support told me I had used said diamonds spinning the wheel,of fortune in one sitting. Well unless I went unconscious and somehow continued to spin that wheel. There was no way in the world that ever happened. I pestered and pestered them. Asking that they please review my diamond spending habits, wheel spinning habits etc until they finally agreed to refund my diamonds. It took a couple of weeks and lots of persistence but I did get a refund.

My point is: if you feel unfairly treated and do have a solid history of diamond purchases, I would think a company that relies on said income to provide a "free play game" would make an exception and give you the deco.

Keep writing them. Daily if needed. Be nice, not rude. But be insistent if it matters to you. Go for it.

I work in retail and I would always do this! Most shops offer a refund and exchange policy so just take it back and "re buy" it at the cheaper price. Look after the pennies......

I would email them back again. I forget the thread name but once someone was back and forth via email with support about a lost snail deco. It was really funny, all the replies and banter. Long story short......she got her snail delivered eventually. Have you tried pretty please and fluttering your eyelashes? All the help us farmers give them hunting bot farms you think they should return the compliment ;)

Instead of charging them the extra hours, it was our discretion to back up the time so it appeared they returned it within the specified time. Customers were told about the courtesy and were appreciative and grateful the company extended the helping hand. Crisis avoided.

The other day I emailed Amazon regarding an issue I had. They replied and gave me a $10 refund when I hadn't even asked for it. Impressive.

Isn't that what it's all about? Making customers happy so they can be returning customers?

I have been giving this a serious think over the last while. I don't think they want the higher level players / long term loyal players sticking around for long. they want the fresh blood ... the higher level players are running out of things to spend money on so why buy the diamonds.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they have a how do we get rid of them marketing strategy.

I know this may sound daft but think about it, makes sense in a way, newer players haven' learnt the tricks yet and have no clue as to how many diamonds they going to use up until they wise up on game play. So spend spend spend.

Maybe we just a strain on their servers now.

I very much doubt that. I'm not going to suggest that somebody spends as much on the game at high level as they do at low level. Maybe so, maybe not. I'm sure that SC has numbers for that, regardless.

If they wanted to get us out at 100 then they could just cap the level, freeze the farm, and offer to reset us at one. They could even have a PR person write the message so that it was phrased in a positive way: "Congratulations! You finished it!". Or whatever.

We have bazillions of threads here on the forum showing completely inept responses from the completely clueless and completely outsourced support staff. I'm sure this is more of the same.

Not that it really matters to the players. Bad support is bad support, regardless of the reason why.

Same, it's certainly not common in Australia, we'd think it odd or greedy to ask or expect it from a shop, and not see it as a sign of poor customer service to lack it.

But like XYZZY said, "bad support is bad support". I have high leveled friends who I know are buying diamonds on a consistent basis just by the way they play. Addicted higher leveled players might actually spend more because of the "addiction". Who knows.

Which got me thinking, as for the OP...was this a company mandated policy or was it the discretion of that particular support specialist? Every support specialist might handle the situation differently. I would give it several tries, OP. Maybe u'll find one who will go the extra mile for u.

I actually think you find higher level players still purchase a lot of diamonds. I routinely bought diamonds to stay competitive in our derby, get my town train early etc. People spend it differently but we still purchase them no matter the level.

I live in Australia and used to work in retail for many years. It's actually very common practice because we are protected by ACCC. It means we are entitled to refunds on all purchases subject within a time limit, normally up to 2 weeks. It's not odd, or greedy to ask for it but it is poor customer service to deny it, especially if they're legally entitled to it. Anyway, that's neither here nor there.

I appreciate everyone's responses, and it seems the common suggestion is to continually open a ticket until i receive the decoration. Please keep in mind that this is not about the decoration, but rather the lack of customer service they have demonstrated. If i receive the decoration, it won't change the way how they treat future paying customers (hopefully it would, but doubtful!), and only proves that someone with persistence can get their way, something which i do not encourage unless they are absolutely entitled to it.

Agree with this completely. Support really is rubbish here; full of generic answers and generally not supportive at all.

I have had only 1 good experience with support; my first time refund of accidental gem spendings. Everyone since not helpful and copy and paste nonsense.

I don't think it's so much they don't want the higher level players sticking around, as it is they realize the whole game is like a Ponzi (pyramid) scheme. It needs a consistent stream of new base players.

I am sure they have statistics telling them at which level many drop out. I am sure many drop out early when they realize the game isn't what they expected. But I'd have to think the biggest bubble is around level 45-55 when coins probably become problematic for some. Then most likely again around level 100 when some may feel they've accomplished everything and nothing new to look forward to.

I'd also think the diamond spending is pretty consistent in terms of dollars generated. I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that the far larger numbers of players at the lower levels buy lots and lots of small packages, whereas the fewer higher up players buy more of the large packages to assist them with their goals (e.g. calling in boats to move up, derby, etc). And I'd think in terms of revenue it would be fairly similar.

But as long as the bottom level of new players stays consistently large, the game will prosper as those players move up. When the bottom level ceases to be a factor, then it will be a slow death.

Good points, I guess I am seeing it from my gameplay perspective (if that makes sense). I like doing things the hard way, never have sped up a building or an item (except accidentally maybe) and I try to do tasks without the use of diamonds, I love the more challenging tasks as they more fun for me. So during my earlier levels and still I use diamonds on Tom, opening production slots, used to do the weekly extra derby task and the bulk of my diamond use went to decorations.

If these are no longer offered in game what's left? Why buy diamond packages when I have no use for diamonds? ie No incentive to keep spending money. I don't feel valued as a customer anymore.

OP, I totally support your decision to stop buying diamonds, because it's your decision and you have every right to make it. If players are dissatisfied with SC's customer service, then closing their wallets is rational and the most effective way, as a group, to make their displeasure heard.

Re: Hay Day support.... the frustrating thing is it doesn't have to this way. I've played another mobile game for years and years. They're owned by a parent company known for their deplorable customer service. Yet with this particular game, if something goes wrong, you have multiple ways of reaching their support. There's a live Internet chat or you can talk on the phone with a real person. You leave a number, and they usually call you back within an hour.

Once you're on the phone, a specialist can look into your actual game, read the logs, see what went awry, and offer a solution right then and there. There's never a request for screen caps. By the time you're off the phone with them, they've usually given you a few units of extra game currency for the inconvenience without you even asking.

Meanwhile, interacting with Hay Day Support can be like going down a rabbit hole of misunderstanding, illogic, and strained requests. The worst request I got after talking to a Support rep for a few days was: that they were generously going to compensate me for their error and my inconvenience, but instead of giving me whatever this compensation was then and there, would I write back to them after a few days if I hadn't received this gift about to be bestowed? What is that!?! Why so stingy? and make us go through the trouble and time of writing them again to beg for this compensation.

In the end, the generous gift Support sent but not before making me wait a few days and requiring me to go back and beg was: two gold vouchers. :straightface:

With Hay Day Support, one common piece of advice I see is to write and write again and continue to plead your case to them. That players have to do that -- and even worse -- that it actually works sometimes is so wrong and backwards. There should be standard procedures installed. It shouldn't require a player to write the Support Team over and over again until they hit a Support person's sweet spot for sympathy or snag the right one. What kind of capricious foolishness is that. XD It's a disrespectful situation all around forcing players with legitimate game problems to act as if they're pests or as if they can't respect "no."

For a company as profitable as SC, there's really no excuse for the weaknesses in their Support service. Especially when I look at some of their gaming peers - who don't draw in as much as revenue as Hay Day - but still have massively superior support services.

Fascinating. When I was a low level player and was introduced to Tom's services for free for a few days, I was addicted and started to hoard diamonds to alleviate the grind. It took me a few weeks to realize I can't sustain this playing style without buying diamonds so I weaned myself off of Tom.

I wonder how Team Hay Day acquires new players besides airing commercials on TV. The last commercial I saw on primetime was more than a few years in which Craig Robinson (The Office) was playing the guitar and a pig giving him a plate of bacon. :)

That sucks. I totally agree with your stance. It just shows their lack of being focused on the customer.

A decoration too of all things. You probably missed out on a better value for diamonds as well that you did not even ask for.

we hardly ever honor anything past promotion time.
that being said if the promotion starts on January 1st and you come in on dec 31st at 23:55 you will have to wait for 5 minutes or pay full price.
we are not responsible for your bad timing.

although i do understand your frustration... I would have gotten the package if it came with a set of decor. 1 bush or gate aint gonna cut it. Its hardly a loss

Is it Macy's? They're going to close 100 stores in the near future. Retail's having a rough go. Lots of big retailers closing lots of locations this year. :(

I hear what you're saying too, Rivaille. Every business needs clear standards and procedures to communicate to their employees - especially if they're huge operations. With your company, though, I bet they announce the sales in advance. Customers have notice of how/when to time their purchases if they want to take advantage of your employer's sales.

In this case, SC just sprung the gift offer with no advance warning.

And we're dealing with a virtual token that would cost SC virtually nothing to distribute. There isn't a limited inventory, where they have to carefully account for each one. It's pure short-sightedness.

They could've set the policy that if someone writes in and purchased diamonds within X number of days/hours before the special gift offer, that they would give them the gift too as a matter of sound business. Not to be "nice" or "generous" but because it's good business.

Securing a customer's loyalty and repeat business are pretty big hurdles for most businesses and they could have done it for the cost of virtually nothing by sending Alfred out with this extra toy.

And guess what? When they send Alfred out with this gift, the player's going to show it on their farm, and others are going to see how adorable/cute/pretty the gift and covet it for themselves.

So, in the case of OP - and other players in her position -- not only has SC lost her regular business, and left her with a negative feeling about the company, they shut off opportunities to further advertise these decos within the game so that others will be enticed to buy.

Interesting...The LARGEST retail store, i.e. Walmart, took their price guarantee way further a long time ago. If something you purchased is available at ANY local store for a lower price than you paid, you get refunded. Automatically. All it takes is using their App. And that is in addition to their price guarantee of 14 days after you have purchased anything at their stores.
