Per title, I know it's probably somewhat inevitable as I'm using a first gen iPad mini.
But nevertheless, are there any tips to maximise performance to reduce the amount it happens?
I do have a long GameCenter friend list of 70+. Could that have any impact on performance?
What I currently make sure of. I always make sure my iPad is running the latest iOS software. And I don't have too many apps installed so I'm not on the edge of my storage capacity.
If buying an iPad with bigger memory isn't an option, then free up as much memory as possible on the device by deleting all unused apps and moving all pics and video off it. If that doesn't help enough then try culling the friends to under 50 and deleting all followers you don't regularly interact with.
Personally, I ended up buying a new iPad mini 6 months ago as my game became unplayable on my old first gen mini even after freeing up all possible space.
I find that with each iOS update my iPad Mini functions less well. If I was a conspiracy theorist, I would say it's a plot by Apple to get us to upgrade. :unsure: I did give in and upgraded to an Air 2 because I grew tired of missing the few goodies that show up in the DD, but started a baby farm on the Mini, and really noticed the crashing after the second to last update, however the very latest one seems to have improved the situation a bit.
Stored emails, photos, videos etc do effect performance, so I would upload what you can to the Cloud or save them off-device and delete them from the device. That may help.
Mine was crashing on my iPad Air. I deleted email and photos no longer needed. It has helped the crashing issue. Even tho I have plenty of storage space available, deleting this two things seemed to have helped.
Cheers, yeah I'm hoping to avoid needing to upgrade my iPad at the moment.
I have a fair amount of available space, so that alone can't be the issue.
I'll try trim my friends list of players who are inactive and backup/delete my photos to see if that improves performance.
I doubt it's storage limits that's causing the crashing. It is available RAM. The symptoms mirror those seen about a year or so ago with owners of original iPads. It will only get worse. Anything that runs in the background will be eating your resources: Mail being pushed, apps that send notifications, news apps, open apps, etc.
+1 for that. Outside of a small amount of temporary storage, HayDay shouldn't need much storage. It's not like it's saving off pictures or videos of anything. But there has been plenty of evidence that HayDay is a RAM hog while it's running.Quote:

I really have no idea whether simplifying your farm might help. Certainly farms with lots of junk on the screen make my iPad Air (first gen) run slow, but I haven't experienced crashing from that. But maybe try creating an alternate farm layout that has no decorations on it and see if that helps.
Ohhh never thought about notifications; good suggestion. Just turned them off on a few apps that have been annoying me with notifications anyway. Thanks, hope that helps. :)Quote:

I focused on shutting off background Apple things I don't need. Not just notifications but cut back on things like locations services; suggested search.
Stuff I never use but it seems it was having an impact.
My crashing is now rare and only during a long session. I'm much happier with that.
If now recommend everyone on Apple devices to review their phone settings. Turn off any of those features you do not use. May help performance and also battery drain.

How often do you need game center during your gameplay?
If you can play without, sign out of GC could help speed loading.

Believe it or not, I play without GC for a long time, and still is. I need other GC account for other application.
The neighborhood + extra farm I follow + newspaper is enough for me. Too many GC/FB friends not playing at the same time = inactive account interfering with gameplay.
I don't trade, I'm well aware my playstyle is different than most of players on forum. Just saying that playing without GC works for me. It doesn't mean I suggest player to never connect to GC again but to alternate activites that need GC interaction and those that don't need GC. The troublesome is switching app to log in/out of GC and reload Hay Day.
