Is opening locked chests worth it?

Hello folks,

I've recently started playing Hay Day, and I often find chests in my own farm or when I visit other people's farms. Sometimes they're not locked and I get some coins or maybe a saw or shovel, but much of the time they're locked and require 3 diamonds to open.

So, my question is:

Is it really worth it to spend 3 diamonds to open a locked chest? Do locked chests have better stuff inside?

Please comment and tell me what you think, especially if you have opened one before. Thanks. ;)

please dont open the boxes with diamonds!! use this little trick instead - when a locked box wont open, just click on anywhere except for the 'x' and try again on other farms. they will open eventually, it takes about 10-15 mins to open one for my case and i open up to 3x of 5 diamonds each day!

to your question - they may contain barn/silo items, mine items, saws/axes, vouchers, diamonds and coins. the coins increase at each level and my level i get about 580 coins if im not wrong :D

it works in a sense that you will continue to see boxes on every farm thats all. if you closed it then you'll have to wait for them to reappear and that may take awhile.

i feel that it doesnt make much difference - going back to try to open the same one or moving on to other farms. for me at least, both take around the same time to open. it doesnt work on your own farm though, so whenever i see one on my farm i'll just try to tap on it once. if it doesnt open then i'll close it totally :)

Makes more sense, If I find a locked one I usually just "X" it. Tbh I find a fair few that are unlocked already :) but I might try your method on other farms :)

Please don't waste diamonds on these chests. When I first started playing I thought I HAD to open them. ARG! To have those diamonds back now.

If you accidentally click on the X you don't have to wait. Go back to your own farm, then you should see it at the next farm you go to.

thats the thing, i dont see it at the next farm even after going back to my own farm first, not sure why. had to wait awhile before another one appears :(

• Are mystery boxes guaranteed to appear in any village I visit? Or do they have a limited spawn rate / chance of spawning?

As far as I can tell mystery boxes can appear on any farm you visit but I have noticed that any farm below I think around level 12 or so do not have the mystery box on their land. If you were to close the box by clicking on the X when it comes up locked it does have a spawn rate but I don't know what that is. When you do get an open box the same applies but people have found that if you go back to your own farm, do some stuff or fiddle around for about 5 minutes then go back out, you will still find mystery boxes.

What is the formula for the number of coins you get? I get around 80 or so each time, but a while ago I only got 60 somethings...

As you level up the coins found in the mystery red box increase.

I am trying to test this, but I have yet to get a locked one to open, even after 20 tries (I even tried refreshing the farm by clicking on the friends bar - the box moves, but it is never open). However, if I move on to a different farm, somewhere around 1 in 5 will open for me.

It is about 1 coin for every 4000 coins that you already have.

level 50: 600 coins
level 49: 576 coins
level 48: 552 coins
level 47: 528 coins

As you level up it changes. Increase by 24 so far.

As fas as I know, there is no official info from Supercell. You can only keep track when you level up. At low level, do it by yourself is not always possible since you can open boxes with other things but coins and level up before you open a box with coins.

Coins from box is not the primary source of income, compare to price from 1 bacon&egg or 1 blackberry muffin. Maybe that's why there is no record yet on how much you get. (Supercell, why do you give coins again ?)

I have opened a few and I have gotten the same things I get on the uocked ones and it seemed like to me that once you spent the diamonds to unlock one it took FOREVER to get another one that wasn't locked

If enough people post, you should be able to figure out whether it is related to level or coins.

I have about 3,500,000 coins
at level 63 I was getting 980 or so coins out of the treasure chest
I just leveled up to 64 and got 1024 coins out of the first treasure chest

That sounds like it could be true. I never open them with diamonds so I wouldn't know. But I have noticed that if I've recently spent a lot of diamonds on something, I will almost always find an open chest with five diamonds in it shortly afterwards.

Well, I never spent diamonds on opening them either, and from what many kind forumers have told me, I am not going to do it in the future either.

Bacon & Eggs make a lot more money for me than anything else right now (except expansion materials), and they are perfect for low-leveled players like myself (I'm level 18).

The coins in a box are barely anything for me... I'd rather get a shovel or something.

Well, i just spent 15 diamonds on hiring Tom yesterday and in the past 24 hours I've found 3 chests with diamonds....

I just tried this, and it works indeed. It took me about 3 minutes to open each box, I got 5 boxes in a row. And collected 1 green voucher, 1 duct tape, 1 panel, 1 blue voucher, 5 diamonds. Not bad I'd say.

I feel dumb, but I still don't understand this technique!

When I see a locked box, I click away from it (not on the X) and go to another farm, see another box, it's locked, go to another farm, repeat... I keep seeing plenty of boxes, but they're ALWAYS locked. What am I doing wrong? Or am I simply not being patient enough?

Lets say you go to my farm. You see a locked box. Make sure you can see your friends bar at the bottom of the screen, with my little tab. So click on the box. Don't click on the X to close it, it will come up as locked. just click on my farm on your friends bar again, then on the box (you might need to search my farm for it) then on my tab in your friends bar, then the box. Keep doing it. It sometimes takes a while. Does that make sense ?.

I don't think going to the same farm or the new farm matters. I always go to new farm, browsing through my friend list and open an unlocked box after several tries.

In fact, I guess the mystery box needs some conditions to be unlocked (I may be wrong):
- after a certain amount of time
- after a certain amount of locked box
- ...

The trick as described only makes sure a mystery box is available right away at the next farm you visit. If you click on the Close icon, you need to wait for some time to see the box again.

Same with me; I get a chain of like 6 or 7... then one opens. After that, I can't find ANY for like the next 10 farms. Afterwards, they start re-appearing, but they are always locked... again.

I guess this is right, doesnt matter if you stick to the same farm, or move to another. however as I stuck to the same farm, when the box finally opened, and I moved onto another farm, there was another box. I had like 9 boxes, one after the other, yes, all locked, but I opened them eventually, and I got some excellent treats. Also, I find that if I stick to the same farm, especially if that farm had lots of stuff on it, like decorations, and buildings, and not much space. The box is nearly always in the same place, or as close as. So I just click, refresh, click, refresh. And bingo.........

Yes! This was a big part of streamlining the process for me. On some farms I needed to try over 20 times before it unlocked. By staying on the same farm, you at least get a sense for where the box MIGHT show up, and so you really minimize the amount of time spent scrolling around looking for it.

On Greg's farm, it usually appears by the road, on the road, or by the house. Basically, it just spawns wherever there is available space; on other people's farms, it spawns anywhere.
