Deco for paying customers only

Everyone knows SuperCell are making money; lots of it. But Clash of Clans is the main source. If Hay Day isn't generating as much as it used to - this is absolutely a good move to keep the game going for much longer yet.

And despite getting involved in this discussion, I have yet to purchase one. But I remain open to purchasing one in the future.

Yes, it has shaken up long term players because we see it as a betrayal of the values that led us to love this game in the early days. The Hay Day we have now is not the Hay Day we had in the beginning, just like the country I live in now is not the country in which I grew up, because things have changed so much. We are told it is progress, and therefore good, but I can't help but see the loss of the idyllic.

That said, 3 years and 7 months ago I spent a lot of time visiting farms advertising in the DD, looking for toolboxes and plants to water. I would see deco on these farms that I couldn't access and long for the day I would reach the level, number of coins or vouchers that would permit me to "buy" that campfire or garden swing or wheelbarrow. The joy at finally being able to place them on my farm and admire them was very real. These days the toolboxes have been "fixed", so there is no point hunting for them, my friends and neighbours, or my baby farm, provide all the bushes and trees for watering that I need. I no longer spend hours admiring strangers' farms, or even those of my friends and neighbours (except Perky's of course, and sometimes Besta's because she is so quirky with her untold deco).

Why am I telling you this? Because it means I no longer lust after deco, because I simply don't see it anymore. What I did see when I looked at the in game message was that SC are now fully engaged on the slippery slope, and I simply shrugged. My comment in the chat was simply, "Pffft! Who cares?" Do you see? Hay Day has changed so much ... lost that idyllicness that endeared us to excess ... I no longer care ... I just don't care ... and am playing less and less as a consequence. Hay Day is now for those who want to pay real money. Those of us who valued the generosity of the early SC ethos aren't catered for any longer. The magic that was Hay Day in the beginning has been lost. Capitalism has won and the good has been tossed aside. Enjoy your deco those of you who can afford to buy it, me, I have retreated just that little bit further from this game.

Good post. Helps understand the psychology of it all.

I have to admit I don't know what it's like to be a long term player in Hay Day, while I do in Clash; which is of course a very different game. But it does remind me of Clash changing 'farming', I played Clash for 3 years because you could 'farm'. When it was taken away it just felt like the game I once loved wasn't the same game anymore. Not long after that I quit and have no plans to play it again.

When I think of it like that...yeah that really sucks for you guys.

I didn't buy the elephant, but I drew it on my signature. Some say it's just pixels, and after drawing it on a format of 500x100px I can tell you: yes, this elephant is entirely made of pixels :)
It didn't cost money, just took me a little time but not that much... and I hope it will make people smile when they see it. (I think my elephant is much cuter than the original one, but that's just my opinion :p).

Thank you for this great post! Yeah I feel quite the same. When I saw a nice deco on another's farm, I worked towards getting it. For me, decorating my farm has always been as essential as farming.

When SC posted on FB that there are new deco items connected to diamond packages, many many people complained. Some said, it would have been better to tell players that this will come up, because they purchased packages only days before this "event". Others said, that they already have so many diamonds from the last special packages that they don't feel the need to buy again.

I'm glad that there are paying players who support SC/HayDay, don't get me wrong. But people who have already bought diamond packages for the last years, will continue to do so - regardless if there is a deco item connected or not. But to get these decos people are forced to do so within a limited time. Now or never. That's a kind of pressure I don't want to have. Especially as we don't know if these decos will be available someday in the shop or not (if SC put them in the shop in a few months, it would be great).

Oh well it is what it is, either you willing and able to buy the diamonds or you not. Someone called it, apologies for not recalling who, when they sold the birthday decos that this will be the way forward. Just a matter of time and the gameplay will be affected as well.

I think I like your elephant better than the Hay Day one, cos it has eyes. I mean I know the statue is 'made of' wood carving, but can't they put eyes there? You have a cute new signature too!

It happens that I buy some diams so that I can pay the "weekly" salary of Tom and when I want to buy deco's occcasionnaly.

But if we now receive decos with the diams purchases how will I spend my stock of diams ?
