Need some advice

Hello. I've been needing lettuce for so long. It's never in the paper and I don't have Tom anymore, nor do I have the diamonds to re-hire Tom. I'm afraid of doing third party trading, as I was told that wasn't allowed.

Oh, and I left the neighborhood i was in, because the member, the neighborhood leader, left the farm and can't return, even if she wants to. So I can't do neighborhood trading. Been reading of complaints of people entering other's farms to go into their neighbodhood trading and then leaving the neighborhood. People say they are stealing. So afraid to do that.

I've even tried going to Greg's roadside shop. No lettuce.

Any more things to try? Thanks.

How often have you tried Gregs shop and the DD? I've often got lettuce in both of them before.

In your place I would go fully focused on a lettuce campaign to get myself out of it. Starting now, use none and plant it all, then replant it, and replant it. Don't use any until you have at least 50, don't plant other things when you could plant lettuce. It will grow exponentially once you get over the initial small amount, doubling every 3 hrs 30 mins. So the stricter you can be about not using any, the faster you'll get out of it. It will cramp your style as it means stop doing some other things, but that's over soon. If you had just 1 lettuce in stock and were able to log on 4 times in a day to plant lettuce and used none in that time, then in just 2 days you can turn that 1 into 128.

What do you mean by Third Party Trading?

You can definitely use the Trading Thread here, under General. You could offer BEM/Sem for lettuce.

It's ok to go into a 'anyone can join NH & request lettuce, just be sure to make a comparable donation while you are there. or ask in chat, offer to swap for tomatoes or something.

I presume you haven't started your own NH yet then? What's your current plan? There are Advantages & disadvantages for starting one or joining an existing one, which do you think you'll do?

I agree with what SmallChange said about joining a anyone can join nh. And what third party trading were you going to use?

My ideas:

--make a FB account with phony name (like really phony, nothing tied to you at all). Use it to trade and add new friends. I know you might not want to do that, as you're trying to find a job and don't want a FB account. Can you make one of your own and not put anything on the FB page just use it to link to FB to add friends? Potential employers will just think you made one and never use it.

--check the stands of those who follow you and those you follow. Do they have any lettuce?

--Join a NH either permanently or temporarily to get lettuce.

--Do as Tomville suggests above

--Check the leaderboard. Go to the bottom of the board and click on the farms near your score. Maybe they have lettuce.

--Maybe someone here can let you temporarily join their NH and sell you lettuce. There are lots of trustworthy people here on the forum.

You'll need to figure something out for both now and later. You aren't leaving yourself many options if you get into a jam. No Facebook makes it hard but there are NHs or followers.


And ya, what's third party trading?

I'm with Tomville. If you even have one lettuce in the silo, you can restock. I accidentally got myself into that position with cotton recently. One cotton left when I usually have close to 100. Like tomatoes, cotton is one of the crops that I always have at least 8 plots growing. I got side-tracked with a bit of wheating and after loading my machines a number of times discovered that I was nearly out.

I immediately planted that one last cotton boll and stopped using cotton for anything. It didn't take me long to build back up to a "safe" level. I am in a neighborhood, and I asked for a donation of 10 cotton using the NH trading feature. Those 10 cottons helped me speed up the process.

Joining an "anyone can join" NH would allow you to use the trading feature for crops, if nothing else. People in that NH would get XP and points toward the achievement.

Since you are hesitant to start a FB page for gaming and leary of the trading threads, your best bet right now would seem to be joining a NH to see how it feels. You can always leave. Our NH has had several people join who left within a few weeks because it wasn't a good fit. Good luck!

(Being in a neighbourhood has helped me too :) Several times last tomato or potato used.... And DD doesn't work for you then.... )

Trading third party is fine. There are people out there that would gladly give you lettuce in exchange for Expansion items.

If you have even one lettuce, then just swear off using it for a week or so and start the planting cycle.

Keep checking the paper and the shops of your friends. It'll show up eventually. Lettuce is available at LVL 58, so you can eliminate some of the farms to check by filtering out anything with a lower level. Make sure to click each ad of the appropriate level - don't assume there's no lettuce just because that's not what's advertised.

Join a NH that says "Anyone can join" and then just ask in the chat "Hey, I just need some lettuce, I will gladly fill another request for some". If they don't want to do that, then you leave and find another NH and try again. It's no big deal. It's not stealing or dishonest if you give full disclosure about your intentions.

I feel like you are really over thinking this in terms of what's "right" or "wrong" or "socially acceptable" in the game. If the game allows you to do it, then it's fine. Anyone trying to make you feel bad, or accusing you of stealing has a stick up their rear.

Indeed, I have been a member of a few hoods and have never seen the above request. If new members ask for goods, I would sell to them without hesitation since they gave full disclosure to us.

Midori, having just finished a scorch I can attest to the fact that it's simple to get your own lettuce as long as you have at least one in the silo. Okay, not quite a simple as opening the paper and magically finding it, but it's not that hard to do it yourself.

Like Tomville said, just plant it from a single lettuce and in two days you'll have 128 lettuce if you don't use any in the meantime.

Failing that you need to just join a hood and make relationships in that hood, then you never have to worry about finding starter crops if you accidentally run out ... as has happened to all of us I'm sure at one time or another.

Same question here. If it is zero then I will happily give you 1 to start the process, and may even give you 8 to shave a day off it... In 1 day you possibly could turn that 8 into 128.

Did you get lettuce? I always have at least 200. I'm not even sure how I have that many because I use them everyday. Anyway. I can throw some over the fence to your farm if you need some.

Haha! I learned the power of cuteness with my two cats! Destroyed all my books, destroyed the sofa, destroyed almost everything in the house but because they have this adorable cuddle-me-face you are totally powerless against them. They know they're cute and that I am particularly vulnerable... I'm no expert on Hay Day, like I am on CoC but I've been playing for a good 6 months. I'd recommend concentrating on your lettuce campaign

As for her recent post you noted, LTMP, I guess she either didn't return to this thread to see all the wonderful suggestions that were provided, or she did see them, but didn't try any of them. :(

When I first started reading the forums, I didn't know how to track threads by subscribing to them until a few months later. It's possible the OP didn't subscribe to this thread and didn't see our advice.

If the thread was on page 10 and the OP wasn't around for weeks, then maybe subscribing is a good idea...it's on page 1. She started the thread and it's clearly in her profile page if she wants to find it.

She needs to join a large NH with players above the lettuce level, pronto. Only they can help her out at this point.

I think there needs to be a guide to the forums that explains stuff like getting into the habit of checking recent threads and posts and how to see one's past threads and posts and what the graphics next to each thread means, how to see previous posts and threads via other ways, etc.

I keep meaning to start writing one and then something comes up.

Aw, don't feel sad about it, knitgal. :)

If she saw the replies, maybe it was just overwhelming. We all process information differently. There were so many suggestions, replies... maybe it was just a lot. And it's difficult to know where to start.

Or maybe the problem - and this is pure speculation - is that Midori wants lettuce, but she doesn't want to make certain sandwiches, salads, and smoothies. :D Sucks not having lettuce, but if you don't have lettuce, then you're automatically blocked from doing all the stuff that comes with having lettuce. Farm-self-sabotage through lettuce!

Also, once you solve a problem, the journey/conversation might be over. Some people feel uncomfortable with resolution and find benefit in savoring a challenge/problem for a while. I don't know. Just voicing possibilities.

Even if Midori hasn't read this thread, I'm sure it helped and will help a lot of people who are in the same situation (needing lettuce or any other crop). When I started posting, I looked for an explanation of the graphics next to each thread but couldn't find one... You are right, I think it would be very helpful!

Indeed, at of the time of this post, there are about 2100 views. I hope our suggestions have helped the lurkers reading the threads as they did when I was lurking in 2015.

If only I'd taken a screencap. Unfortunately, I was too overcome with privilege at being a lettuce-have rather than a lettuce-have-not. :smirk:

(But seriously, farmers, check out Greg's RSS daily. Once in a while, he'll actually hook you up.)

Other than the trading suggestions that would involve FB, have you found any of the other suggestions helpful? If so, which ones?
