Help tasks

When asking for help for a boat, please make sure there are GOOD items in your shop. Expecting 12 cheeses or 33 brown sugars is not fair when you offer tofu dogs, cloche hats or spiced popcorn.

Time and/or Tom goes into making those dairy and sugar cane products. The everyday run of the mill items are not a fair exchange.

And if you can't fill a crate, be courteous and leave those items for someone who can.

I always fill boats and rarely purchase anything but was noticing this contrast.

It's all about fair play.

I don't think this matters. I don't fill crates based on whether the items for sale in the shop are quality or not.

I fill based on how much I have in my barn, how much I know the person, and whether or not I am on a help task or working on getting my boat score up.

I also choose what to sell in my shop based on what I think will stay up. If I need a harder to fill crate then I want an ad that will not get bought in the first 15 seconds it is posted. I want that ad to last until those crates are filled.

You can choose whether to fill or not fill my crates but no one is making you and THAT is fair play.

When you fill a crate on someone else's boat, your compensation is coins, XP, and boat points. If someone happens to have items in their RSS that you may want/need, that's just a bit of icing on the cake. Telling people they should "make sure there are GOOD items" in their RSS when they flag a crate is essentially telling others HOW they should play, which I'm sure you wouldn't want someone doing to you, as well as the fact that one of the things about this game is that there is no right or wrong way to play, just whatever feels right to each player.

Also, telling others they should leave anything in the RSS for others if they are unable to fill a flagged crate is further dictating how you want them to play.

Like Rachy, I fill crates only if I have the products and if it will leave me with a decent amount for my needs. I usually don't head to the RSS after I check/fill the boat crates...I've already received compensation if I was able to help them out. Instead, I head to the next friend who needs help.

Helping gets you XP, coins and gift cards. It helps you with more space in your barn....

Then again i'm always looking: is there any water to give. If there is, i'll do that too for my gift cards :) Strawberries or tomatoes in RSS is bonus. But i'm not specially looking for those bonusses.

Having help task is even better :)

"Fair" may not be the right term. "Considerate" might be better. I wonder if you're directing this to your FB or GC friends or in general to people who have ads in the paper...I don't place ads when I need help and I very, very rarely help anyone in the paper anymore. You might save yourself some heartache if you did the same. I appreciate your point of view but unlike you, I don't think it's right to ask people to do that. They are playing within the rules of the game and you can't force people to change to meet your definition of 'fair' or 'considerate' when they are playing by the rules. Stop filling crates if you feel like you aren't being compensated properly. That way, you won't feel slighted or resentful.

If someone is asking for help and places an ad and they have great stuff in the shop, it's almost guaranteed that the items will disappear before the crates are filled. That's just how it goes in the DD. If I see a farm needing help and they have great stuff, I won't buy those things because I'm not helping them. That's how I play...I don't expect others to play that way so I don't put ads in the paper.

Many of my GC friends stock their shops before they flag crates or bushes. Some tools, discounted products, crops...a little of everything. I absolutely LOVE this about my friends and I have started to try to do the same. It's all about preference. If I need a crate of 2 fish and chips filled, I would probably put 2 fish sandwiches in the shop along with some other stuff. I appreciate my GC friends and their generosity is often very inspiring but I want to let them know that I really appreciate their help so I try to have good things available when I'm asking for assistance. If they fill my crate(s) or water my plants, they can have anything and everything that's in the shop. They don't HAVE to help me but they do. Putting little gifts in the shop is one way I can show my gratitude. The coins and XPs come from the game...the items in the shop come from ME. They are thoughtfully selected and sometimes very cheap. :)

Bottom line...you can't force others to play according to your expectations. You can't change their behaviors but you can change yours. Treat others the way you want to be treated and find friends who appreciate and compliment your game style.

One question though...why on Earth are you filling dairy and/or sugar crates for people? :saywhat:

The thing is, if you put up a 'good food' for boat help, that good food will be purchased in about 5 seconds; often leaving you without the boat help you need.

If you advertise rubbish food like Wheat, Indigo, Chili Popcorn etc it won't sell fast - which means your ad lasts longer.

The problem is the game design which rewards players for advertising ♥♥♥♥ food.

Likewise KG, I don't always remember to look in the rss. If I can help I do ��

The RSS is for selling items. It is a means to raise coin. It is not connected to boat crates.
Boat crates gives the supplier of the goods coin and points. It is not connected to the RSS.
Sometimes i shop, sometimes i help. These 2 are not connected.

I try to remember to put a nice RSS up when I flag. I don't always get it done, but I understand some like to shop when the do a crate or a watering for me. In fact I will flag something just to get shoppers to come to my RSS. Also on the flip side if I can't fill a crate for a neighbor I will tap a crate of wheat or something like eggs in their RSS just to say I stopped in but sorry I couldn't help. That's a considerate way of playing IMHO. Telling me what I need to do at your farm and trying to keep up with someone else's unwritten rules is exhausting.
