Clans Wars Suggestion

We almost all want clan wars, but making it happen is definitely a complicated task. I realize that this suggestion is incomplete at best, but then again, there are very few detailed suggestions on this anyway. Well, here goes:



Stage 1: Clan matchmaking/war declaration


The easiest way to do this is simply randomly match clans with each other based on their clan trophies, similar to current matchmaking. Again, this is where the importance of having players value trophy comes into play.


Now, once two clans are matched with each other, they are at war. No accepting/denying the war (there is a way out though, as explained later). Clan wars last for one week, and are only done every other week. Clan wars end one week, the league season ends the next.


Stage 2: How the wars work and Scoring


Once a war is started, there will be a new button on the attack page for "Clan Battle". This would work like normal search, essentially. It would randomnly bring up an opponent from the other clan that isn't shielded or online, and you can either attack it or return home. There will be NO skipping, and a cooldown of 30minutes (or whatever is deemed appropriate) if you decide not to attack. This way, it becomes more difficult to attack a specific target and prevents the war from becoming overly burdensome on the players (so you aren't always attacked as soon as you log off just because of the war).


The objective of the clan battles (which are normal, 1 on 1 raids) is trophies. Resources won/lost has no effect on the outcome of the clan battle. Clan battle trophies could possibly be assigned similar to normal trophies, so if you get matched with a significantly lower trophy player, you can only win a few trophies (or vice versa). In fact, I suggest that players win/lose the normal trophies as well. A defensive win adds the trophies to the score of the defender's clan (defensive losses do not affect the clan battle scores). The winner of the clan war is the clan with the most total trophies won.


Stage 3: Prizes


Clearly, the victorious clan needs to get some form of reward. I suggest that the rewards be somewhat similar to league bonuses, in that the rewards get much larger for clans with higher trophies. These rewards are the same for every member of the winning clan.


Now, what the rewards should be and how big they should be is difficult to determine. They could be either resources, a small number of gems, or perhape some special prizes (reduced training times for 4 days or 7 days of doubled collector production, for example). I'm not going to throw out any specific numbers here, though.


Special Cases:


1. What if a clan doesn't want to compete?


Maybe they have several members on vacation or maybe they just don't think they have a shot at beating the opposing clan. No problem. Have the leader of the clan have the authority to "forfeit" the war, but only during the first 24 (or 48 perhaps?) hours of the war. In this scenario, the withdrawing clan suffers no penalty, but the other clan does not receive the full reward for "winning" either. Intead, they get 1/3 of their bonus' size or duration.




2. What if members of a clan leave or are kicked?


If a member leaves, he/she can no longer attack members of the opposing clan, but any attacks (or defensive wins) that had already occured still count. However, members of the opposing clan still can attack that player and have any wins added to their score (defensive wins do not add to the player's former clan battle score). If perhaps the leader feels that the player who left could be losing purposefully, or otherwise wants the player removed from the war, he/she has the authority to remove them from a "war roster" of sorts. This roster does not change for any other reasons than the leader removing a player who has left or a player is kicked. If for any reason a player leaves and returns, it is if nothing happened. This means visiting other clans is still permissable, just you can't attack while gone.


As indicated above, if a player is kicked, he/she is removed entirely from the process. No more attacking or defending from the members of the other clan. As for the previous contributions of the player to the war, they still stand. If a player is kicked and is allowed to return to the clan, he/she does NOT reenter the war on offense. However, the player is still subject to being attacked if back in the clan. This amounts to a penalty for kicking and re-accepting, but not for any actual kickings.




3. What if new members join during the war?


Nothing. If you weren't on the war roster at the beginning of the war, you can't be added.




4. What if one clan has signficiantly more members than the other?


Even if two clans have roughly the same trophies, one could have 20 more members than the other. I recommend setting a limit to this discrepency, possibly +/- 5 members?




I'm sure there are plenty of things I didn't adress, but maybe this is a relatively simple and feasible way of making it happen? I dunno, but I tried.

Obviously, I have read the sticky many times throughout the months I've been here. You know what I haven't read? More than 4 or 5 halfway decent proposals for how clan wars would actually work.

Expanding on an idea from the sticky and offering up new ways to make it work is completely different than posting "add clan wars. the game is called clash of clans. Come on ♥♥♥♥♥♥sell".

I think this is a great idea that we all want! It should be made basically how you said it except for bettering it somehow to be more specific! All in all great idea, and hope supercell comes out with it asap!:cool:

I think it should be random within a certain clan trophy range. Otherwise, it would be easier to create ways to che@t the system with sister clans and such.

In the above proposal there are ONLY 2 times people can be removed from the roster:
1. The player leaves, THEN the leader has the option to remove them from the roster, but it isn't mandatory.
2. A player is kicked from the clans.




Otherwise, the roster does not change.

How will this really work
if some one is solo in a clan will they get matched with clans that have 50 members

disable multiplayer when in a clan war

cannot leave or be kicked when in a clan war

i mean I like the idea don't get me wrong but we need step by step detail how it will work

it will need to cost money like a gold amount like multiplayer for example

match based system where leader asks for donations via town hall request donate 1k gold each clan member

once all players ready when donations per castle reached the leader searches for clan war battle

during this process we are matched by combination of clan points player exp how the league currently works but also by number of people in the clan if 11 like my clan then I go up with clan with 11 members. Each war will play out like this
1-1 battle - I battle per 24 hours you must battle each member of the clan so it basically means that if my clan gets 10 wins then we obviously win the war if its tied then accumulated trophy count determines winner

if still draw then loot is shared

decent loot for winners but not too greedy and easy to get back if losing

what if a clan does go to war and looses every war it won't be much fun will it so we need to keep in check war balance. here is so much to sort out we need supercell to talk to us

Clan leader can request clan war donation via their clan castle not town hall as I suggested the request will come via the chat

request timer is 24 hours and will expire then needs to be requested again clan members can only donate once

Clan elders can approve clan war or reject via a vote system via inbox

clans can accept war or reject war if a war is rejected then new donations required but only 100 gold from each clan member this applies to both clans

you cannot be matched with clans that don't have full donation cap

so if we have full donation cap and we don't search for a clan war and we get a request from another clan we also have to give the donation cap for the war to start

when the war ends a cool down period applies for 1 week


. This is a great idea and would add a new feature to this game. Which I would enjoy as we could have war with clans evenly matched making it a challenge to build the right troops and strategy to win

I'm not really following your idea there ninja. Perhaps rearrange it so it's chronological.

Nice to see something other than 'omgz we needz cln wrs teh game is called clash of clans cmon supersell' I think this is the best way that we've seen proposed.

First, they have leagues for players, why not a league for clans. Clan gets put into a league based on overall trophy count. The Clan leader can "wage war" on another clan within their clan's league


While war is waged there is an option to attack the enemy clan next to the find a match. It could read "Attack 'Name of Clan'" and will precede to match you against a random clan member of the enemy clan. If you don't attack that clan member it will be considered a forfeit. All forfeits will lose you 1, 2, or 3 stars. I say 2 stars.


A war lasts only 24 hours and in that time the attacking clan needs to acquire a certain amount of stars which they get by stealing them from the opposing clan. At the start of every war the enemy clan has 100 stars the attacking clan needs to take 50 or more of those stars in order for the attacking team to be considered victorious. The enemy clan can also attack members of the attacking clan in order to take back the stolen stars.


Each battle during the war acts just like any other battle you would have with a random player you take what ever loot and trophies you you are able to get. When the war is over, each clan member receives a % of the total loot taken, if the clan was the victor in the war. If the clan was not the victor then each clan member returns a % of the loot they had taken.


In the clan view it shows how many troops each memeber has recieved and shared. With the Clan Wars update it will show how many stars each clan member has won and lost for the team. There would also be an option to elect a clan leader. Because the clan leader is the only one who can wage war and you don't always want to wage war because if you lose a war, that's bad, so the clan elders or ever clan member should be able to elect a clan leader when ever they want and if majority rules then the previous clan leader is no longer leader and the newly elected clan member becomes clan leader.


so this is my tale on clan wars. I think this would work great because it allows for everyone to get more resources and loot faster. It forces people to send troops to help protect instead of sending troops for the sake of sending troops. I don't know about you but I ask for healers and dragons and people keep sending me bombers because it makes them look good in the clan. It also gives clan members another way to help out their clan mates. I like to helps clan mates except I also want to get gold and slicer during battles and all my clans mates want dragons from me but I don't attack people with dragons so I ended up having to choose between, attacking people for loot or helping my clan mates. With the clan wars I can do both.


One more thing I'd like to add. They give gems to the top 3 clans overall. With the clan wars update you can give gems to the top three clans in each league. This would be beneficial to everyone including you guys supercell. You guys charge way to much for gems. So much that If I want to speed up the game to get max level on everything I will most likely need to spend $400-$500. I'm not spending that kind of cash on an iPhone game. And there have been a few times I have contemplated quitting clash of clans because it takes forever to get everything max level, especially the walls. You don't even need to give out a ton of gems. Just enough to keep people interested. Besides its not like you guys would be losing money. If people want to buy gems they are going to buy gems regardless, so why not help out the people who will never buy gems because spending money on iPhone games if almost pointless.

I'd like to suggest having an average level matchup function as well. As you suggested it, a high level clan like say, Bonbee Canada (just an example), could have every member drop into bronze, silver, or gold league and take their prize from the weak clan they get matched up with.

That's why the prizes would scale accordingly. Winning a war in say Silver 2, for example, could yield 50k resources, but winning a war in Master 2 could give 100 gems (just making up scenarios of course). The point is to incentivize players to fight at their own level, not to force people into matches that they may nit be a match for anyway. This is why incentivizing trophy chasing is a prerequisite. I'm not saying that having something like a level matchup would be catastrophic, just that I find incentives to be a better route when feasible.

The scaling is a good idea, but I feel like there would be a lot of mid-level clans which, instead of challenging themselves for the better prize, would just take the easy, albeit lesser, prize from a weaker clan.

Perhaps a few would, but I wouldn't think this would be a widespread problem at all. Even with the utter uselessness of trophies we have today, most of those mid-level clans go for trophies. The ones that don't (primarily farming clans) are going for resources instead. If these two (at the moment, opposing) paths were to be combined, you are left with almost no one to be the bully. True, not a perfect situation, but the cases would be few and far between and would be utterly senseless for the bullying clan.

I stand up and applaud you.

This is the single best clan wars suggestion I've ever read. Not only is it a realistic idea of a competition it also ties progress to trophies . The reward would have to at the absolute least pay for the army cost. A question regarding it, would it be divided based on contribution, like a percentage based on relative gain?Also, should the losing team get some reward? And, is does the clan raid provide a different sheild than the other sheild?

You make a good point. I forgot that most clans value trophies.

Is the whole clan involved in the battle? If so, how? What is clan wars to you? Is it players placing down troops in a battlefield? Is it clans competing for collecting loot or trophies? Is there a certain level of troops that will be placed? Is there a certain number of troops that can be placed? Is it just an empty field where you can place troops anywhere, or are the clans supposed to build a mini-base and see who can destroy the others first?

I feel like I'm missing something... Let me go and read it agian while you can answer my questions.

What it is is you're attacking a finite pool of players defined by the clan. It's not for loot, but for trophies. The concept of a more cooperative clan wars would be nice, but let's be honest, the computing power in an iPhone can't handle live audio streaming while running CoC in real time, you're asking for a guy to climb to the top of a skyscraper with a step stool.

In short it's them attacking each other's bases with their troops for trophies.

Yes the entire clan is involved. They would be doing normal battles on each others' bases and the only thing that counts toward the war is the trophies (loot is just a happy little bonus). This doesn't strive to reinvent the wheel, just to find a reasonably easy way for them to implement it.

Great idea! This Game is called "Clash of Clans".

I'm not convinced that SC has the programming firepower to pull this off. They put out regular leagues like it was some huge accomplishment but it was technically nothing different than regular matchmaking minus a few shiny badges and wrapping paper to group us into already developed trophy ranges.

Recent events have me convinced that their programmers are already in over their heads and are just trying to keep status quo while making monetary improvements each update.

I don't think they will be able to code all of the stuff in your explanation adequately without months of prep & testing

I don't think supercell are working on it or some moderator said, because there were so many ideas, from zach's idea to the clan village idea.

This idea is very detailed and thought through, but i see only one problem. It would get old real fast, you basicly attacking a pre- chosen player for different rewards. It might be fun for the first battle or two, but after that it would feel just like normal fighting. Also, people from one clan in the middle of a war would probably end up leaving his/her clan, joining the other clan, and keep nagging about getting elder, and if elder is obtained would kick everyone, return to his/her own clan and get rewards for winning war

Love it, maybe a stronger member could have an option to protect a lower member (will be attacked instead of the lower member) maybe for one attack for a bit of cash or whatever

I think they do. I understand the concern, and I definitely acknowledge that basicallly any real implementation of clan wars would take several months for them to do... but they could do it. I'm willing to wait if that's what it takes.

True, it isn't some super exciting, totally different way to play. After all, it's still about raiding other players. The thing is that I do somewhat agree with the person I quoted above about programming difficulty/effort. I personally am willing to settle a little bit for something like this, but I can see that some people clearly want something different.

You are correct sir, we want something different. Clan wars would be superb but I sadly also have my doubts that SC would do it. The league took 7-8 months to do alone. They did mention that having a league is what SC envisioned CoC to be when they were first developing it. Love the fact that you took the time to right out the ideas. Hopefully SC takes this thread seriously.

it should take three random players from both clans and battle them then add the trophies that each player won or lost to the other two players in the clans and then ( for example) player 1 got 12 trophies player 2 got 4 trophies and player 3 got 2 trophies the clan got 18 trophies the other clan got 26 trophies so u get the winner and the three players in the clan that won each get the amount of trophies that they ended up with the losers each lose the amount of trophies they got together then it is posted on a leader board this clan vs this clan this clan won, just a suggestion

Although it is probably totally unrealistic, I would prefer to see something voluntary, shorter and independent for Clan Wars. Here's how it works in my mind:

1. The Clan Leader has a "Go to War" button. When he presses this, it starts a 24 hour clan war with another clan who has also clicked the "Go to War" button. Matchmaking is done by comparing a clan's Valor points (an arbitrary unit I just made up) which will be discussed more later.

2. Once the war has begun, anyone in either clan can attack anyone in the opposing clan using troops trained as normal. The difference between this and normal raiding would be that you cannot win resources or trophies from your opponent, and you can attack them regardless of their shield or online status. (This should not be an issue if they are not losing trophies or resources, although it may be impossible from a programming standpoint.) Also, traps are not expended although they are still active. In other words, you are only playing for Valor points for yourself and your clan.

3. You can win or lose Valor points based on your success, both in raiding and defending. To keep it simple for now, it would work exactly like trophies, although be unconnected to trophy count. If you are attacking someone substantially weaker, you will gain very few. If you are attacking someone stronger, you can gain many. Evaluation of the relative strengths of opponents would be based on a mathematical formula that totaled up the value of all of a person's defenses and compared it to your own, rather than your current point total. (The details of this evaluation would have to be worked out, but I believe it wouldn't be that difficult.)

4. You can only attack each opponent once per War, and you can attack as many opponents as you are able to generate sufficient troops to engage. Yes, this gives an advantage to clans who are willing to gem and who have more active members as they will have more attacks per war. I don't necessarily see that as a flaw.

5. Valor points follow you around, same as trophies. When you leave a clan, that clan's total Valor points will reduce. When you join one, that total increases. This is the basis for Clan War matchmaking, with additional parameters such as relative clan size also being considered.

6. Victory in a war is determined by a running total that shows which clan has won total Valor points and which has lost total Valor points, so you're always aware if you are winning or losing. If your clan is way ahead, may as well go raiding for resources... just keep an eye out in case your opponent attempts a last hour comeback.

7. Players who leave after the War starts can still be attacked by the opposing clan, but can no longer attack in the war. Players who join a clan after a war starts cannot join the war. If you are in a war from a clan you have left, you cannot be in a new war until that previous war has ended.

8. Rewards are given in the form of loot, small amounts after each won battle based to help you offset some of your costs (similar to league bonuses, since you are not gaining resources from the raids), and the winning clan gets a larger loot bonus which is then portioned out to the clan members who have contributed to the Valor points in the war based on their relative contributions. Also, the top point generator could get a few gems as a bonus... since that will always be me.


I'm aware that these ideas aren't fully thought out and there are places where the system can be abused, but I wanted to at least propose an alternate method we might consider.
Zach's ideas are, as always, very solid and well developed and I would love to see them incorporated... it's just not quite how I had envisioned it. I wanted something fast paced, high-energy and that didn't involve the constant clicking on an opponent waiting for his shield to pop. :)

5. Valor points follow you around, same as trophies. When you leave a clan, that clan's total Valor points will reduce. When you join one, that total increases. This is the basis for Clan War matchmaking, with additional parameters such as relative clan size also being considered.

6. Victory in a war is determined by a running total that shows which clan has won total Valor points and which has lost total Valor points, so you're always aware if you are winning or losing. If your clan is way ahead, may as well go raiding for resources... just keep an eye out in case your opponent attempts a last hour comeback.

7. Players who leave after the War starts can still be attacked by the opposing clan, but can no longer attack in the war. Players who join a clan after a war starts cannot join the war. If you are in a war from a clan you have left, you cannot be in a new war until that previous war has ended.

8. Rewards are given in the form of loot, small amounts after each won battle based to help you offset some of your costs (similar to league bonuses, since you are not gaining resources from the raids), and the winning clan gets a larger loot bonus which is then portioned out to the clan members who have contributed to the Valor points in the war based on their relative contributions. Also, the top point generator could get a few gems as a bonus... since that will always be me.


I'm aware that these ideas aren't fully thought out and there are places where the system can be abused, but I wanted to at least propose an alternate method we might consider.
Zach's ideas are, as always, very solid and well developed and I would love to see them incorporated... it's just not quite how I had envisioned it. I wanted something fast paced, high-energy and that didn't involve the constant clicking on an opponent waiting for his shield to pop. :)

I like certain aspects of this. The way you propose for starting a war (match clans that have hit the "go to war" button) is actually better than my opt out sort of idea. Attacking for no resources/trophies, but allowing attacks on shielded players is also a nice touch, but I feel it takes some of the risk out of it.

Your idea and mine are actually quite similar, and personally I would be pleased if either of them (or some combo) were to be implemented. Nicely done Doug.

Here's a crazy thought to put the risk back in... in addition to hitting the "Go to War" button, there's an entry fee that the clan has to come up with through member donations. There could be different levels of Clan War where you put in anything from standard loot in various denominations, to gems for the hardcore... winner takes all. (These would be predetermined levels set by SC.)

Let's see how risky it gets if your clan goes to war in the 10K gem league or the 1mil DE league. :)
This would also self-select the clans into roughly equal competition levels because no one wants to risk their stuff at a level where they can't really compete.

(This wasn't really meant as a serious suggestion, just idle speculation.)

When attacking people in clans, I think you will have to be able to win resources/trophies, otherwise would anyone attack? I would have a hard time seeing big farming clans spending time to train tier 3 troops to get back nothing in return - I understand there would be a prize for the winning clan but I don't think it would be big enough to compensate some farmers for the time that could have been spent farming gold. Granted, I think people would still do it, but I don't it would appease the "forumers" as much.

OP has great points on matchmaking and the one week ends clan wars and the other ends the tournament. The prizes I'm sure will be laid out much like the tournament does it - top 10 players split prize equally. It does get dicey with old and new members because those who leave the clan, but aren't removed by the clan leader, are still "attached" to the clan they left. I'm excited for the possibility of clans wars and hope SC adapts in a few of your points to the final product.

It would be nice if they used a maintenance break to release a clan wars beta for the community to test. I know that's going way to far, but it would be nice. With something that huge, I imagine it would need mass testing first.

There has to be an incentive, no doubt about it.
Currently the farmers aren't worrying about trophies and most serious trophy hunters are not that worried about resources. Excelling at Clan Warfare could become a third goal on it's own, that does not necessarily mix with the other two.

Still, a system with rewards that all groups would find attractive would clearly be the best option.
