I am glad you made this thread, Midori. I have wanted to offer suggestions but didn't have a way to offer them. Here are my suggestions (some are based on previous posts I have read of yours as well):
--get the other cows. If you don't have ingredients, you need to ask why. Not having all the cows will likely make an impact. So get those other cows! ;)
--It's cool you want to help boats but no one says you have to help people with cream, sugar, cheese, butter or syrup boats. Keep your precious ingredients for yourself. :) Should you have excess precious ingredients and want to share, share. But be sure you have your needs squared away first.
--Are you using all 10 allowances to follow 10 farms? Follow 10 farms and check those farms regularly to see if they need help.
--Speaking of followers--You said once in another post some weeks back you don't buy from followers' roadside stands. Why? What if they have goods you need? I am unsure why you don't buy from them, but you can buy from them. Just as they can buy from you. Help each other. :)
--Consider starting your own NH. You're in charge. You make the rules. You enforce them.
--Make a thread in the NH recruitment section and make everything clear to potential NH members what you expect out of your NH and from other NH members. Let your personality shine through. What hobbies and other interests do you have? Do you quilt? Maybe other quilters will join you, so mention that. Do you like to go camping? Mention that. :)
--Speaking of a NH: You can even make it a trading NH if you want. Then you can trade. If I recall correctly, your barn is under 1000. No wonder the game is boring. ;) It must be frustrating with that small of a barn. Find a way to get BEMs. The trading thread is here for you to use. Have people temporarily join your NH to trade. I would focus on upgrading that barn.
--Alternate upgrading the silo and barn. Don't try and hold the tools for both in the barn. It's too hard to do. ;) LOL.
--spend your diamonds on opening slots, not hiring Tom for everything. Make your own stuff. Open those machine slots so you can queue up items. Stack products at the machines until you need them. Opening slots will get you making your own stuff and you won't have to hire Tom as much, if at all.
--Get a good, strong NH going. Trade for axes and saws (and BEMs and SEMs) and use the trick of keeping at least 20-30 (more is better) of saws and axes and never dropping below 20-30. Give it a go.
--Don't forget to visit Greg's stand daily for cheap goods.
--Do you have max slots open on the dairy and sugar mill? Those are your number one machines to get max slots open on.
--Sell your excess wheat and wheat some more so you get tools. Sell the tools or trade them for the tools you need.
--When you sell in the paper: Write on your farm name for people to follow you so hopefully they will. Do you sell the items people want/the things we rarely see in the paper? Write on your farm name, "follow for premium items".
--Speaking of your followers: check regularly to see if they need help. Check their stands regularly for items you need.
--As for keeping a certain number of goods to help other people: you'll need to just stack for awhile while you get that barn bigger. It might be difficult right now for you to keep any specific quantity. You'll get there though. It will take some patience.
--Make syrups at night while you sleep, make brown sugar and white sugar while you play, as you can re-fill the queues easily
--You also mentioned you don't get the vouchers you need. Are you also sending blue truck orders, in addition to boats? How is your mining/smelting going? Do you have ample mining tools?
--Make sure you check for red mystery boxes. They give vouchers and sometimes diamonds.
I apologize if you already knew anything I mentioned above. I just wanted to mention it in case. :)

When I started this game, I used the strategy of making money first. I made\sold until I had millions. This enabled me to be able to buy every machine as it became available. When that got stale, I would switch it up doing boats/trucks/town. As my coffers emptied, I would immediately stop & go right back to making money.
That strategy has served me well. When this new update gave us new machines, I was able to buy them & the trees without making much of a dent in my money.
My daughter had a different strategy. Sell little & put all focus on boats/trucks/townies. She never has enough money to buy machines & I had to give her copious amounts of high priced items for 1 coin to make enough to buy the taco & tea stand. I essentially bought 4 machines. lol
Try changing your strategy, focus on building up you coins & then you can afford to "lose" money filling orders. A side benefit is, by not doing everything at the same time, you actually enjoy it more when you start doing it again, like boats or trucks. Best of luck, hope you can find the fun again. :-)
Concentrate on one area of the game. Upgrading machines or barn or silo. Try not to upgrade both silo and barn at the same time tho. Or focus on fishing? Town? Mastering one machine. I focused on doing the coffee kiosk. I put the dairy and sugar mill next to the kiosk and it took about two weeks but I got it done. Master the feed mills. Make chicken feed with extra wheat and corn from looking for expansion items by cropping. Do your goat feed at night as it takes the longest. When I'm bored I pick one thing to concentrate on. Right now I am working town. I just hit level 26 in town if that tells you how much I ignore it. LoL
When my barn and silo were around your size, I just said "no" to upping them. This was before nh and all my GC friends sold off their exp materials. I found that without the exp stuff, I could keep like 10 of each product and never have a full barn and 40 of each crop. Then I just played. Without the 100+ exp things in my barn, I enjoyed filling boats, trucks and townies, help my friends and had good stuff in my RSS. 100 levels later and I still enjoy my farm.
We're upgrading barns and silo's and land from 3 neighbours in our neighbourhood... my maps sell faster (and on standard prize) than i get them :). Join a neighbourhood in the recruitment part. You can choose which and then you can work together on goals. It's much easier in a neighbourhood of - say - ten then in your past neighbourhood of 2.
And do trucks. No better way to empty your barn as trucking.
And you get 25 upgrades. From 1.000 up you get 50 upgrade. So try to expand your barn first over 1.000 to get the 50 expansions and expand it to -say- 1.500. Then work your silo. And as said earlier skip the boats. Be selfish :)
As I recollect, in an earlier thread somewhere, Midori mentioned having over 3M coins saved up already in anticipation of buying new machines as they become available. Correct me if I'm wrong, Midori...Quote:

We each have a different amount of raw materials, crops and products that we feel is a "minimum" to keep on hand. My minimum is one. Just enough to keep the visitors from asking for it. We each build up an array of "tricks" to make space in our barns in order to keep things ticking over on the farm. A lot of the time, I just need 3 spaces so I can collect animal food. I originally got tips from one of Tiggerr's threads. Here are some of the things that I think a lot of us do:
- I make space in my barn by feeding my pets and not waking them up (i.e. not collecting the drop). I have all 12 cats and kittens. If space in the barn is more critical to me than dairy products, I will feed them. Voila! 12 spaces in my barn. I also have 6 dogs and puppies. If I do the same with them, I have a total of 18 spaces. That allows me to collect raw materials (sugar, dairy, sauces, bread, cloth) needed for other products, collect feed and animal products and get a bunch of pens of happy animals, collect products from my stacks (I do not love stacks. Nothing makes me happier than having everything in my barn where I can count it, but I can't farm without them. A barn expansion is never enough to collect all my stacks.)
- I mine until I have enough of one ore to place in a smelter. That gives me 3 spaces.
- I serve townies without collecting gifts.
- I queue up products that take a number of materials out of the barn. Bacon and eggs takes a bunch. Then I can collect what I need most urgently until the barn is full again. Queue up another B&E... That works for a number of products that take lots of raw materials. Jewelry, blankets, hats, mayo...
- I'm sure that other people can add lots of tips they use to create enough wiggle room in order to operate
My attitude toward expansion materials varies. I went through a period where I sold all my BEMs and SEMs to neighbors to expand their barns and silos. (Most of those neighbors already had larger barns/silos than I did.) I got the idea from a neighbor who did the same thing. It worked out being as good as a barn expansion for me, too! Selling 15 bolts, 8 tape and 2 planks was the same as getting 25 barn spaces for me...and I was helping a neighbor! I went for months selling all my TEMs to neighbors. Right now, I'm collecting TEMs and they are seriously clogging up my barn. I've gotten several shop expansions and I am about ready to be done with that for a while even though more shop expansions are available to me. I'll sell all my TEMs! Voila! The equivalent of a barn expansion.
The bottom line that is true for me, and I believe it is true for a lot of experienced farmers, is that a barn that is almost constantly full is just an everyday part of the game.
Midori, all of us here on the forums know that you have been really dedicated to your farm for a long time. Your farm and my farm are about the same age. We're "two years old"! You've stuck with it, and I hope you can see from the huge response to your thread that people want you to continue enjoying what Hay Day offers. :cool:
Personally I'm still really enjoying the game; while I have a much larger Silo & Barn than you do Midori; and am much lower in level.
Being in an active neighborhood really helped me here; I know you are adverse to it but I believe you really need to get out there. The benefits of been in a good neighborhood are massive.
*In a decent size champ league hood that is 9 horseshoes to choose from EVERY week; more rewards.
*Access to more shops; through your hood list.
*Can take advantage of the trading *cough* I mean donating system the game has.
*Comradely and working as part of a team. Helping others do well in derby gives me a lot of satisfaction.
*Construct trades to benefit you and others, need 10 planks and have 10 extra tapes? Usually quick to find someone to swap. That helps relieve storage stress.
Great suggestions given already, I'd second a suggestion to join a mature and helpful NH. You'll find many posts in the recruitment forum or just search by NH name. It's probably not a good idea to start asking for stuff immediately though. :) Keep in mind, you will also find more people to help in NH (since it seems what you like).
I'm level 114 with a big barn but I also do not frequently help every boat in dd because that would affect my own gameplay. As others mentioned - it is not required to help. Take care of yourself first, then you can help others more.
