Oh, a few hints...first, Tom has a memory. So, for instance, I never make jelly beans, I always have Tom get them and I have never accepted less than 9. Most of the time, I get 9 the first time. Another hint, I find one side "fixed" and the other side more "flexible". So, let's say I need cheese. If I send him twice and get 7 as top offer, I select something from the other column and get 9 often first or the second offer. If I can get the item to swap sides, it will become "flexible" and I get the 9 offered frequently. The less I accept 8 and never accept 7, the more frequent I get 9 the first time. Number in barn is not a factor but swapping for an item from the other column really works. Often with pick axes, I will have 30-40 and send him for more and get 9. So, I usually have 2-3 items I am looking for and right/left column options means if the real target gets 7 or 8 twice, I switch to the other column and get 9. Next time Tom is ready, I go for the original item and often get 9 on the first offer.
