Tom woes

Oh, a few hints...first, Tom has a memory. So, for instance, I never make jelly beans, I always have Tom get them and I have never accepted less than 9. Most of the time, I get 9 the first time. Another hint, I find one side "fixed" and the other side more "flexible". So, let's say I need cheese. If I send him twice and get 7 as top offer, I select something from the other column and get 9 often first or the second offer. If I can get the item to swap sides, it will become "flexible" and I get the 9 offered frequently. The less I accept 8 and never accept 7, the more frequent I get 9 the first time. Number in barn is not a factor but swapping for an item from the other column really works. Often with pick axes, I will have 30-40 and send him for more and get 9. So, I usually have 2-3 items I am looking for and right/left column options means if the real target gets 7 or 8 twice, I switch to the other column and get 9. Next time Tom is ready, I go for the original item and often get 9 on the first offer.

I have pretty much hired Tom full time since the mid 50s and, although I curse him under my breath for the occasional bad offer, he has generally been okay. I like the sound of your theory and shall give it a try if he continues to be bothersome. Thanks :)

Oh yes! This is true. I accidentally chose 4 items once. It took days for him to stop offering 7 again even after sending him away multiple times.

He should start delivering 9 items, not the contrary..
Unfortunately, sometimes, when I don't have time for fighting with him, I accept his first offer, whatever it is, but it sucks.

Sorry to say, but I can't confirm any of the theories above and believe Tom is indeed completely random. It is, of course, very irritating nevertheless and I completely agree that it should just always bring 9 items. If for some odd reason SC wants to keep two other options that's fine but then just make them fixed amounts (e.g. 3/5/9) and be done with it. This penny pinching with 7-8 is just silly. It simp,y irritates players and does not in any way encourage them to spend more real money.

Yes, there are a lot of things done that seem to fly against good business practice but as long as there is always a fresh batch of new farmers coming along, why should SC care?😠

There are many many players not departing with supplies. It is definitely harder to play than in the beginning. I do feel sorry for newbies.

What Hayday is doing to jip us with Tom, having to run him so many times and then never getting 9 is nothing more then a corperate ploy to get more money out of us. Eventually wear us down where 7-8 is the norm. Boooooo Nick!! We made you millionaires!:mad:
