The bot farms are "better" too. They're buying more things (decorations, etc.), feeding some of the animals and sending off a few trucks over their lifetime. At least, this is what I've observed of the few I've seen.

i suspect those with feeding pets , and trucking aren't pure full time bots. I suspect people have figured out how to play part time and use the bots when they're not.

Well criminals aren't always better, but they are definitely very capable. That's why so many law enforcement agencies try to hire hackers... Supercell would be advised to follow suit.

That way a Maintenance Break would be a Break to do Maintenance instead of the current format of Maintencace to Break something new.

A bot is an automated farm running without human intervention. It will sow, harvest and sell crops.

They are harder to spot these days, but chances are if you see one only selling wheat, where the crates refill almost instantly and you can see the crops in various growth stages (usually 16 plots of dirt each), along with a package from Alfred left unopened, machines either all wrapped up (old style bot) or just crammed up against each other, then the possibility exists it is a bot. Occasionally you will see some with no name, or ones where the people running them didn't understand that the line "name_here" meant for them to put their chosen name in to try and hide (or maybe they don't give a fig). Understand NONE of these items I have mentioned are proof you are dealing with a bot. They are merely observed characteristics. You will never get a clear precise reply from anyone as to how to detect one.

The bots are run to generate "special items". They are either used for another farm they have, or traded/sold through methods frowned upon.

The official "make you feel a fuzzy and warm" response from ♥♥♥♥♥♥cell will be that unless you follow or are involved with the bot you won't suffer any consequences. The reality is many get caught up when they do their occasional psychotic octopus, oops psychic octopus, sweep to find these. The reality is condoning the use of Bluestacks has made them far more common again than they were. And that is a totally different story...

A bot farm is a farm run by software (computer) rather than a human. It is strictly against SC rules to use this software. They grow lots of wheat (or sometimes corn) for the sole purpose of collecting lots of silo expansion materials (SEM), barn expansion materials (BEM) land expansion materials (LEM) saws, axes, mining materials which they sell for real money in the real world. It's not always easy to tell a bot farm although they do share certain characteristics.

Selling wheat for 1 or 2 coins and the wheat replaces at an extremely fast rate if you buy it.
usually have starving animals that are placed one on top of each other.
no real decoration and lacking a personal touch.
No machines running, a couple of basic machines and a high level without having machines.
The house is the original house (early level) but they have huge silo and barn (to store their ill gotten gains)
graphics look odd as if manipulated...I have seen funny boat docks, strange fishing areas.

They just look odd if that makes sense.

If you suspect a farm is automated then don't buy from it and you can report it through settings if you wish. Don't panic about accidentally buying from them though. We have all just zoomed in to a farm and bought lots of items without taking notice. You need to read

Just reported one today. EDIT: Make that 3 today. Thought they might be bots. Bought their wheat and six crates refilled at the same time. Tried again and same thing occurred. Screen shot report.

What are bot farms are the ones without the names

I'm speculating you're right. When Supercell lifted the restrictions about discussion of third-party programs which modified their game files, I learned that Clash of Clans players may download free programs to customize a schedule for raiding other players' bases to gain resources while the bot users were offline. And thus, it's reasonable to speculate there are programs available to Hay Day farmers to customize which crops to plant and how often they are harvested and sold.

Per Nick, the game went into maintenance mode about 21 hours ago because "some servers went bonkers". Maybe the real reason is to introduce Psychic Octopus v2.0. Good hunting, PO! :)

Duh, bot farms went back to their usual business several days after the massive banning happened on 9/11/15. I noticed it right away cos at that time I was on a mission to complete the Patronage III achievement (sell goods to visiting customers 2500 times), so I kept buying cheap wheat in DD to sell to those pesky farm visitors. Yes, they are pesky cos I accidentally sold lots of axes to Tilly during my sleep-playing mode. Anyway, cheap wheat were gone at that time, but bot farms changed from selling cheap wheat to selling cheap corn. Base price is 20 coins for 10 corn, but they sold in real cheap prices of 10, 11, 12 coins but not 1 coin to avoid being detected by programmed search as well as eager "bot-hunting" players. But other than that, some suspicious farms selling cheap corns I found had the similar characteristics of bot farms.

Well, I informed the Tech Support right away with usual reply: we will look into it, but also posted in the forum to warn readers. Interestingly, my post was deleted about 30 minutes after posting...
