This game is RUINED by terrible attack AI

This is my first (and probably last) post.
I've been playing this game & reading the forums every day since November last year & have an almost maxed out TH7, XP level 61 and 1238 trophies (which I've never cared about).
Nearly all the posts on this forum are dominated by talk of "farming levels" vs "trophy ranges" & "gemmers" vs "non-gemmers", etc. In the 30+ years I've been playing games I've never encountered a game so popular that at its core relies on the manipulation of match-making so much in order to progress anywhere. I've thought about this a lot (as an aside, it's my job) & in my mind this boils down to one simple thing - the attack AI is absolutely garbage & completely uncontrollable. For me it has completely ruined the game. You simply can't attack people at your own level (certainly not higher) in an effective manner - hence everyone is forced to troll around picking on the little guy. I'm sick of it. I'm tired of attacking "average" bases only to see my AI getting slaughtered as they do something stupid. As has been mentioned many times by others the cost of attack vs reward usually has a small pay-off.
There are many "offenders" - the worst by far of which are the wall-breakers. They are so easily confused by common wall lay-outs - particularly designs where one part of the wall is recessed. No amount of zooming in or careful placement can get them to attack where you want - which leads to an entirely frustrating experience.
WHY, OH WHY - can we not have a simple feature that lets us select an opponents defensive piece & then any troops deployed after that attack it first? Simple and effective. I'd merrily attempt to attack higher TH levels to grab some resources if that was possible (even risking the resultant revenge later). Every other RTS in existance has at least this.
It would add another level of depth to the game for ZERO effort.
I'm also tired of seeing AI (archers/barbarians, etc ) decide to attack pointless buildings in droves, whilst being slaughtered by defensive units right beside them. Again, how about a simple rule that if an AI is being attacked, it attacks back. Goblins & giants are the only "useful" AI as at least you've got a decent chance of working out what they'll do.
Couple of other random points:
- In the many hundreds of attacks I've made; I've been revenged 3 times. At first I tried to use it all the time, now I don't bother. This point has been made by many others - I don't even bother with the list anymore - but I do like the option, just in case. Please add a "can revenge now" button to save time/frustration.
- I've not bothered to build my clan castle yet - this was a deliberate experiment. My conclusion, they've been fairly pointless SO FAR (maybe at higher TH levels or in decent clans they are more useful?). I've been attacked by one 4-5 times, due to the AI issues described above & the fact they all spawn from the one point - each time they've been decimated, usually in a pretty comical manner. In the hundreds of attacks I've made, I'd say the clan castle defended effectively 10-12 times, but that was before I realised I could decimate them all using lightning spells. Most of the time clans castles are empty and serve no purpose.
My TH/mines/pumps are already outside my walls (have been since the start) - enjoy.
