Managing Barn : Silo Expansion

Hey guys,

I have been playing hay day for a little over 3 months now , got super burnt on Clash so i figured maybe running my own farm might help in getting rid of this fatigue. Anyhow, Till level 30 I just played normally , like log in -> run all machines -> feed animals -> truck orders/boat orders -> Help people/Random Boat orders in Newspaper -> log out. Obviously doing only Truck and Boat led me to gaining levels fast which ultimately led to me being unable to have enough gold for new machines.

So i came onto forums , read through all posts , came to know about selling items on RSS = KACHING!!! :D

Stopped doing boat/truck orders , sold all my produce in Rss = Me making enough coins to get all the machines.

Now the thing is i have started to notice recently that i am lagging behind on my barn/silo upgrades. Atm , i am level 48 with 500 spaces for barn and 600 for silo. This deficit between the two will grow by 25 once i have one more wood panel.

Now the questions is how are you guys managing this? Like for me tapes are the hardest to get because of which my barn upgrades keep falling back.


I have tried joining Nh's but then i realized i dont play long enough to actually be of help in Derby tasks so i just play solo with facebook friends ( most of which are lazy as well ). Obviously joining Nh's will help me to swap out the extra expansion items for the ones i need = Everyone happy.

One more thing , a couple of Nh's i have joined are not active , like machines are running in most of the farms but no one talks in the chat/ boat request go unfilled. So i just gave up on hoods.

I only ever have time to wheat on the weekends , i mean i still log in every day to keep machines running and keep making goodies but then i cant wheat as most of my time during the week is spent on Clash.

One last thing , I only wheat once i reach close to an upgrade, so sometimes it can be 2 weeks before i get an upgrade done but recently somehow, Silo is on a roll , poor barn gets no love .

So if this happened to you , how did you guys go around managing it / working around it?

PS : Why do people buy the last box of wheat in RSS where the advert is put up, Leaving me with 12 boxes of Wheat and one empty box :mad::mad: ( the wait is so frustrating esp when you are sitting on 400 wheat )

The money is not the issue here, Barn / Silo upgrades are, Like i said, past 4 upgrades have been solely Silo, So at this rate , one day i might very well have a silo of 3000 but a barn of 500 which means i cant satisfy my urge to HOARD :p

I mean my land expansion is going faster than my barn lol. Plus I have those White flowers due to honey running rampant in farm, So most of the items i get from wheating are Saws/axes plus the other EM but Tapes.

I managed the barn/silo expansion issue by focusing on one at a time, and using the trading thread to trade for stuff I needed.

I also sell my wheat to the visitors, so make sure it is top of your silo and they should ask for a chunk of it eventually :)

Ill have a go at the trading thread. I have been trying to upgrade whatever expansion items i get in relation to barn/silo. So sometimes i have 18 panels/bolts for no use , occupying extra space .

I always think it's a good idea to increase your barn more than your silo. I say that because all expansion materials are stored in your barn.

As far as the white flowers are concerned, it seems to help with axe drops if you make sure that you have a number of axes stored. In Hay Day, there is a tendency for you to receive more of the items you don't need! If you make sure you have axes in stock, you are likely to find you receive more.

All farms have some Expansion Materials that are rare, and others that are more common. Some farmers say it help to sell off the common items, so they have a better balance. They may then receive more of the rare item.

You're not that far behind me at least. I'm at level 65 and my barn is at 850 and my silo's at 700. :P

There are a couple of other sources of tool/EM (expansion material) drops that can help.

Pets help a lot as you accumulate them. I have often gotten that last roll of tape needed for a barn expansion from my cats. Pets are the best use of your vouchers since feeding them produces drops. Also, feeding the cats and dogs can give you a bit of slack in your barn because they eat milk and bacon. If I need a couple of spaces in my barn to collect a product I need, I'll feed my cats.

If you have opened up your town, serving the visitors produces drops also. Even if you get things that you don't need, you can always sell them. Also, collecting the town visitor gifts will happen even if you have a full barn. I've overfilled my barn by 10+ items collecting gifts from townies.

Caveat: if your barn is full, you won't get drops from farm crops/animals/etc.
