I'm thinking about lvling my th to 9. Currently I'm 8 th with all lvl 6 walls, lvl 5 morts, lvl 7 Ats, lvl 8 canns, lvl 4 wts, camps are maxed, I want the extra wall, Xbox and the extra teslas.. But should keep lvling up what I have or just take the plunge and upgrade the TH? My trophy range if 1700ish
Max your splash defenses to level 6 and get your walls to level 7 before upgrading your TH. Wish I had.
I personally wouldn't upgrade in your position, I'm town hall 8 and I have level 6 walls, level 6 mortars, level 8/9 archer towers, level 10 cannons, level 5/6 wizard towers and have no plans to upgrade for a long while. At least until I've upgraded my walls, wizard towers, archer towers, air defences (level 4) and teslas (level 2)Quote:

You can upgrade it. You may have to spend a bit longer to find optimal raids for resources, but the extra defense from the xbow/tesla's isn't too bad.
I upgraded to 9 earlier then you and I was doing fine around 2k trophies. Base layout can make up for weaker walls/defenses.
You'll honestly be fine no matter what you do.
I'm at TH8 with LVL 7/8 walls, LVL 9 Archer towers, LVL 10 Cannon Towers, Lvl6 Mort/AA, LVL 5 Wiz, LVL 3 Teslas and I do not plan on upgrading until everything is maxed. The QQ threads by TH9ers has done well to keep me from upgrading TH :rolleyes:

If your defensive structures are that low I'd suggest against it. Almost what lvl troops do to have? You should have all maxed troops and spells before even considering moving to TH9. Patience is the key in this game. No sense in rushing to the next TH when your bit finished with TH current one. This is like shooting yourself in the foot.
Also just for reference I'm TH7 and I'm maxing everything before going to TH8. That even includes my collectors. I'll have maxed every building, spell and wall before I move to TH 8. It means I find resources much easier than someone of a higher TH.
Also, the extra walls you will get don't do much good if your current walls are only lvl 6. You'll be stuck upgrading 225 walls to lvl 7 and then lvl 8 while being penalized for attacking lower THs.
Hardly... tons of people upgrade early. Still lots of 100k - 300k farms 1400-1800 trophy range. Had no problem defending resources with lower level mortars and level 5 walls. Could get one starred occasionally by mass archers/barbs, but that's going to happen when they are outside your walls as mine were.Quote:

What else does he need??? There is no higher.. And dont be smart with your reply... Think about it. If he cant get his defenses to look like he belongs to a TH6 group then what chance does he have at 9??

I sat at 2100 trophies with lower walls and mortars, just 1 xbow. You can still defend just fine. I upgraded before there was the second xbow and you could only get one at max TH level.Quote:

I tell everyone in my clan to wait and max out everything and most listen, our clan is solid and we are ranked 3000 which isnt to shabby for a fairly new clan...
Yes, you're still going to get successfully attacked, but less often. Defence upgrades would be pointless if they made no difference. There's no drawback to waiting until your defences are maxed out. It only requires patience.Quote:

Speaking as someone who jumped to townhall level 9 early, I can't stress enough - DON'T DO IT!
If your troops and defense aren't upgraded enough, you are going to find it really really tough! Suddenly you'll find that you can't get any targets with resources above 100k and you'll get start getting attacked by more and more townhall level 9 people. This is because of the loot penalties. You will get less for your attacks, and the current townhall 9s will get more from attacking you now than before, and your base will be an easy target due to your low level defenses. To top it off, you'll probably find that you start running into problems of not having enough elixir. You might build an army that costs 100k elixir so that you can beat harder targets, and find that you can't get enough elixir in loot to build your next army. The elixir just drains away.
I'm only just getting out of that rut, and I've had to raise my trophies from around 1200 to about 1800 and spent real money on gems to speed up my recovery. That mean winning many battles with no gain in elixir for quite some time!
Max out your base at townhall level 8 first.

Max everything including your walls. TH9 structures and levels are already expensive enough. Take your time.
