I have looked through the newspaper for hours and nobody ever sells coffee. Yesterday I couldn't find raspberries. After I found them (finally!) and filled my boat order, I saw it often. I wonder if there's some connection between what we need and what we see for sale.
its not easy to find coffee (beans)! when i first got the coffee maker i started a thread like yours asking if coffee beans were that rare, luckily i had some helpful friends who were willing to sell some to me. i do feel that whenever i need something for boat it takes a long time to find them, even for things as common as carrot pies and roasted tomatoes. maybe its psychological? the more anxious you are the longer it will seem to get hold of them.
Hi, you can't buy coffee until level 42, therefore you won't see adverts for it. You may see it in friends stalls but you can't buy it. There are lots of posts on the subject of never being able to find what you need, I think the game knows, and hides it.Quote:

I'm sure there are other threads about on the topic as well. I think it may have to do with this new business of so many folks having the same boat requirements at the same time that's been happening so frequently since the Birthday update. So many of us now need the same items at the same time. I also think that's why, after we cast of the boat (filled or unfilled), we suddenly see a flux of those items for sale....everyone's selling off their post boat excess.
Frustrating to say the least. How am I supposed to help my neighbors when I have 15 boat help requests all needing supplies the same time, and 6 of those boats need 3-4 crates each of cream and 7 boats need 3-4 crates each of butter while I need butter for my own boat all at the same time? That limits me to helping the remaining two (if I have what they need) and maybe one or two of the cream crates and that's it. :(
Besides that, I don't think various coffee types are in big demand so folks don't make it unless they need it themselves. I see boats asking for it and have had a couple myself but it not up there in being common. There is also very little profit in making and selling...there's only a 4 gold profit on plain coffee for example and it takes white sugar that is better used on higher profit items. That's my guess anyway but I could be wrong.
Basically, I believe it's Murphy's law...Whatever you need at the time, it won't be found until you no longer need it. :D
There might be a connection, but it would be hard to test and prove.
I think it's more likely there is a psychological element here that makes us *think* the game is withholding the items from us. I believe we are just wired to be more likely to remember the times we are frustrated at being unable to find what we need when we need it, and less likely to remember the times we went to the paper and found just what we were looking for.
There are some fascinating studies done about pattern recognition where people "see patterns" that don't exist, or find things to be more likely than they really are. But when you drill down into the data, it's less about how probable or likely something is, and more about our brain's ability and tendency to dismiss certain events or data as inconsequential and retain other information as being important or relevant.
When we go back later to recall certain events we tend to only recall the ones our brains have flagged as "important", and tend to disregard the rest. As a result, what we think is a fair sampling of past events can actually end up being a very skewed perspective.

I actually just became a Level 42 but I don't have enough coins to buy a coffee machine yet. I do have coffee beans growing though.
The reason I think there is a connection is because if you click on your vouchers and then you go find treasure chests, it seems you usually get vouchers (for example). It probably can't be proven but it is a strange coincidence.
The Coffee products also make no profit from selling in stalls even at max price (at least the Espresso, which is what I've unlocked so far), so I guess less incentive to sell them. I've never seen coffee beans ad on dd, but do run across them at my friends stalls.
I wish I could send my boat away after I've filled some of it once I realize I can't fill it! lol

I did sell it when I first got the machine but no one ever seemed to buy it so I stopped. I've only seen beans advertised 2-3 times in the DD at most but will very ocassionally come across them in a stall when responding to an ad for something else. More likely to find them in a neighbors stall and even that's only now and then. I guess that's because the take so long to grow and needs 3 beans and one sack of sugar for one tiny little cup of plain coffee. Diabetes anyone?
