What do you look for in a clan?
When you are looking for a clan to join, what do you look for?
Seeing as different people play CoC in different ways and with different strategies it seems to me that a wide range of people who join clans for different reasons.
I was in a clan for a while and I saw a huge number of clan hoppers, many of who were just after some free troops, but some just wanted to chat. As soon as the clan chat went quiet went quiet they would leave. Others where just after Eldership. They would join, start asking about being made elder and they moment it became clear to them that it was not going to happen instantly, they would leave.
It disheartened me after a while how many of our clan members were inactive. After the update came out I saw that as many as half had either not donated or had not said anything in the clan chat. Actually, out of all 45 or so clan members there were only about three who regularly donated and who would say anything (even a simple "Hi") in the clan chat.
Now I do appreciate that as your levels go up and it takes days, rather than hours, to upgrade anything, there will be many people who will "mother hen", that is to say sit tight, and "hatch" their upgrades, but surely they could just drop into the clan chat every few days and see if anyone needs a donation?
So eventually I left the clan and went searching for another. I must admit it put me off, going from one to another, looking on the forums, trying to find something not run by kids ( I do know many young as well as older adults play this game as well). There were clans that seemed to have lots of rules, more like a dictatorship than anything. I understand that for players who are into "serious fun" that some clans lots of rules are necessary, but ideally I wanted something that had a bit more of a democratic structure. Unfortunately it seems to me that a very small number of clans have either lots of rules and that most clans have, well, simply no rules at all. There are some fine clans out there who do have a really good rules and structure, but unfortunately for me, their requirements level and trophy wise are just too high. I guess that'ss why they have become successful clans, they have found a happy medium and have attracted good reliable players who stay with them.
So in the end I formed my own clan with what I thought was a happy medium (adult players only, only archer donations, 300 donations per week required). Still waiting on people to join. I want it to be a fun clan but also with a good structure so it becomes successful ( players active, lots of donations and no incessant elder begging or clan hoppers). So while I wait I thought I would ask the general community what they think about clans. Maybe I can get some good ideas from you.
So what works for you? What attracts you to a clan and makes you want to stay with it? What annoys you in a clan? What makes you leave a clan and look for another? What are some examples of great clan set ups you have seen?
What do you look for in a clan?
girls... lots of girls...
Respect, respect and respect...
I think respecting among clan members is extremely important. Swearing unnecessarily can deal a great impact on a clan and sometimes clan mates will start to mistrust each other. As leader, I make sure one is respectful, polite and friendly before sending him an invitation. If one voluntary joins our clan and starts cussing, I would kick him out. Better losing a few rankings rather than risking good relationships among clan mates.
Bad Leader... Great Elders
My clan leader sucks. If not for some of the clan elders (buddies) I would have left. The problem I face with my clan is Great Clan Elders but Bad Clan leader. Imaging Donation from the clan leader was below 50 troops compare with top donor of 1500 +++ ( and thats from junior member).
Sucks!
