IMPORTANT UPDATE 12th Febuary
Our sister clan in now called Riverbears
.................................................. .................................................. .........................................
Important update 9th Febuary.
Please note important proposals and other stuff listed on page 20 of this thread.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi.
I am seeking to attract adult players. The actual age is not important but being able to act like an adult is important.
Players around the world are welcome. Your level and trophy count is not important, but your willingness to constantly donate and participate is important.
Just a few simple rules to follow:
Please say "hi" and "bye" when you log in and out. This is important to monitoring activity, it lets us know who is around, and it encourages a positive social atmosphere. If you log in and out many times a day you do need to say "hi" or some other greeting each time. This is especially important for new members as they may be kicked by elders for chat inactivity, especially if they are constantly asking for donations without saying anything.. Also, please thank players when you have received donations. Just a simple "ty" is enough.
New Members. It is considered unBEARable to join the clan and request troops before donating to your fellow Bears. If offered troops you may accept, but saying 'Hi, give me some troops' is considered to be a kickable offence. (This is known as Tanys's Rule).
Please monitor chat activity. If you do not monitor chat activity then how can you see if anyone needs a donation? Pay attention to the chat on a regular basis. If an elder notices that you are not active in chat, yet you keep asking for donations, the elder may ask you to respond to them. If you do not respond you may be kicked for breaching this chat monitoring requirement of our clan. Again, this is especially important for new members. In other words, if you ask for a donation it would be a very good idea if you look at the chat immediately afterwards. It would be even better if you join in the chat and get to know people. We are friendly people, (as far as Vikings go.)
Please only donate archers or barbarians. Nothing else.
The only exceptions to this are:
1) If a player offers something else in the clan chat, and someone else takes up the offer. For example: "Anyone wants some ballons if I make them?"
2) If a player specifically asks for something else. For example, "Hey, can anyone donate me some level three wallbreakers?"
Please do not flood the clan chat with repeated offers or requests for non-standard troop donations though.
New Recruits. If anyone asks you what God we worship, you should answer "Thor". Thor is a mighty God and we rightfully fear that He may bring the sky crashing down upon our heads if we don't worship Him. If you don't give the right answer then we know you have not read our rules and you may be be kicked, or burnt at the stake. Depends on what sort of mood we are in at the time.
Please do not ask to be made into an Elder. Please don't even discuss it.
I will appoint Elders based on how helpful and friendly they are, as well as how many troops they donate every week. Please do not expect this to be a fast process, I would rather have just a few really good Elders who I have got to know and who are reliable, rather than a whole bunch of people who have been "bribed" to join by being given Elder status
Expect to donate up to 300 troops per week (at this stage). Once we get a feel for how the clan is shaping up, I may well increase this. (The previous clan I was in had a few people, myself included, who were donating about 200 per day, unfortunately there were only a few of us doing that and many people were completely inactive or just not donating enough, eventually the most active members began to leave because of this)
I do intend to enforce these rules, so please consider what I have said carefully before deciding to join. I don't like kicking people, but if some are going to ruin the enjoyment of others, then I will not hesitate to remove them.
These rules are not fixed, and may change in future. I would like this to be a democratic clan so if enough people feel these rules should be changed then they can be changed.
Activity
This clan is probably best suited for people who really enjoy playing most days but are not into the serious side of attaining high trophy counts. I usually spend an hour or so twice a day at this stage. I do appreciate that some people slow down as their levels increase. That's perfectly OK, so long as you at least try to meet the weekly donation target. The more you are active the more likely you are to reach the target. Some players have no difficulty in donating over 100 troops a day, so if you find it hard to donate only 100 troops a week then this clan is probably not suitable for you.
The reason I set a weekly donation target is because I want to attract people who like raiding. If you have a full clan castle most of the time then it can easily make the difference between success and failure. Likewise, having a full clan castle can often save you from defeat if you are attacked once you log off.
Lastly, just the thing about privacy. I am sure that as adult we can all agree about the need to protect personal privacy. Please do not ask anyone for their exact location (such as town or city), their age, their job or school, their friends, their gender, etc. Asking what country they are from is fine, but let's leave it at that.
Any feedback or suggestions about what I have said here will be welcome. I would like this clan to as efficient and as fun as possible and that means we need to talk to each other. Cheers!
Clan of the Cavebears

PS. In case you have read the book "Clan of the Cavebear" by Jean Auel, yes, that's where I got the idea for the clan name from.

New donation standards
This is in regard to donation level requirements for our Cavebear clan.
Donation Rules
1) The minimum donation requirement becomes 100. Anyone under 100 is automatically removed.
2) The safe minimum donation requirement becomes 200. Anyone reaching over 200 donations is safe from being removed (subject however to Guardian requests to move to Riverbears)
3) The lowest five donars are removed every week unless they have donated over 200.
Ok, now just think over what that means.
To give you an idea how this works, imagine the following examples occurring by the end of the week.
Example (a) There are 8 members under 100. All of them will be removed. No other members will be removed.
Example (b) There are no members under 100 but there are 8 members who are over 100 donations but under 200. The five lowest donors of these 8 members will be removed.
Example (c) All members are over 200 donations. No members will be removed (subject to Guardian requests)
All members may leave Cavebears and move to our sister clan, Riverbears, if they think they can not meet these requirement. Riverbears has no donation requirement at the moment.
All ex-cavebear members who are currently residing in Riverbears may apply to rejoin Cavebears once they feel they can meet these donation requirements, providing of course they had never been kicked for rule breaking.
Any Riverbear may apply to join Cavebears if they have been in the Riverbears clan for at least a week and have donated at least 200 troops within the week, subject to there being enough room in Cavebears.
All Cavebear members with a high donating record, who have informed us of irl circumstances affecting their ability to donate for a period, are automatically granted the right to return to Cavebears and to be restored to eldership if they were previously an elder in Cavebears
All ex-Cavebear members who moved into Riverbears for the purpose of promoting and moderating that clan are automatically granted the same rights as above. In addition they are granted the title of "River Hero" and are have the right to drink straight from the beer barrel.
If by some other means we become aware that a member of Cavebears has had some real life circumstances (unexpected personal circumstances) affect their ability to communicate with us and be active, then at the discretion of the Leader or the Guardian, that member shall not be removed.
Guardian requests. Consistently low donors in Cavebears may be asked at the discretion of the leader or the Guardian to move into Riverbears in order to make room for returning Cavebears, should there be inadequate room in the Cavebear clan or to make room for consistently high donating Riverbears who wish to move to Cavebears.. This request will override the provisions of donation rule (2) above.
Summary
You can take this to mean that Cavebears will be for high donating people, while Riverbears will be for lower donating people. People who can not donate enough and will not move to Riverbears, who can not simply understand that communication is a really good idea, will be removed. Painfully.

In this post I am going to put down some ideas for playing CoC. Hopefully they might be of some help to new players who want to join our clan.
Now, I must tell you I am still a noob at this game. I am only level 37 and TH (town hall) level 5. I am also aware that there are different ways to play this game, different strategies and different tactics. Perhaps the most important difference in play style comes from people who are seeking to gain as many trophies as possible as opposed to people who are just after loot so they can upgrade everything.
Personally I am one of the latter. I realized that trophies dont really mean anything except some form of respect among some players. I also realised that there was no way I would ever be able to compete for trophies with top players. After I learned than trophy count determines your matchmaking I decided to ignore trophy count and just concentrate on gaining loot. That meant I began to lose a lot of battles but gain a lot of loot at a very cost effective rate (lots of goblin based raids). As a result my trophy count dropped from 830 down to the present 556, but like I said, I dont really care at this stage.
So when you read my suggestions please remember that what I say is only based on my limited experience and is heavily biased towards the way I play the game. One way is not necessarily better than another and I am sure there are heaps of better ideas out there.
My clan mate , Magnifico, asked me to take a look at his village and offer some suggestions on its layout. This is more or less what I suggested to him:
Keep your defences tight. Protect your weapons, (cannons, archer towers, mortar) behind walls. Make your walls into a continuous rectangle so the enemy cant slip through a gap. (I know some people like to make gaps that lead to traps, but I must admit i dont do this). If you protect your weapons then they can keep firing while the enemy attacks your other structures, maximising the number of deaths you inflict. That way you have at least some chance of killing them all before they destroy you completely. if however you leave your weapons unprotected by walls, then they are much easier to destroy and without weapons you will most likely lose everything.
Following on from that, it then makes sense to leave structures of no value outside your walls. Things like barracks, army camps, builder huts. But still keep them tight against your walls, when the enemy attacks they still have to fight their way through these structures ti reach your walls. These structures then act like another wall, slowing the enemy down and giving your weapons more time to inflict damage on them.
Put simply there is no way you can protect everything of value. You never have enough walls. So it makes sense to me to cut your losses. Put as many weapons as you can inside your walls, if you have any space left over inside your walls then place your gold storages next (or if elixir is more important to you, the elixir storages).
Now place the rest of you mines and collectors around your walls just like the other structures as I described. Again the enemy will have to waste time fighting through these to get to your walls and the gold (or elixir) storages inside.
In my opinion always try to upgrade your weapons and walls first. This could save you from attacks by players of similiar level. But at the end of the day there is always going to be some big shark swimming around out there who will find you. Then it doesnt matter what you do. Higher level troops and more of them are always going to wipe you out.
I will add more later.

We welcome Jorg and Corugi into our clan. Now our numbers are 4.
A note to people who are looking to join us, it seems to take sometime to get members, there are so many clans out there all competing to attract players, so please do not join and expect an instant flood of donations. We are not all online at the same time. We are more interested in building up a clan of sensible and reliable people who are patient and are willing to wait the time it takes to get a clan up to speed. I reckon once we get 10 members things will become a lot easier. With ten members there will be more of us coming on line at different times and so the donations should flow more rapidly. If you are not a patient person then this clan is probably not for you, and I wish you well in your search for a clan more suited to your style of playing.

Donation vote
To all members of our clan. I would like to have regular votes on matters that affect us. Perhaps once a week, or once a month, something like that. Your views and opnions are critical to making this clan work effectively and for making it a desirable clan to not only join but also to stay with.
The first thing I would like us to vote on is the matter of troop donations. You will have read from the clan description that donations should be "only archers"
I am already beginning to rethink this. I am beginning to think that either archers or barbarians would be suitable donations. My reasoning goes like this:
Once you get archer towers and air defense you become essentially invulnerable to balloon attacks. Sure, a mass balloon attack by a high leveled player will work (done it myself to people on odd occasions), but so far balloon attacks seem fairly rare, probably because of the time and expense in building balloons plus the fact that many players rapidly achieve air defense as well as archer towers.
In addition I have noticed that archers tend to get wiped out very quickly because they tend to bunch up when coming out of a clan castle on attack.
So, let me know what you think. I will record your votes on this post in this thread.
The vote is this:
Should we allow barbarians to be donated as well as archers? Vote yes or no. Let have the vote run for a week from today. Feel free to express your thoughts and opinions as well in this thread as well as in our clan chat.
Voting Results

Some people define farming differently from what I have seen on the forums.
I try to make cost effective attacks. Sometimes I will attack exposed gold mines with 2 archers and then surrender once they adavance and get killed. I call this "sniping". I dont care, at this stage, how many trophies I lose. It seems easy enough to get them back up if it becomes an issue for me.
Other times I will do a mass goblin raid with just a couple of wallbreakers and a couple of giants to draw fire, if I think i will get enough loot to make it worthwhile.
Other times I will send an army of balloons in. Just for the lulz. I like to imagine the look of shock on another players face when he sees a host of balloons, and nothing else, sail in. ( I dont do this very often).

We now welcome Conorbear1 to our small but growing clan.
I am certainly impressed by the diversity and character of our clan members. Its great to have people with personality!
Our current trophy counts range from 960 to 20, and our levels range from 43 to 17. What is most important is that we simply dont care about any of that. Helping each other, donating and participating is what is important....and having a good time, of course.

We now welcome Migard and Bizron and Perry. Now we are 9.
Thanks for all the donations guys, it certainly make this a lot more fun to play.
