Actually, as an American, when my British friends talk about the "colonies", I just ask them how it feels to be the "oppressor". Then we laugh and have more beer. Of course, even more fun is if my Irish friends call the US "the colonies". I just point out to them how British they sound.

I don't think anyone meant anything personal.

It has become the forum culture that there is a higher demand for commotion than constructive discussions and most people here don't seem to have cultural sensitivity nor do they appreciate living in the more 'developed' part of the world.
