Another way of upgrading troops!

My idea is that you can upgrade troops skills to make them better. Things like attack speed, movement speed, possibly changing prefered targets could be considered skills. You would upgrade a troops skills by gaining skill points, which are different than gold, elixer, and dark elixer. You can gain them from 3 staring opponents in regular attacking and wars, donating a certain number of troops, or upgrading defenses. This would motivate players to donate more and participate in wars. I appreciate any and all feedback as to how to make this idea better or if it should be put into action.
