I know the OP has quit, I was just wondering why nobody asked him to do so quietly. That's the standard response on here.
I agree with some previous posters that making some of the more toxic members into GASPs (not you) was not really the best move to make while trying to make this forum a happier place. But maybe it was a trick to con them into posting responsibly, who knows.
Apart from that, personally, I'm not a fan of all this passive aggressive whining. People here want a better forum? Quit trolling the negative threads then. Post in the positive ones. Post interesting ones of your own. It really isn't that hard to ignore threads/posts you don't like. There's way to many people on here enjoying telling others what, what not, where, when, how or how not to post, trolling the forum with a holier than thou attitude.
A stupid thread ignored will fall off page 1 quickly. Start posting in it and it becomes troll food.
And the best way of doing that is ignoring the trolls and the flamers and only respond to the people worth responding to, the problem is they (flamers and trolls) are good at suckering you in, I guess we need a code word to say you are getting sucked in stop it man. We all have the power to stop it in it's tracks by just not responding to them. You can still keep a valid thread alive, just by reading and supporting the relevant comments.
I posted with the intent that the OP had. He stated that people should voice their opinions, but not in a negative way. Like not "valkries are OP nerf them pls ♥♥♥" and more like "I've used valkries and defended against them in multiple strategies. They seem a little overpowering and unless we can find a counter I have the stance that they should have a small nerf.". I think all opinions should be posted, but not in a toxic way.
There's a different from quitting and making a thread to say it and making a thread to say why. The reasons of why the game/forum is bad, ways to improve, what you want to achieve by posting you quit. Posting you quit and nothing else wastes forum space. Space that could be used for more constructive criticism.
I had a brief chat with one of the "toxic" GASPs, and he straight up told me that he was worried because of public opinion of him. They may even question SC's moves as well, I mean if people were outraged at you being promoted then would it be enjoyable? I don't know exactly what SC was going for, but I hope they were right.Quote:

Sadly, good threads DO turn into bad ones quickly, and once a flame war starts, it doesn't stop easily (meaning thread closed a lot of the time). I do agree that obvious troll threads insulting mods, SC, or stupid joke threads like "I thing GW needs TH6+ and give us over 9,000 gems "tks" shouldn't be replied to. To avoid this from going off topic, I'll make a comment on topic- this started as a good thread, too, with great intentions. But sadly threads like these can turn into bad threads quickly. Don't let it go bad on this one and go against what the OP's intentions were, please.Quote:

I hear what you're saying but in order to reach that level of maturity I think we'd have to institute an age limit here.
I'm not saying it's as bad as global chat :D but I've been around long enough to realize that you shouldn't put too high expectations on "the masses".
Something we can all do however, is focus on our own behavior. The best way to win the war on toxicity is by using silence (as people above have pointed out)
This. I think that it is partly SC fault, too.
Sc has proven in the past, that the squeeky wheel gets the oil.
complain about witches -> nerf
complain about SQ -> nerf
...
but the best was, which suits the situation now in some way:
complain about zapping -> SC said that it is part of the game -> complain goes on -> zapping removed
right now we have the similar situation with the Dec update, respectivly with TH sniping:
complain to bring sniping back -> SC said it will stay removed -> complain goes on -> ...TBD...
Though, this forum problem is for some part SC fault due to their inconsequent actions.
Then we have the usual trolls after every update, who only post to provoke.
and since the Dec update was a controversial one, the trolls have much room to do so. and over the time the negative mood is build up.
and because some anti-updaters still complain about the update and the pro-updaters still try to sugercoat the update, the trolls have still a lot of possibilities.
even though a lot of real-concern-threads gets trolled and the OP feels twited.
but there are some ways to get back the "normal forum", even if i think none of them will happen:
1) SC roll back the Dec update/give at least sniping back -> wont happen
2) trolls stop trolling -> wont happen due to the trolls nature
3) anti-updaters stop complaining to prevent trolls from (above-average) trolling -> wont happen due to SCs inconsequent actions in the past (say one thing but do the opposite)
BTT:
its bad that holps leave the forum, his post often make me smile :)
but other than him, i dont think its our (the communitys fault) all alone, but it is partly SCs fault to.
like fette said: fix the game, than the forum will be fixed :p
If that's the case, I guess all of us older adults are wasting our time...and I've met a ton these past two+ years. I thought the slower, thoughtful pace of CoC encouraged all ages to play? I think older folks are far more likely to stick with it over time too, as well as spend money.
