Can't activate layout

I've been playing around with the new update, creating a new layout but I cannot activate it.

I have ensured that all my essential items are placed on the farm
There is nothing left in tabs except on the decoration tab.
The red numbers indicating essential items needed to be placed have dissapeared.
When you save the layout and come back to the main menu my original layout is still showing as active.
There is no red exclamation on the second, new layout indicating that there are no essential items left to place.
I select the new, second layout (inactive) and the activation button is yellow enabling me to press it.
However, when I do, nothing happens. My original layout remains active instead of swapping to the new layout.

No matter what I do I can't get my new layout, I've spend hours on, to become active.

i asked help in game and got told the standard "are all your essential items placed?" response and when I confirmed they were, I've heard nothing.

Ive tried closing all my apps, coming in and out of the game, waited to see if the recent maintenance would fix it, I've moved things around in the new layout, I've put essential items in and back out of storage. I'm stumped. Any ideas?

I messaged support and it was suggested that if all essentials were placed, then it was possible I had a overlapping decoration that hadn't highlighted red, but still could not be accepted.
I trawled through, removing and replacing paths first and discovered the culprit. A path peice had managed to place itself under a nectar bush right by the house.
There was no indication anything was wrong except the fact that I could not activate my layout. - Which had me frustrated for days!
Once found, I deleted the rogue path peice and my new layout is now all go :)

Ahh ok, I will double check everything! Thanks for the response.

It worked! I found two of my plants overlapping, but not red, just like you said. I moved them apart and was able to activate the layout. Fixed! Thank you for your suggestion.

I am having this same problem but it's my original (unedited) layout that I can't get back to. I have checked as described previously but I don't see anything overlapping. I activated my new layout, took a quick look and tried to switch back and it won't go. Suggestions? Thanks!

Same problem here I switched over to my new layout and when I tried to go back to my original layout it won't switch back.😕😕😕

It is to do with items overlapping. If they overlap you won't be able to set it as active. sometimes it's not as obvious as an item showing up as red. I had a piece of fence that had gone into a hedge - it wasn't red but as soon as I started moving things ( literally was moving everything) I found it and was then able to save it as active again

Destroying both layouts trying to find the problem. Especially frustrating because I made no changes to the original working layout before trying to switch back. Everything should have stayed in the same spot.

So, same problem as original posted here, and i cant find anything wrong to fix.
What can I do

I had to click the button to remove all decorations and then put them all back again one at a time.
