I having the same issue on my android device. I have pushed the "Play Now" button, I have downloaded game, I have played two training levels, I have sent a ticket to support (they said to come here).
Enough already. Just pull the ad. If that requires maintence shutdown, so be it.
If you open settings and instantly exit, the red exclamation mark will re-appear after you come back from a raid, or log back on.
To get rid of it once and for all, you will need to open settings and click the "Play Now!" button on the ad. This will direct you to the App Store/Google Play. Just close it and go back to CoC. It should be gone forever.
Worked on 2 android devices and 1 IOS device here too.
RCA tablet. Model No. RCT6203W46. Android. 4.4.2
If you leave more details about the devices and versions of IOS they are running it could help narrow down this issue.
I have just removed the exclamation mark on a iPad mini running iOS v8.3 by clicking the Play now button, pressing the home button once in the App Store and then force closing CoC (double tap the home button, swipe CoC upwards).
I had previously removed it from an iPhone 4 (iOS v7.1.2) by doing the same, but as I didn't know how to force close apps at that time I just waited 5 mins to let CoC time out.
