Okay so I will be maxed out on TH7 in about 4 days and im really skeptical about upgrading to tell you the truth im really worried the the loot penalties will bring me down and also i think that my normal giant healer won't work anymore so please fill me in thanks :)
I had the same fears when graduating from town hall 7. But fear not, loot is still very good at hall 8. Just lift your trophies about 100-200 more then you are now and you should be fine.
Healer/Giant Combos still work very well if you pick your targets wisely [as you would at the moment anyway with such a combo]
Lv 5 giants are a huge jump from 4 too which really help.
A maxed TH 7 should be fine in the deep depths of TH 8. Just make sure you get on those upgrades quick, so you can attack as well as you can defend. The Giant Healer combo works if you have it maxed, and don't fall for traps some of these guys have set up.

I would recommend moving away from the healer giant strategy, it takes far too much time and will rule out some high loot targets.
Don't worry about the loot. It only really disadvantages you a lot if you want to hit TH6s or TH9s like you did in TH7. My attack log has plenty of good loot.
Honestly its not as bad as everyone says.
I think the loot is actually BETTER at TH 8 than at TH 7. Just stay in the 1,300-1,500 zone, and you'll hit amazing loot. :)

I am TH8, used 18 giants, 2 hearlers and archers to do the collection before, no problem at all.
I found out, 1600-1800 range is much better because those farming high Lv players all crowd at 1400-1600.
Now I only use archers and barbarians at > 2000 trophies.

The loot is good for th8. Get your level 5 barch as soon as possible.
Barch is where it's at. I wish I started barching at TH7. Bring some wb's and spells (as retainers) to gut the cores. Don't use your wb's as much as possible. With lvl 5 barbs and arches, you can 50% a lot of TH9's (you'll be surprised).
My comp for farming at TH8 was 92 barb 92 archers 8 wb, rage to get to the core.
