Not really a great way to answer "this will work 100% of the time without fail" b/c different base designs, troop levels, attacker's skills, etc...but my answer, with a gun to my head, would be mass hogs. 40 lvl 4 pigs, 5 lvl 5 cc pigs, poison x2 for CC troops, profit.
There is no best attack, but most we either go mass dragons or hogs. Don't go 45 hogs, I prefer closer to 43. 45 means you can't utilize corner archers for stupid buildings and can't path them back inside on clean up, and sometimes bad bases have outside giant bombs that will wreck you on clean up. For this reason I take a wizard and three goblins and three archers with my th8 hog runs.
^ True, if corner buildings archers are going to be a necessity as the pigs tend to get grouped by the end. but if the base is in tight, I have yet to fail with 45 hogs on my mini account.
Not arguing with you dude, the difference between 43 and 45 hogs is nil. Realistically, anything over 35 is overkill, it's just personal flavor after that.
THIS...
I've seen several misses with all hogs. You DO often want a few, minimal, clean up troops involved, especially if the base has corner buildings.
Ehh, I don't think 35 hogs is enough. 5-8 more hogs is fairly significant.
Mass hogs is the clear number 1 imo. If the base is setup to defend mass hogs as a priority, a couple other options:
GoHo (4 Eq, 2 Heal. or 3 Heal 2 Poison)
Mass drags with loons in cc (2 light, 1 rage, 1 eq)
GoVaLo/Ho (4 Eq, 2 Heal typically - with 4-8 backend hogs/loons)
GoWiPe (you'll want to pocket 4+ wizards, or else bring backend hogs/loons)
Th8 has a lot of variation people often dont consider. These are all 3 star strategies, just choose the right one for the right situation.
And what bases would those be?
On a more serious note, I agree with your post.
I will say, however, mass drags with EQ Zap is often overrated and recommended too much when mass drags are in order. Heal is way underrated with mass drags. I used to scoff 3 heal with 11 drags. But time and time again, certain clan mates prove me wrong
Basically a TH8 anti 3 star base. They are out there. They have multiple double gb locations and often all their spring traps are set up very well in between defenses on the outer perimeter area. Even a center tesla farm. Not saying you cant get around these with hogs, but once they start making their base this way it opens them up for other attack styles
And I agree with the other part of your post - people need to do their own thing. I emphasize this to my clanmates. If they have an idea they can run it by me beforehand, but often I will let them try what they want and then give them guidance afterwards. Free will and stuff. I like to think i have a very good eye for if something will work out of not, but I love being shown otherwise by my clanmates :)
The difference in hog strength is near nil, but there's a HUGE difference in recoverabilitybetween mine and yours. Yours can get beaten with outside giant bombs, or if you spread your two poisons on the dragons just too much trying to get an exposed skeleton trap and barely miss killing the dragon when he gets back in.. I can't think of any cases where I'd want the extra two hogs but I can think of lots of ways a smart player can salvage a raid with the extra ten spaces I mentioned. Forcing the hog split on clean up is huge.
Like Jake from Onehive said every th 8 base can be Goho.
Exactly why TH8's with max defenses should be doing everything they can to defend the hog attack while still remaining strong against air - tesla farms, double gb locations, centered clan castle, well placed spring traps INSIDE the base, airdefenses in a triangle within range of one another preferrably (defending air while maintaining a good anti hog base is going to be the hardest part)
In my mind, the hardest part about an anti 3* TH8 war base is just pulling the CC. Once you get by that, the rest of the base is often fairly easy, as point DPS is often very low (the base is so spread out) and surgical often works around DGB anyways. Further, if you are stuck on 1 or 2 finger drop, it's often easy to pop DGBs one at a time as well...
What can I say? I'm a hog guy all the way at TH8...
Funny you say this..that's EXACTLY how I feel about many "anti 3*" bases.
Per further thought, I'm not even sure I can appropriately define what an anti TH8 3* war base is in the first place...
I didnt even upgrade my drags until I was max TH9. I hogged through TH7/8/and 9. I'm still using them in successful 3 star raids at TH10 too.
If a TH8 attacker is that skilled with hogs, good for them, they deserve the 3 stars. That wasn't the point I was trying to make. A hugeee majority of TH8 attackers are spammers/noobs. If we're talking about hardcore warring TH8's, I don't know what kind of base you expect to defend?? I will see if I can share one of our clans anti 3 th8 bases with you guys. You're right about the cc pull, it is the difference maker most of the time.
And obviously the term 'anti 3' is different between TH8 and 9... the offensive gap between the two th levels is astronomical...
Anti 3 doesn't fit at th8 at all. It refers to a type of th9 base that defends against the leading th9 three star strategies, but this day with the balance changes they're spread enough to be vulnerable to conventional two star attacks with backend troops. At th8,that means the base is falling to the two most common th8 attacks so anti 3 th8 makes no sense. What you mean to say is anti hog.
