Do our minds play a decieving role in Clash Of Clans?

Well, let me explain... When you're searching for a base to battle, you may be looking for trophies, resources, or both. You may be hunting for an outside of the walls town hall. You may be into a good amount of resources... Whatever you're looking for, it can be extremely hard for new players, and even experienced players... Just because of one thing... Intimidation. Our minds fear intimidation in Clash Of Clans... Now, why would this make our minds decieving? Well, let's find out.

Our minds are wonderful things. Sometimes they can be very decieving, though. A base that has really good resources, you would probably go for it, right? Oh, no. I doubt many would. Hm, I may have left out a part... Oh, this base has all level 6 walls. Town hall 7... Maxed defenses... You would say,"Eh, cannons with 2 rings...Woah! A green Archer Tower!" Yes, color can decieve us in Clash Of Clans. Especially walls. You may even be able to 50% this base, but your mind says no. After reading this, slow down when you're looking for a base. Use that 30 seconds to truly judge the base. You are capable of more you know. We are all more powerful in this game then we think we are.

It's nice to read something in here that's not asking "should I upgrade to TH whatever?" or "how's my base?" or "what should I upgrade next?"

I usually take the full 30 seconds to make sure I don't miss anything before raiding, or if I'm on the fence, I often take more than 30 seconds and let the 3 minute counter start first.

In case some people don't know, you can let the 30 seconds end and even after the 3 minute raid counter begins, if you don't drop any troops you can end the battle at ANY TIME within those 3 minutes and it will not count as a loss. I do this quite frequently too when the 30 seconds was not enough time for me to decide whether I wanted to raid the base and then I finally decided to skip because I was not confident I'd get what I was after, or I wasted too much time deciding lol.

The top intimidating factors to me are loaded xbows, loaded inferno towers, and maxed mortars. Not so much walls (unless full skull walls or higher). Oh and well placed, high level ADs as well. Those can suck if you raid with an army heavily dependent on air troops like healers or dragons.

When I play the game as soon as i see some lv 8 walls I go OH HELL NOOOO even though my troop are a high lv like lv5 and dragons lv2 and peekas lv 1

Exactly... My point proven.

I actually did a guide on intimidating, it's linked in my signature, and one of the main points of the guide is that you don't need to actually be strong, just look the part. One of the best things to do is go for upgrades with big visual changes, because even though they may only add six DPS people act like you added sixty. The trick is to push your limits every once in a while to see what your capable of and if you fail, it's only one raid.

Yup, I'm glad you understand.

I, on the other hand, like to give just the opposite image of my base. Some of you know my vaults and think, it is inferior to other designs. That plays nicely in my favor as people attack it, thinking how easy it is as many guides specifically instruct to attack vaults. I say, go right ahead ;) More experienced attackers do notice the high level splashers right away and do the math on HTK of those bad boys, 1.

When I attack, I do the math on how long my units survive. Sure, miscalculations happen and unit AI can be unpredictable so it's not always a sure win.

Intimidating is good, but when someone calls your bluff... :rolleyes: On looting, it's enough to know the lifespan of goblins against any level tower ;)

Upgrades with big visuals are very intimidating. For example I am somewhat mid-way through TH 8 (not quite) and am getting one of my cannons to the level it turns gold. I want to do this because it throws people off. I'll catch my other cannons up but even if I had all lvl 9 cannon and archer towers, I know having 5 lvl 10 cannons will make people click next more than 5 lvl 10 archer towers because of the small visual change for the archer tower.

Personally I'm still gun shy of the Inferno tower.

However, I have experienced the feeling lately of wanting some poorer raiders to hit my base. I feel my design is pretty strong but once I get enough resources I get hit by a quality raider who brings 3-4 spells and all of his clans troops. Tricking people into attack is also a good tatic

One big thing would be not having dotted walls, like pink gold pink gold pink gold. Box in areas of pink and do the rest in gold. If you drop wallbreakers, they hit the wall with the lowest health and if it's dotted then it's like the whole base is gold.

the difference between one, two and three ringed cannons is quite a bit, but fully gold looks solid and people are less likely to attack, so you're right :)

Whilst the inferno tower may look intimidating, it's easily overwhelmed. It only targets one thing at a time after all :p

I agree. When I did my guide I bit the bullet and tried one with my level eight healer giant combo and had no problem. They are well suited for taking out tanks, but it can't live through most other types of attacks. Just find a premie and try your luck.

Personally I find wizard towers to be something that usually makes me skip. The reason is if levelled and put in certain places, unless destroyed your goblins will be killed in one shot. Mortars are not as scary but ate still a major factor. And I always end up looking at archer towers and find bases with level 9+ archer towers are usually nicely levelled. Xbows are mostly just like any other defence and I don't find them very scary unless level 3+. Th10's usually don't have good loot, although in the rare case they do it all depends on base level, placement and inferno tower placement especially.

Yeah. Air defenses won't stop me though. I'm not intimidated by them. Mainly because I use ground troops!

With ADs, it's quite often extreme ends. Either they are done properly or almost completely ignored. When I'm blooning, I just really like sending a friendly "fix your ADs" message by 100% the place with few bloons :cool: A good air defence goes often hand in hand with good ground defence, so if the Ads are well placed and upgraded, often the other stuff is, too.Having even a single well upgraded AD in the middle is an almost automatic skip when farming with bloons. Using spells on farming is pretty much out of the question for me :)

Using either a really easy looking or overly complex base are also good attack repellants. Copying a well known base and then having it poorly upgraded is a big welcome sign for many, I think.

A lot of it is math. TH 5 and 6 troops are all same stared. A 3* WB can take out dark grey walls one hit. Gold two hits. Purple two to three hits. If a Place is all segmented your hooped less your all WBing army

Next defenses. 3* Giants with a healer or two can take 3 defenses tops before they fall. Now what are the chances there is an over lap of 3? About 95% or greater so you'll loose giants with healers...

Mortars one hit all 3* troops minus giants and mages.

Air defense takes out healer in about 15 seconds.

FYI only just made it TH7. What does all my rambling mean yes it takes time to evaluate a base but that's why you get the time. The leave before sending out troops is a new one for me. Thank you for the tip.

high walls are intimidating at any stage in a clasher's career. this is for good reason. with any good base whether it be a vault pokeball pingfao ect. strong walls means the core will take much longer to breach while splash rains from the other side; this is assuming they have less than 8-10 wallbreakers, at which point they run out before the core

Yup, those walls play a huge roll in defense.

wallbreakers actually dont preference the level of one wall over another only how much the wall has been damaged (of course after calculations of distance and building protection)

There was a thread that asked what was the main reason besides loot to skip a base, and last I checked the top reason was a good base design followed closely by high level walls and mortars.
I think the main reason we avoid high level walls is that it tends to mean that the other defenses are strong as well, since we as humans like to have a main cause for something, we blame the strength on the walls rather than the defenses or the design of the base. This also applies to inferno towers and Xbows as they tend to be found in stronger bases (assuming it's not a premie) so we associate the strength of the base as a whole with these few structures, when in reality they're not that bad.

Haha I trained myself to distinguish level 9&10 arch towers and now I'm a lot more scared of level 10 arch towers the the cannons

My farming army can destroy 99% of th7 bases in the 1300-1400 range. I've beaten quite a few maxed out th7's too but those bases very rare at that range.

The first thing I think about is which side the gold storages are on and how to lure the cc troops.

I've been looking at the trophy swap count. If it looks like I'll win a lot of trophies I move on, I figure the game has calculated my chances of winning. I've found it's not the most accurate predictor. There have been battles I've been smoked in and battles I've done well in. Sometimes I feel like the game set me up with a low trophy win calculation, meaning I have a good chance to win and then I get smoked.
