What do you do when you build a new Townhall, do you use all of your builders or do you just use 4/5 and start on the new level of walls?
I always keep one builder free for wall building, and I've always assumed everyone else did as well.

Thats what I usually do or you can use all 5 and save everything until the upgrade is done.
I go with all of them on something since the first upgrades tend to be short so you aren't waiting long to use up your gold.
Always 5/5 building. Saving one for walls makes you lose 20% of your building speed, I just try to have a builder getting free every 1-2 days to dump gold.

I never realised that teslas had so many levels at th7 (3 I think) so they were upgrading and were my last defences to max at th7, but they ran into my first day at th8 :(. I kept the 3 I had left occupied though, doing mortar, using all my two gold storages to get new walls, lab upgrade and de drill. Then the next day I forgot what I did :P.
I just max out my storages between upgrades and try to make a builder free up every day. Although while my storages are maxed I take my time remaining as "relaxation" time and donate troops and stop raiding.
I would not advise to keep a builder for just upgrading the walls. I am at TH8 now, I have 5 builders (yes I bought gems to by the 5th and i think that is the smartest investment you can make in this game with your gems) and still they are not enough, granted, I have a lot og catch up to do after my premature TH upgrades.
What I do is I assign 3 builders for upgrading my defenses (yes I know that leaves my base vulnerable but as I said I have a lot of catch up to do). The other two I use to upgrade the rest (barracks, king, and resources).
I upgrade the walls whenever a builder is freed up using the excess gold that I have after starting a new upgrade. Also, as someone said, it is a good idea to plan so that you have a builder freed up every day.
Don't do that, if you farm a lot, you will max your walls before maxing your buildings
Not sure if you were talking to me, but if you were, I upgrade wall only with the excess gold, i.e. once I have decided which defense I will upgrade (keeping it at around 3 upgrades at same time) I use the remaining gold for upgrading wall. This way I don't have any gold for others who may raid me.Quote:

I try keep all my 5 builders busy at all times. I only upgrade walls between upgrades:
Tower X finishes --> Upgrade some walls --> Upgrade Tower Y
Up till TH6, three is plenty of builders... after I went to TH7, I felt that there were too many upgrades for just three builders.
on my Main, I earned the 4th and shelled out to get the 5th..I kept them all busy most of the time, if they were free it was for a few hours -up to a day usually- while something else was close to finishing. I would otherwise spill the extra into walls and then upgrade. my schedule allowed me to get enough raiding for an every other day or two upgrade cycle..
Once I got to TH8 the upgrade times were very long, and the price of walls was much higher. so I decided to leave one free for a while.. that lead to two or three (with my summer sched..) so now I have an upgrade plan that is WAY lax, and my builders get to sleep the summer away. it sucks somewhat, but Im not bent outta shape over it. they will be back to work when I can raid like madd again.
This is all to say, there is no rush to max upgrade, its not a race. (as I used to treat it) If a builder is sleeping, its OK. he will be busy once I have the time to fill my storages in excess.

No it doesn't really work out like that. I maxed level 8 walls long before all of my defenses and other buildings were maxed at TH8, and ended up going to TH9 with a few level 7 ATs, all level 4 ADs, level 8/9 cannons and low level elixir collectors. As long as you stagger builder finishing times and have full or nearly full storages whenever each one finishes, you will complete level 8 walls before you max your defenses.Quote:

Im th8 with mostly all lvl 6 walls just few lvl 7 but nothing lower, which in my opinion is enough till I max my defenses. It still takes 2 lvl 5 wall breakers to get through with lvl 6 walls and once I have fewer upgrades to do and they take longer then ill save a builder to get lvl 7 walls and eventually lvl 8 walls
Well it seems the general consensus is go 5/5, I guess I'll go with that at th8. I hate leaving that much gold in storage, but I guess with the 200,000ish cap, anything over 1million is safe. And 200k is only 1 quick raid.

Use all five builders on buildings.
I have 4 builders, and when I get to a new town hall, I go with clan castle, new walls upgraded to level 6, and new buildings. Then when new buildings are done, lab and spell factory. You shouldn't waste a builder on walls when you start your town hall, you need all new buildings to be in level with old buildings. For example, new mortar on town hall 7 should be level 4 before I upgrade any more defenses.
