Calling someone a term that fits, is not calling them a name. and no, I dont see the hypocrisy in that. Its using an appropriate term, that has meaning, that is applicable. Calling someone who whines a whiner is no different than calling someone who sings a singer. Yet, calling someone a singer is NOT insulting. So calling anyone any name is not insulting. Calling someone an idiot is subjective. Calling someone a whiner who is whining is NOT calling them a name. Calling someone who is so loyal to a game that they refuse to see the issues a fanboy, is NOT calling them a name.
Yes, people have gotten infractions for the use of the term fanboy. I really think this forum should have a list of the words THEY deem toxic.Because in the real world, the non-pc safe space world, fanboy would not be toxic. Its very vanilla.
