Things that annoy me with Hay Day

First a caveat; I like this game. It's easy entertainment and passes time. But certain things annoy me and I feel a need to ventilate. Please add to the list if you feel the need too. :)

- the uneven distribution of materials. I need land deeds but only get markers and mallets. Other need mallets and have oodles of land deeds. It's like the game knows what you need and deny you these pieces to force you in to using diamonds.

- the surplus of eggs, bacon and eggs & bacon in the news paper. Do we really need to continue produce and harvest this if there is such a surplus?

- if I need a certain item for the boat or to expand the game, again, seems to know this and it will not be for sale in my edition of the news paper. For example, the plain white sweater is always on sale in my news paper. But now when the boat requires it there is not a single sweater on sale...

- the gift cards. Why aren't they automatically sent out? Why only five a day? I revived an entire farm, over 30 trees and bushes, but didn't get a single gift card. Probably the owner never sent the cards which makes me reluctant to help out again.

- vouchers... Wy do I have 15 green vouchers and not a single blue, purple or gold? I understand that some are more rare than others but this is ridiculous!

- the wheel of fortune jumps over the more desirable items! Today it stopped on the golden ticket and then suddenly jumped one extra slot only to land on an apple. Gee, thanks!

- the wheel of fortune again. The idea of a luck based game is that you have an equal opportunity to win every item. So how come I've won wheat about 20 times but only once the spin again and not once the golden ticket despite playing the wheel every day?

thats certainly quite a handful of "complaints" you have there! i absolutely agree with everything you just said though, and not forgetting stuff like lack of diamond confirmation and rants about getting lousy and irrelevant items from the postman mystery packages etc etc. some of what you wrote could certainly go under the requests and suggestions section BUT the bottomline is - i've stopped having expectations about how the game "should be" and accepted that some things will perhaps not gonna have any changes to my liking. i've started to just enjoy the game and sometimes try to have a workaround ie. trading when i get too little/too many of certain items. all in all, yes, if you're the impatient sort then use diamonds to obtain them ie. vouchers, expansion items. or just be patient and wait. this game requires lots of patience anyway so i've accepted this fact.

Yes, I agree with you. Patience is needed when playing. I guess my main annoyance is the way the game developers push us towards buying diamonds (I've not bought ant diamonds and never will). Many aspects of the game seem to be luck based but are infact controlled buy the game code. Hence for example the wheel of fortune skipping the more desirable objects. All to make us buy diamonds which I find a bit unfair and rather unethical.

I must admit that I too have noticed that if I'm collecting items for my boat, they are nowhere to be found in the paper. I need roasted tomatoes, something I was seeing all the time, but now they are invisible! Happens too many times to be a sheer coincidence. But I love Hay Day, warts and all, as the saying goes!!

This has got to be true. A new boat came in yesterday evening. I am only 3 boats away from Capt 3. I needed carrot juice and ice cream and milk i think. I had a bit of carrot juice and lots of milk. And only one ice cream. So i filled the milk crates, one of the carrot juice crates and asked for help on 2 carrot juice and one ice cream. Before opening the boat i had scoured the newspaper and my neighbours for carrot juice and not one was to be found. Days before this i had seen ice cream as common as bacon. So i figured ice cream would be easy. I only needed four!! Well HA!! lol. Now carrot juice is a dime a dozen since those crates are filled and not one ice cream is to be found anywhere. And i don't have an ice cream machine. could kick myself for not having bought one before now. Smh. I swear the game knows!!:rolleyes:

i'm not sure if i agree everything is controlled and not by sheer luck. there were countless times i did get things like gold vouchers, necklaces or expansion items off the wheel, EXCEPT for the bike which i cannot get no matter how many times i tried. super jealous of some of the level 14 players who got 3 to 4 bikes at their farms! lol. also regarding diamonds, yes they do hope you'll buy but there are several ways to get them and i'm sure you know that already. for myself i usually get them via the mystery boxes or from the mine (i get tom to fetch shovels) so i've never spent money on diamonds too and never will. so once again if you have the patience, you'll be able to get diamonds from the game without spending a single cent. whatever it is, what i'm happy and grateful is that the game allows you to ACTUALLY progress without spending any money, and it rewards you with a diamond + xp points when you watch the ad trailers. many apps do not. they just flash an ad at random whether you like it or not, and that is abrupt and annoying. sometimes you just have to think about the good!

Now that I no longer need roasted tomatoes (having filled my crates for those a little while ago), I just spotted four ads for them and a number of them for sell at other shops. Can't be coincidence surely!?
However -- rubbing my hands with glee -- I have found a bolt, a screw (desperate for them), and land deeds, markers and other good stuff all tucked in various bacon and egg ads. I always hunt through them as I find lots of treasures in those shops selling b&e.

I have a butt ton of blue vouchers. It's the GREEN ones I have a hard time finding!

I don't think it's possible to control code to force certain outcomes on HayDay, timing wise yes but not for things like the boats and lack of items. (Yes that happens to me too and on the truck orders too).

I've gotten just about everything from the WoF including gold vouchers. Have never hit the jackpot though:( what I hate isi keep getting girl bikes. I want a boy bike!! The pennyfarthing one would be nice too....

I agree I get only blue and green tickets, no lands deeds for weeks, there is people who are levels below me and have more land cleared, I can't get any pets and am running out of room for stuff. Feels like I'm not getting anywhere am starting to lose interest.

If ppl just advertise the rare things they have, then they will sell their items faster....
I NEVER pick the egg sales....the chances of getting something good arent great, and I usually only have enough time to look at the non-egg items before the paper refreshes...

If I advertise that I am selling chocolate cake, even if I have cakes in 8 slots, it will sell out in seconds, my ad will be gone, and no more people will come to my shop.

If I advertise eggs, my ad can be in the paper for minutes, possibly half an hour or longer, and I can sell all kinds of stuff the whole time.

Even with eggs, they'll eventually gone before the ads expire :(
now it's hard to choose what's the right item for dummies :(
though it's good to have my items bought, but i don't want to wait next ten minutes not selling anything because off no ads :confused:

The thing that annoys me the most is that there never any boats asking for those darn B&Es - in 6 months I've had maybe 4? Or 5 boats asking for them - and it was a small quantity (as opposed to 15 sugars!!)
Wouldn't it also reduce the amount in the paper if there was more demand for them? Just a thought.

Another thing that annoys me: I added loads of surplus building materials to my shop. I sold them one by one rather than a stack of ten. The idea being that you can buy one or two and leave the rest for someone else, a low lvl player perhaps. And one of my "friends" swoops in, buys ALL of the goodies and when I check it's a really, really high lvl player with all possible expansions and massive barns and silo... Pure greed. :( "Unfriended".

I don't get this. I'm a high level player but I'm always expanding. If I see the materials I need, I'm going to swoop them up like a kid in a candy store. How does that make me greedy?

because you dont need the materials as much as a low level player does, i believe thats what the poster is trying to say. but of course once the items are up on the shop you really have no control over who buys them.

That's my point. What makes their needs higher than mine? If it's in the shop and if I need those items, I'm going to buy them. It doesn't matter if ur a lower level player or a higher level player. A need is a need. I'm not buying it to trade. It's for my own use so why isn't it ok?

Completely agree with you, Haystacker. If it's up for sale, and you want/need that item, then buy it. I have read lots of threads on this issue so I know the arguments for and against - some people use the last box for private trades but not everyone is aware of this and they buy an item intended for trade. Some people get annoyed when a follower "raids" their stall and leaves nothing for their friends...

But my opinion, for what it's worth, if its up for sale then it's first come, first served. Who is to say that someone is more in need of an item than someone else. But it's a contentious issue this one, judging by the number of threads about it, and I'm sure not everyone will agree with me.

Don't worry Ivor, I agree with u :D. Well said! I understand some people want to leave stuff for "others" but are they even available to purchase those items given the differences in time zones? Not everyone are playing at the same time. If I happen to see items I need in a shop, I'm going to jump on it. I'm sure others who need those goodies will do the same. Like u said, first come first serve. U snooze, u lose. That's the way this game is.

But you completely missed my point.
I'm talking about BUYING.

It's not about the reasons you do it, it's about the things that annoy me about hay day ... At least that was what i saw in the title of this thread.

I don't really buy anything off the egg sellers, and I never will.
My sales go quick, and I prefer it that way... I don't have time to sit there and sell for more than a couple of minutes, and I just don't advertise until im filling the last slot.

Just wanted to point out that the more space you add to your barn, the more materials you need to expand again. I just used 31 of each to expand my barn to 825. And it took forever to get the bolts! I assume that people with higher space have to come up with a crazy amount of materials. So they are needed either way.

You're right, Ivor...people tend to get upset about this topic, but i completely agree with you. There is very rarely more than about 200 people on the hay day side of the forums at any one time, (excluding updates). Just for the sake of fairness let's say there are 1000 people lurking...reading the forums but not joining in. That isn't even a drop in the bucket of how many people actually play hay day, so not very many players are aware of the etiquette that is so widely discussed here. They are blissfully unaware...playing their games and feeling that little rush every time they come across a stall full of good stuff and they get every bit of it!

I agree haystacker. And the time zone thing, for some reason:rolleyes:, never crossed my mind. People put stuff up for sale in their shops thinking...oh, my neighbor's are gonna love this!...but there are going to be friends in other time zones that never ever see anything for sale in your shop. You snooze you lose...literally. Hahaha. :D

i have no issue with this but i think what the poster was trying to say was, the high level players can just stop expanding for a while and not lose much since they already have so much money and stuff. but the low level ones really have an urgent need to expand because they're trying to level up. but to me, the use of roadside shop is not an effective way to help the lower level players. if you dont buy it, someone else will, simple as that. you want to help the lower level players, go approach them, sell them all you have at 1 coin or make other arrangements. be charitable for all you want but dont use the roadside shop as a means to help them because it does not work.

I agree with you and I know you're agreeing with me...I'm SO not trying to be flamey here, so i apologize if it comes out that way, but it seems like an odd thing to expect higher level players to hold off on their game to let lower level players get ahead. Seems contradictory to why we play games in the first place. But I know what you are saying. I think that the small amount of us on the forum have a different perspective on hay day than the majority who actually play it.

There are times that I get annoyed, but honestly, there is nothing that really bugs me about this game. I'm grateful that I have this well-produced entertainment that has not cost me a penny. In fact, I would be willing to pay Hay Day (SuperCell) a modest sum of cash. I don't even want diamonds in return, because for me, I would prefer to make all my progress based on effort/skill, as opposed to converting my real-life assets into an accelerator for the game - but that's just me. If they ever create a "donate" $10 or $20 bucks to Hay Day option, I would do it just for the amount of fun this game has given me.

I suppose the number of bronze/silver fish is driving me nutty, but it makes the gold ones that much more memorable when you actually get them. I'm in it for the long haul, and I know that eventually I will get to every milestone - it just takes time and patience.

As for high level players swooping in. I'm level 67 and I continue to expand my barn/silo. I'm at about 1600 for both and could use more space. So I will buy what I need when I see it. There is etiquette but at the end of the day, the game does not enforce it, so it just boils down to playing style. The only way to reliabley help someone is to setup a real-time sale (e.g., text message the person and have them waiting in the stall to buy - even then, it's possible for another friend or follower to intercept). I help IRL friends that way. The other way to help is to payback someone who has helped you with a dairy/sugar boat item. I keep track and return the favor when my dairy/sugar supplies are good.

Is this factual? There are only five gift cards sent per day no matter how many you revive? If that is so I will definitely be tuning down my helping. I just keep going in hopes of getting that cool fountain.

which is why i wont make jewelry from scratch. its just more fun to get tom to fetch or grab from the shops whenever they're available. you also forgot the diamonds that go into the rings. those priceless diamonds!! i think the only consolation of making jewelry is you get the mastery and achievements for the jeweler and smelters. how exciting right!! *rubs hands with glee*

If you really felt that way you could buy $20 worth of diamonds and use it to speed up trees and other items and would quickly go through them. Then get all the items and sell them for 1 coin each in your shop.

Also you could buy Tom and have him fetch shovels and just sell them in your shop for 1 coin instead of using them. This way you would not benefit from the diamonds and help your neighbors.
